some terrrible comments really - very good video and worth doing - people should open up to look at these two great artists from a different perspective as you have shown in this video - well done
@Sfrussell1963 Yes, but it is difficult to int grate two people when they didn't actually sing together. But there's little point to the effort. though it shows that Karen Carpenter could really sing. When one is alive, you can adapt. Here, it hurts the ears.
Even though its dubbed it is still really cool to hear my 2 favorite singers sing together. Both had unfortunate and untimely deaths and I guess that is what makes them true icons. They don't have to compete to remain great. They made their mark in the world and left. They will never be forgotton. Elvis died 2 years before I was born and Karen when I was almost 4, but they have always been apart of my life and I now share them with my children.I look forward to meeting them in heaven one day.
This kind of back-and-forth insulting on this post of these two great singers, both of whom are not here to defend themselves, is not necessary and out of line. Both had legendary talent, but both had tragic lives and died sick and unhappy - and it didn't have to happen! Think of this before you speak. Would you comment publicly on a member of your family this way? If the answer is yes, no wonder our country is in trouble.
Karen Carpenter sure was a great singer and I love her voice, I am sorry if I offended anyone by saying she was not a legend I check out the information before I made the statement and Rock and Roll Legends does not have her listed as a legend . Maybe you can go on their web side and vote for her to become one as I did.Elvis and Karen both had unique beautiful voices.May they rest in peace.
Elvis Presley and Karen Carpenter were both great singers, and both are legends, but they obviously had different styles of singing, which leads to different interpretations of the song. So idk, I just didn't like this recording of them together. It just sounded kind of weird, like two different versions mashed together. But still, they are both great singers. RIP Elvis & Karen.
Fuck me,just listen to the song, its not a competition!! Every youtube video you get knobheads "fighting" or hitting the dislike, why????? You surely can;t be a fan of the artist, why watch then???? Just look for somit else, some assholes outthere.
Elvis never did cocaine he died from prescriptions drugs. If you are going to make comments please get your information straight. Elvis is a legend Karen Carpenter is not.No one can compete with Elvis he will always be the king. His musical career speaks for itself , he died 1977 and still selling records 2011.
@sadie1945 Karen Carpenter is NOT a Legend? Seriously? If Buddy Holly or Jimi Hendrix is a LEGEND, Karen Carpenter is also a Legend. She was a brilliant singer, cut down in her prime. Both Karen Carpenter and Elvis had decades of great music still in front of them, both were cut short, succumbing to personal demons. Both lives legendary. Both ends senseless and tragic.
It's NOT a competition. It's music. Elvis is NO less legendary if someone thinks Karen Carpenter is ALSO legendary.
@sadie1945 - Elvis has chalked up certified sales of more than one billion records worldwide. The Carpenters, 100 million. Since you're scolding someone for the "cocaine" comment and demanding accuracy, why not say "Karen Carpenter is a legend - Elvis is a BIGGER legend"? Elvis is, and will always be "Elvis". It doesn't get any bigger - we all know that. But 100 million records is nothing to scoff at or minimize. The Carpenters certainly made their mark - give credit where credit is due.
See how that works? Sounds like a bunch of stupid words doesn't it?
BTW. When you mash two recordings you have to put them in the same pitch. The two songs are in different keys. The result is something that sounds off and kind of creepy. It would've been so nice if the pitch was corrected.
OMG!!! How you compare an angel like Elvis with a heavenly voice to a drug addicted withered, bony has been??? Very insulting! Karen sounds like she's drunk again in this recording, very sad. We miss you Elvis!!!
While I appreciate what you're trying to do, and it is an interesting concept to duet the two, it just doesn't work that well... I appreciate the effort though...
@maleficentdiva What a disgusting thing to say about a good man who never drank. And it only shows that you haven't listened to much of this man's beautiful voice.(There's 800 songs). A voice studied through the years by voice coaches and professors from colleges and universities all over the country. Almost 3 octaves. His voice cannot be touched. That said, I love Karen's beautiful, pure voice. No one quite like her. But never compare these two.
both singers - in their own way - kept to themselves, playing the game... would have been good to actually have them do this as a duet; had they both lived. yes.... not a fabulous harmonic match-up, but ironic - iconic - and in its own way, very poignant.
