Alphacause, don't let the possibility of giving creationists evidence worry you. When they want to pretend there are more creationist they will simply lie about it. That's what they do.
The real question is why do we have eyes and ears to see and hear. @ what point in evolution did creatures develop a sense of balance, smell etc. Maybe natural selection at some point had many creatures with no eyes and ears. I can't figure out how all creatures from bees to whales have eyes. Who was the common ancestor?
In a blind world the one eyed man is King. Eyes and ears give the organism an advantage over those which cannot see of hear, so are selected for.
What was the common ancestor of all these animals? I do not know for sure, but it's wrong to think of it as an individual. Mutations occur in individuals, but it is the cumulative effect of many mutations from many individuals which transition through the ages.
okay i am dislexic and im English is my second language.... but issent it called I got mail? and not i get mail? :) if not please explain why :) if im corect... IN YOUR FACE! :P hehe
please Please PLEASE someone make a religion to ridicule these heartless bastards, I don't know, make some religion about some pink unicorn, or some spaghetti god...Oh wait...someone has done that already :) We need more satire and parody to take my mind off the depressing notion that this world may end due to zombie jesus worshipppers :(
I don't understand why people don't realize how counter-intuitive anthropocentric worldviews (such as the Genesis creation myth) really are. God created this huge complex universe, just to create a paradise on this small planet on the edge of a galaxy, while also making it impossible to reach the speed of light, and therefore barring us from any other galaxy at all. Fucking weird.
I heard just recently that gawd has switched to contacts instead of glasses. He got fed up with losing them all the time. So much for an omniscient being. He can't even remember where he left those darn glasses. Also, from the same source, I was told that he loves the cat-eye iris option and likes to freak out his dad on his left side. I think the holy pigeon must be nervous that one of the trilogy is getting all fashionable and will probably be wanting more bling to accessorize his new contacts
Even someone like myself, wih my limited empathetic skills, would not allow a child to suffer. This is all I need to know in order to be deaf to any pleas about there being an all powerful, all intervening, God of love.
Maybe god created us with less than perfect eyes so that we would seek ways to correct our sight and therefore create lenses which in time would lead to microscopes and telescopes and thereby expand our micro and macro vision of the universe. All of which lead to atronomy, cosmologies, quantum physics, big bang theories etc. So you "see" god really is an intelligent designer. The eye is perfectly designed so as to lead us to see distant, very distant, worlds.
I got something very similiar handed to me by a jehovas witness. They asked me if I "believed in anything"
and I said I liked to keep an open mind and always ask for evidence, and they gave me a booklet on how Scientists are apperently divided on evolution..and the evidence for creation is strong. Wtf? When did they decend to that level of batshit insanity?
Right from the very beginning. They were batshit insane when the Watchtower began to be published in 1879, and they're still going strong, 130 years later.
After all those predictions about the end of the world, which have convieniently been scrubbed from their history books, It's amazing they have anything left. I was going to start a debate with them, but I was on my way to work.
and their evidence was saying that scientists are divided, and that over 60% of the universe is composed of 'unknown dark energy' so science MUST be wrong!
If you're doing it for the lulz, go right ahead. But I think you're wasting your time. They believe what the Watchtower tells them. If you introduce things that don't agree with the Watchtower, they won't care.
I also didn't like the quote-mining you mentioned, because I knew that disagreement over how certain things happened (i.e. punctuated equilibrium vs. constant evolutionary change) didn't mean that evolution itself was in question. Most dubs can't figure that out, and remain WT suckers.
Askegg, I would go even further than you in showing how terribly the human body is "designed." After all, if you eliminate the many modern advances of medicine and science, and look at the rate of infant mortality and death as a result of disease, life expectancy for most people prior to 1800 was abysmally low. God's "design" had a high failure rate. So much for intelligent design.
My one reservation about subscribing to the magazine is that the people who publish it will get a false impression as to the number of Creationists out there, and they might report an inflated number.
