  • Anyone have mandolin tabs??

  • nobody does this type of music better than chris. bill

  • Love it. Great storytelling and guitar work!

  • I come from the Netherlands and I listen to this song for about a year now and everytime I listen to it it creeps under my skin. This guy knows how to tell a story! I love it. It's about time he comes to the Netherlands to do some shows...

  • 5 people hate great songs. probably like rap.

  • Mr. Knight is a master of that rare art form where people use songs to tell a story. This one and "Down the River" in particular just send chills throughout my body for the authenticity and beauty in them. Been a fan for about 15 years and it has never been dull. Thank you for doing what you do and keep the stuff coming!

  • awesome

  • That is plain bad ass....what the hell! Fantastic stuff, thanks for posting.

  • one of the best song writers I've heard.

  • wow! We got married in Montana and our first child was born in Williston ND. all those memories come rushing back when I heard this song. Damn, what a song!

  • 701 i love it i live in a town with no street lights no cop it great hicklyfe

  • Dang this guy can write a song.

  • One thing I always notice about Chris is that he goes somewhere else when hes singing his music. The man is one hell of a story teller.

  • @rockylewismwd Yeah you can tell, then at the end of the video I like how you can tell he's snapping back out of it and coming back to reality.

  • His voice sounds like an old sergeant major I had in the army. He would sing when we were on patrols and when he thought no one was listening. Tough and poignant all in one. The hard-plucking strings go with the mood and the lyrics. And very apropos for the environment today, not just North Dakota, but all the nation, "trying to keep fire and food..." We've all got ghosts, too. Keep on, Mr. Knight

  • Great song,Mr.Knight!!!! This Minnesotan cold relate to it.I also love North Dakota, especially the western side from Bowman to Williston. Thanks for the posting!

  • Northern plains. Cold. Snow. Melancholy. Slow. Strings. I can just see the gray skies. What's not to like about this tune?

  • people who dont like this song come to north dakota and freeze your little brain in the frozen wasteland you think it is

  • Pure Craftsmen....

  • great version of this song, love all of his stuff but this is one of my favorite Chris Knight songs

  • America

  • That is good music. All that needs to be said.

  • A truely moving, no-nonsense, country song.

  • True Country, No bullshit

  • I built his house in KY bout 5-6 years ago. Awesome guy. Hard worker too. Sometime he'd be sweating more than us! (it was hot summer that year!)

  • boys this right here is real country at its best

  • WoW! <3

  • Chris Knight means so much to me. His songs tells my story with almost every song. He is awesome!!!!!

  • North Dakota is the best state in the whole wide world. Haha and i don't even live there.

  • damn good song

  • a true poet

  • hihÌ_î_féêl_sø_l0ÑélY_tØDåÿ

  • Hell yeah... F*ckin Rocker

  • Best export from Ky. that isn't bourbon or smoke! Sounds just like he does in concert as he does on his recordings.

  • I feel the winter chill every time I hear this song. Chris is incredibly gifted.

  • bad dude

  • Awesome, Chris Knight. You are an Icon and a heckuva singer/songwriter/picker.

  • 2 people are deaf..............................

  • i love the acoustics of this. Chris did an amazing job capturing the sound and vocal.

  • The two dislikes are Wilson and his cousin!!!!!!!!!

  • @stopherman72 Somebody can love the song but hate the way the video is shot and edited. If I would have edited this and seen the raw footage, I would have been mad and someone would have heard about it. I would have been looking for new cameramen.

  • @freetickeys.....Its not the point...I think Chris Knight is awesome and the sound quality of this is very good and thats what matters to me. Do you have any better videos of him performing this live??? If not...shut up and enjoy what you see!!!!!

  • @stopherman72 Yes, I have better Chris Knight videos than this. So, shut up and listen.

  • @stopherman72 You have no videos posted, so most likely, you don't know of which you speak. I was only referring to the video quality. I produce an award winning hour long tv show of local performers and events. I woulda thought my cameramen were on heroin, if they gave me this. If only sound matters to you, maybe you should stick to the cd. If you like to hear his live performances go to archive.org and search Chris Knight in Live Music Archive. They're posted with permission of Rick Alter.

  • @freetickeys.Unfoutunately I'm just a lowly music fan and not a video "expert" like u. Someone of your expertise and caliber must know what they are talking about since u produce an "award winning show". However, since u are the only 1 of the 84,000 people that has viewed this video and has something negative to say about it why dont you go back to producing your award winning show and leave us lowly "youtubers' to watching the music videos we like to watch and keep your negative comments quiet!

