Come on Slash, yeah, you wanted to do something for the fans....like overcharge the shit out of them for another slash model. Not to mention that the original guitar wasn't even a real Gibson. Fuck off man.
@Disco234jockey not really, its just that Slash's original has faded and the characteristic of the finish has lightened, the way the AFD guitars look is what the Original one did in 88, go back and watch GNR videos of 88 and you can see that it looks like the AFD guitars look like
@SmyganPro His copy was completely hand made, no Gibson parts were used. It was never branded Gibson. I don't know what Gibson made for him, a Historic seems most likely.
@SmyganPro No, it was a replica, it had Gibson on the headstock. Lots of people made Gibson replicas in the 80's because Gibson quality was POOR, the prices were insane and they didn't do reissues. Everyone wanted a 59 Les Paul, Gibson wouldn't make them so people consulted private builders. It's a well known fact that the AFD guitar was a Chris Derrig replica. Slash has said so many times. :)
Would it hurt them to tell the truth? The Guitar was made by Chris Derrig (now deceased). He made approx. 25 to 35 '59 Les Paul copies that were highly regarded. I had the opportunity to inspect one about 20 years ago. This particular guitar was far superior to any other replica I have ever seen.
@JimmyPage968 i'm not too sure about Slash's particular guitars. but I have held a Derrig made '59 replica & it was tremendous. The attention to detail was amazing, it was loaded w/ PAF's from ES-335 & it sounded amazing.
@MrUltraworld G'day mate, have you compared a Gibson AFD to the Derrig? If so, how do they compare? Have Gibson come close at least with the AFD? Cheers.
Poor Slash. Forced to be a corporate whore. That kinda sucks, but you gotta pay the bills, I suppose. Unlike Dave Mustaine, who's just a whore, period.
I love slash but his appetite guitar was a 59 replica made by a independent luthier and was purchaced in a swap shop by their manager at the time..he had called gibson looking for guitars at that time and they wouldnt give him anything.he didnt have any money so they bought the replica which was played through a little modded marshall studio amp..I heard they were going to make a replica of the replica..go figure, snobby gibson....