The cover is obscene, as if the designer and editor both have a short-circuit in their empathy wiring. If only they could get away from the pathetic need for omnipotence and omniscience, then they wouldn't have to make obscene excuses for their God's complete inaction. While we're talking religion we're not talking about the real problems, and that alone makes religion a worthy and deserving target.
I love the comparason of micro and macro evolution with walking a step NOT proving it's possible to walk a mile.
This goes beyond shortsightedness, how someone can except one as fact but adamantly deny the other is beyond my comprehension. The two are accentually the same thing, the only difference between the two is the time allowed to pass before viewing the outcome, the end result.
Heh, he had the fires of hell in him. That sounds like my grandfather. If you spilled something he'd inhale for three full seconds just to bellow out "GOD DAMMIT!!!"
no evolution say thing change IF the envirement change so if the envirement dont change the "thing" wont change eigther. But ofcourse it also means there need to be more than 1 populations and that theres no genetic infomation passed between those populations.
I'm still signed up to Popoff and that bastard sends my like 2 to 3 letters a week.
I still occasionally send the donation envelope, which has a prepaid by Popoff stamp on it, back to him with two or three pennies in it, just up his mail costs.
i'm no evolution expert but i'm pretty sure there's really not a time standard for significant evolution to take place. it may be known as very gradual, but it depends on the species and the standard for gradual. some species don't evolve much at all even over millions of years, others can change quite a bit within several thousand years. i think the base standard for evolution, i've heard elsewhere, is that it's descent with genetic modification and environmental attrition. time can vary.
Exactly. Evolution says thing can change, but does not guarantee they will. If an organism is well suited to it's environment then it will not change if the environment is static.
I love sending out for free religious literature, I have a whole file full of rubbish like this. One day I'll think of something good to do with it.. :D
The list of bad decisions is extensive. One heart instead of two (like out lungs), shared eating and breathing tubes, a urinal tract which runs right through the middle of the prostrate, etc. It's all a big mess.
We don't see as well as cats because our cilliary muscles don't relax enough to increase the size of our retina to the point that the minimal amount of light around at night is enough. I would love to be able to see in the dark as I am a night person, it's just not in human DNA.
One may or may not realize from the book enclosed "Creation or Evolution?" but it was published in the eighties and has been disseminated widely ever since. It's a staple of creationist literature. I have received three copies to date, one of which is FULL of notes and and flash cards to the point it has to be held closed with a rubber band. The most telling feature? The first fallacy is on the cover: "Creation or evolution" is a false dichotomy. Well done creationists. Well done.
I am of two minds. 1) It grants them some political power being able to say how many people are subscribed to their publications. 2) Only by finding out what they are publishing can we address the many flaws in their arguments.
I'm actually looking forward to getting older. My eyesight will actually improve. Instead of the image being formed past the retina when my lens starts to get less flexible this will actually move the image closer to my retina.
I am legally blind without my glasses. I am not even perfect with glasses. Plus I have a massive amount of photo sensitivity. I have reddish brown eyes, and people with light eyes tend to have more problem with bright light. Mine, I have been told is a congenital defect. (It's also common in people with ADD and dyslexia, especially if those two co-exist. In me, they do. Makes life fun.) The human eye is far from perfect. Or intelligently designed.
i hate these people and their glorifying of suffering. not to mention the down playing of death, it's disrespectful and insulting to people and the people they're lost >:(

I believe the injured baby image is taken from a famous photograph of the aftermath of the Japanese attack on China prior to WWII.
So, yeah, they think that kid not only got horribly burned while his parents were slaughtered, but also believe that that kid is now burning in hell.
Nice, huh?

And of course, if the little burned baby wasn't christian. these knuckleheads believe that's sufficient for it to suffer for all eternity.
In fact, many christian sects oppose abortion on the concept that an aborted baby automatically goes to hell, because it never was baptized.
