This video is soooo retarded. They are putting christmas lights on bridges. If that is their goal, I imagine they meet their goal every christmas. The object of putting lights up is to make things look pretty, and be festive. It is just an exaggeration to say that it is part of a big scheme to make a feel good environment.
I'm not sure if a "good feeling" is worth half a giga watt of energy per hour. We know, where the energy comes from and what has been done to get it. Wasting it for such thing is a bit cynical. Don't you think so?
Actually Architecture is about designing with efficiency to accommodate all needs of its users in such a way to inspire awe to everyone. Having beauty in Architecture means more to your country than many people can realize. If everywhere you went, you had the same old block building to walk into, you'd feel less of a sense that you're here to do something, to make a difference. Beautiful Architecture inspires people to strive for something, whatever their passion might be. -UofM 2nd yr ARCH
well said. i ve no prob with ur definition but may be u forgot the practical problems called ENERGY.i was talking about a list and in my view i think about the beauty at last and i believe i should keep it in the bottom of my list all of the time and u should think too becoz we need some practical architects now.(gehry is good i know but we don need 100 of him).
Well of course energy efficiency is a big issue with this. It's something that our program focuses on a lot, and I've taken classes on Sustainability. Nonetheless, you know if they have money to do it, it will be done. How much energy and water do you think Las Vegas wastes to keep all their lights going and golf courses so green in the middle of a desert? ...but they make money.
I agree, there are other ways that would be more efficient, but as technology moves forward there will be cheaper ways of doing things like this. I support the idea, but in all actuality I don't think it'd be feasible financially to do something like this everywhere you go, and if something like this were done everywhere you go, what would make them different from the rest?
What's with the ripple effect?

Here is another idea to make your community happier. Instead of putting up a bunch of christmas lights, clean the trash of your streets.

Plus the pictures you show are really low quality and it is hard to even tell if half of them are even lit up.

The music + voice makes it feel like one of those hook up hotline commercials you see like at 2:00AM... cool idea, horrible video.

The one problem is that they would need a large amount of electricity.