Kind of a hoot seeing as the guitar that Slash played on the album AFD was not made by Gibson. You can read the history of the guitar that was used on the album at Ed Roman guitars / rants / ghost.
Many of Slash's 'Les Pauls' were made by ghost builders, ironic seeing as Slash almost single handedly saved Gibson from going under with guitars that were not built by them!
@Patriot1962 What do you mean.. I thought Slash was handed a Gibson Les Paul 1959 Standard from his manager during the AFD sessions because he had a Les Paul but it did not have the sound that he wanted..
So, basically, it sounds like he has heard some guys talk about guitars before, and, he doesn't really know what he's talking about. Love you, buddy, but, shut-up and play yer guitar
@duh464 - You may wanna research your facts. In the 80s a number of luthiers were making replica 59 Les Pauls, right down to the logos, because what Gibson puts out is often sub-par. Slash's guitars were built by the now deceased Chris Derrig. A quick Google will turn up an interview with Slash on SlashsWorld, with details of the guitar straight from the player.
I have a USA Fender Strat Plus! a Custom Epiphone Les Paul with Seymour Duncand and a 1977 USA gibson marauder. I use the marauder live most of the time as it has a unique sound! something between? a les Paul and Telecaster?? if thats how you can discribe the sound? it is an oddball guitar but I love it
I do own a 1977 gibson marauder :) can't afford a Gibson USA Les Paul :) but I do have a custom Epiphone with all the crap ripped out! and replaced with quailty stuff! including Seymour Duncans :)
@duh464 I'm not trying to piss anyone off but the original WAS a copy. Look it up. Also, saying Gibson's are the best guitars is 100% subjective. Hendrix said strats were the best. So what can you say about that. I like les pauls, but I rather own a strat for it's versatility. Also, Slash basically uses D pentatonic. He's not bad, but a little confined. So don't hate on people because you're hotheaded.
Gibson must think guitar players are all morons. The only people who will want this are Slash fans and anyone who takes even a passing interest in his gear knows that the guitar used on Appetite was a Les Paul copy. I understand that luthiers make copies or homages to great guitars, but there's no way in fuck that the guy who made Slash's original would have inlaid the Gibson logo and Les Paul moniker. I'd love to do some research and find pictures of the ACTUAL guitar used and see it.
@TUUK2006 ur a fucking moron man your stupid... plus look up all the guitars! gibsons are all 1000-100000dollars..... gibsons are the best guitars out there... so dude just dont talk shit about lash because he is way the fuck better than u
Yeah, I love Slash, but this is all bullshit and just a huge sales promotion. Even in his book he says that the guitar that he used for the Appetite-sessions was a hand-built Les Paul COPY that was made by some guy in Cali (or wherever). He hardly had shit for gear at the time, and there's no way he had an actual Les Paul on-hand (if you read about his struggles with addiction, this'll make a little more sense). Like somebody else commented already, this is just pure "milking it".
I got to try out one of these Les Pauls when I was in New York, they kick ass! Awesome tone, neck, and they look great! If ya love rock and roll, I suggest the Appetite Les Paul!
Is anyone else tired of Slash Les Pauls and Dimebag guitars coming out every goddamn week? I love the first GnR record but dude...give it a rest man, and work on your damn band instead of your guitar models.
Love slash, love his tone, have his signature model in tobacco sunburst. been playing since '84. Me and my late friend had an opportunity to purchase a slash signed/played LP in '92 at a charity auction. The guitar went for just under 2500. I would have paid more, but i was on a student income. Too this day, I have been kicking myself. I do not know what this guitar costs, but i would have loved a slash adjusted LP for myself. But you know what? Make the tone, don't buy it. Sorry Slash.
@tonko94 No was not. It's common knowledge it was a les paul replica. Even Slash himself has said so. Unless I'm hugely mistaken, the Boneyard wasn't even around back then.
Come on Slash, yeah, you wanted to do something for the fans....like overcharge the shit out of them for another slash model. Not to mention that the original guitar wasn't even a real Gibson. Fuck off man.

I use the marauder live most of the time as it has a unique sound! something between? a les Paul and Telecaster?? if thats how you can discribe the sound? it is an oddball guitar but I love it
Fender1976uk 1 year ago
I do own a 1977 gibson marauder :) can't afford a Gibson USA Les Paul :) but I do have a custom Epiphone with all the crap ripped out! and replaced with quailty stuff! including Seymour Duncans :)
Fender1976uk 1 year ago
@Fender1976uk so u have a marauder from the original run?
jimihendrixtribute 1 year ago
Its a 1977 Marauder, I don't think they ever re-issued them? they were made somewhere around 1975 to 1981?? not sure?
Fender1976uk 1 year ago
They were made 1974 to 1979
Fender1976uk 1 year ago

@TUUK2006 Dude, it's a fucking tribute to Slash, it's not a new guitar in the 'Les Paul' series, but a tribute..

duh464 1 year ago
The effort was for than fans? A limited edition £2000 guitar is for "the kids"? Lost touch with reality much, Slash?
TUUK2006 1 year ago
@TUUK2006 ur a fucking moron man your stupid... plus look up all the guitars! gibsons are all 1000-100000dollars..... gibsons are the best guitars out there... so dude just dont talk shit about lash because he is way the fuck better than u
duh464 1 year ago

Okay, so if that orginal Les paul is not a gibson, what is it?
skelton1089 1 year ago
@skelton1089 It is a handmade replica made by Chris Derrig. It's a copy of a '59 Les Standard with Seymour Duncan Alnico pro 2 Pu's.

If you believe or not ... Slash was using Epiphone Joe Perry Boneyard in original record appetite for destruction ...
tonko94 1 year ago
@tonko94 No was not. It's common knowledge it was a les paul replica. Even Slash himself has said so. Unless I'm hugely mistaken, the Boneyard wasn't even around back then.