  • @stopherman72 I probably shouldn't answer you. Can you even make a video? You haven't posted any! Do you have a brain? I am no expert! I am an an amatuer. Nobody but you called youtubers "lowly". Are you all knowing? Must everyone share your opinion. If you're right, youtube should delete the dislike button. However, someone smarter than you put it there. You're a misstatement specialist. Your comments are junk! Please learn about videography before you run your mouth anymore. Paul Turner

  • This is my favorite.

  • who's the 2 dislikes? We'll find em a spot below the trestle where the water runs slow

  • if the mandolin player is as cool as he seems.. then he is my hero. Only second to chris knight and jesus

  • @johnwayne50 totally with you, dude!

  • It's always refreshing to hear music like this. Chris Knight is one of the few musicians in today's music business that not only sounds great on the album, but might actually sound better live. There's none of the pre-packaged, over-produced garbage that floods today's music business. Music from Knight, and a few others like him have helped me through a rough year in my own life. Thanks Chris, keep on producing stuff like this and I'll keep on buying it and spreading the word about it.

  • great song and great person.

  • I love the way he always paints a picture in your head............perfection

  • guts...grit....goosebumbs. there's really only 2 kinds a music out there....the real kind and the dollar kind. sure sometimes the masses see the truth and understand just a touch and find their way to talent then that talent gets some fame and fortune. that's good for everbody. but most folks just let mr radio man tell whats good and what aint. usually that gives me a little more space near a stage somewhere with sombody playin the real kind.

  • Sweet!

  • Bold dude got his hair upside down ! :)

  • Really a great musician.

  • The best out there. A real, no BS singer/songwriter.

  • Unbelievable song, makes me want to be from Kentucky, too bad I'm from Texas! Anyway, Chris has got to be the best singer/songwriter I have ever seen, get your ass back to Texas Chris!

  • @chudson1979

Mr. Knight is an honorary Texan, bestowed by Governor Rick Perry.

  • @MrLongshotlouie technically hes from kentucky

  • I like this guy...his heart is in it

  • This guy is a once in a generation singer/songwriter. If you have ever seen him live, you know what I mean. Nobody can touch this guy-

  • Damn he's bad ass

  • Beautiful song, I'm from Belcourt North Dakota, and the Winters are to be feared here, I had 3 cousins that froze to death, and this song reminds me of them. I love Chris Knights songs.

  • This is truly one of the most haunting love songs I've ever heard. To me, you can feel the pain he is feeling at her loss in every syllable sung. Chris is a true talent and wonderful to hear. (As I too have worn out most songs--thing this one went first!)

  • I wore out this track on my cd. It about moves me to tears every time I hear it.

  • This song never loses its power. Brilliant writing.

  • Now thats music!!!

  • can't stop playing this.... Chris Knight - unadulterated stone country. breaking hearts and bringing tears to my eyes. great video

  • Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this song or all Chris Knight songs for that matter. I'm especially interested what the lead guitar or mandolin plays on this one. Thanks.

  • We need an acoustic cd dammit. Love the rough sound of the Trailer Tapes...

  • I thought it was great, hell of songwriter and singer and guitarest

  • nice video

  • i heard this song on pandora and had to hear it again

  • Who is better??????

  • no one better.

  • why is it so hard for Chris' music to hit mainstream he the best i've heard since waylon or hank

  • He is by far the best musician out there

  • Hardly recognized Chris all cleaned up like that. One of my favorite storytellers.

  • Great story song by Chris Knight, and Chris Clark is great on the mandolin like always. Thanks for posting.

  • Great song. Audio was real good. However, as far as the video goes....it seems somebody must have been in a (music) fog! You obviously used a lot of nice gear to make this video and it seems to have, pretty much!, been wasted. Too much useless movement. It made it real hard to enjoy watching. If I would have been drunk, I would have fallen down. However, it still sounded great from the other room, though. Hopefully this was a grade school or "short bus" project of some kind. Good Luck! Paul

  • Greatest songwriter alive.

  • Agreed, I had the pleasure to meet Chris in 06 at the Snorty Horse Saloon in Springfield Missouri. Very soft spoken, all around good person. His song writing is amazing. Nobody else can touch it.
