When I was a kid in the 60s, all my relatives would gather on Xmas Eve for songs & big dinner, then exchange gifts.
After the old timers died, that tradition ended promptly. The one big party became a few smaller parties on Xmas Eve with smaller groups of the relatives. Eventually the family split apart, no gathering for like 30 years. This is a pattern that occurred across our country.
We should all be thankful for our families & keep in mind that family unity & love belongs in our lives daily
I listen to the chipmunks sing christmas music in spanish!! and any other christmas music i like! :) ummm on christmas eve, we go to our friend's house and eat and hang out until almost midnight and open presents!!! but this year it will be a little different. we will have 3 christmases to go to. it's gonna be nuts
@xxairy09xx ohh chipmuncks. We actually used to listen to the alvin & the chipmunks xmas album every year while putting up the tree. I forgot about that! English though :)
I don't know if it is a wierd tradition, but we always get to open a present on Christmas Eve, as a kid we would watch Annie (just to sing at the top of our lungs "TOMORROW!!" ...we watched Emmett Otters jug band Christmas!
@TheHappyNarwhals seems like a lot of people in the comments here are saying they opened (a) present(s) xmas eve so thats not weird, but Annie, well, you're the first for that :P
Little unusual tradition... my family and I gather around the nativity scene we put under the Christmas tree on Christmas eve with a cupcake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. It's fun :)
We don't do anything that unusual. When I was little, we used to always get to open one present on Christmas Eve and every year it was pajamas. And my family is so huge (I'm one of 9 children and there are 9 nieces/nephews behind me) that we can't afford to buy everyone a gift so the adults do a Chinese gift exchange and the kids do Secret Santa. I'm right in between in age so I do both. Still, two presents is easier than 20.
dont have anyt these days but when I was a kid we use to have a big party on Cmas eve at our home and my grandfather would read the Nigh before Cmas in German. Also I love Cartman he says all the things we wish we could but cant...he has not filter between his brain and his mouth LMAO
@cheryl457 Don't forget Kenny. He says the things you REALLY can't say :) I actually haven't even watched south park in the past few years. It lost its edge..
i have a very weird christmas tradition which unfortunately i cant do this year for the 1st time in my life and im kinda heart broken over it...i used to watch a certain very old christmas movie, its not on dvd but VHS and i dont have a video player! the yvon-o-monmster keeps the tape before it gets deprssing...but its the most epic(cheap) film ever made: The Bear Who Slept Through Christmas
@straps6661 No fanpages are free. I have one too, facebook dot you know what slash HeyUrgo. Google create facebook page and you'll find the link to make one of your own. Make an official page.
no sorry, no clue who it is!! thx for the lights! no i know who you are :P! urgo im sending you a X-mas card!! can you send me something? i didnt wanna sound cheesy and poor by asknig but it be so awesome to get something from you!!
not a tradition before christmas but on christmas day my family get together and play golf at a local golf course, mainly cause no one's there at that time and we have it all to ourselves...oh and because it's summer here in aus.
Only thing we do for christmas that might be a little weird is, we have a christmas pickle ornament and whoever finds it first on the tree gets to pass out the presents.
People think we are weird because we dont give gifts to each other... why should people BINGE on commercial stuff to commemorate Jesus' birth? But when we gather for Christmas dinner with family and friends everyone gets a home-made decorated envelope and everyone should put in a check or money for their favorite charity... we do that on December the 6th the day to put up the Xmas tree.. on the 24th we meet again for another dinner among family!
I watch A Charlie Brown Christmas just for the part where Linus is in the spotlight quoting the story of Jesus' birth from Luke. That's my own personal tradition.
On Dexter's side of the family we draw names and we always have a "theme" for our gifts. This year the theme is 'red' and we've set a $10 limit. We decide our theme when we're together at Thanksgiving. We've had lots of fun over the years coming up with all different kinds of things to do.
@Urgo6667 Back in the US we play "find the elves on the shelves" - however, living abroad, my vacation usually coincides with Christmas, so it's travel time.
Well, for the last couple of years I've watched "Big Trouble in Little China" for most of at *least* one day.. don't know if I'm going to do it again this year. I might.
@TinFoilChefDotCom Hmm never seen that movie. I think the only real xmas movie we watch a lot of is a christmas story, though I don't think even that I saw until I was in college... not sure if we had any movies we watched when I was littler. Sometimes we go out TO a movie xmas as well.
@Urgo6667 well, to be honest, BTILC isn't a Christmas movie. it's a cheesy, overacted thing with Kurt Russel as a reluctant hero in an odd Chinatown adventure. Funny as all get out though
the list: decorate the yard with lights, make cookies & fudge, send out cards, drive around to look at other Christmas lights, take a sleigh ride, go caroling, must go see Santa and have the kids get their pics w/him, do some kind of "pay it forward thing" (bell ringer, help the needy, etc), put up the tree, gift exchange, Christmas eve candlelite service. I love to sing a solo during the holidays at church. Not sure what's weird--do this kind of stuff every season. :) ho ho ho
Idk if this is weird or not but we open gifts Christmas eve not Christmas morning lol..... but this year its kinda sad my family won't be together 4 the Holiday's cuz of a emergency family stuff in another country so its kinda the first Christmas I can remember with no gifts under the tree lol and no family time!!! anyway's I wish you and Ender a very Merry early Christmas a a Happy New year!!!!!
We don't have any. We do the usual go to Midnight Mass (although lately it's been at 10:00 pm) and then go home, sleep and open presents on Christmas day. The only thing that changes from year to year is whether my sister and her husband and kids come over because they usually alternate between his mom's and our parents from year to year.
@Urgo6667 Haha well let's see... weirder weirder... I buy santa clause socks. O.k i got nothing :P Now I feel like starting a weird christmas tradition...hmm.