Karen definately the best!!!.. SI PUEDE QUE SI DESTAQUE KAREN EN ESTA VERSION Y HASTA SUPERE A ELVIS. KAREN ES UNA DE MIS CANTANTES FAVORITAS SIN DUDA.
PERO ELVIS LA SUPERA EN "ALTURA MUSICAL" EN EL CONJUNTO DE SU OBRA PUES "EL REY" ES UN VERSIONEADOR "IMBATIBLE e INSUPERABLE".
@CandyHaleLinton I can NOT AGREE more..this is no good work..it is the way to show that the person made this do not no anything about music...tonedef is the word...Heartbreaking and a bad thing to do to two very fine musicians..STUPID IS THE ONLY WORD FOR DOING THIS.
come on people youre missing the point so i like to see some you sing this song i have its a hard song to sing so dont pass judgment until you have done it
Not crazy about the two being put together, but do understand why one would want to. Elvis has the best voice in the universe. The only voice that has been studied all over the country by professors at universities and voice coaches, to this day. So no one can take that diversified gift from him. Karen, on the other hand had an angelic, pure voice like none other. God Bless their sweet souls.

ADEUS!!!
I'm wiping tears from my eyes right now. Not because of the loss of two great vocalists, but from laughter at just how wonky and crappy this attempted match is. Laugh? I nearly SHAT!!!
This mix sounds like it was put together with two old record players and a cheap reel-to-reel. A rough draft never taken to the next step. It's an insult to both singers.
I never knew they ever performed togethter and suspected this obviously must be rigged. Finally I had to give it a listen out of curiosity. My god!,the dissonant clashes between the orchestral parts makes this sound like something out of the deepest regions of The Twilight Zone! What a catastrophy and gross insensitivity and insult to both artists. This only reminds us of the horrible tragedies of both artists untimely senseless deaths . @tiptopsport --Oh for gaud'sake fella, just appreciate it for the heart felt endeavor it represents, --yes it is rather impossible to blend two entirely separate performances, -yet if you just go with the flow as most of us have, ---we found it imperfect yet spellbinding, --and thank the person that created this artistic composition... ~Robair vH
I think Karen's version is technically better, but on the other hand Elvis *lives* this song - he is in a way singing about himself (he recorded it towards the end of his life, lonely and depressed), and the emotional connection is unmistakable. So I like both versions for different reasons. This "duet" doesn't really work that well because of the key and tempo changes, but still is interesting. I wish they could have sung a duet in real life. Sadly, both of them were gone before their time.
What an awful opening by Elvis. This is not his song. Wheel him away. Karen sounds better in the chorus with her own verse - and without that awful double tracking in the Chorus
Wow, I didn't even know Elvis sang this song! This would have sounded much better if you could have digitally changed the keys they were singing in to match. That's easily done these days. As it is it sounds kind of "freakish".
@pbanta62 It's beautiful! I've loved Elvis since I was 5 (almost 5 decades ago) and I used to sing Carpenter songs a lot. Yea it could have been better digitally mastered, but not everyone has that talent.. still with me.. it had the right affect... I still cannot stop crying! :-( RIP Elvis and Karen
I never really heard Karen Carpenter until today, and I am loving HER!!!! what a clear and wonderful voice dipped in heartbreaking emotion. It sad to know she suffered so much and died far too soon. RIP beautiful songbird!
Karen had one of the Greatest voices ever!! She puts anyone who thinks they are singers now to shame. It just flowed out and she was beautiful. Met her when we were in high school, she went to the rival across town. Richard still lives in the town they are from in CA and lives behind my Uncle. We miss her so much!!!
Good effort. I have tried to do this type of mix a few times. I know its very hard without having separate vocal tracks etc. it would be nice to have original masters to play with, huh?
Elvis had a rich voice but mispronounced a lot of words and stuff. Technically Karen was the better singer, because she phonetically sounded out the words more accurately. I love both voices though.
Think it's strange enough with both songs fused together? Try listening to this along with the background noise from the maze game Submachine....eerily trippy!
Uhhh that voice....a golden voice!!!! How do you describe that voice??
It can chill and warm you at the same time, if that is possible...pure perfection...just able to flow thru a single octave in one note....and the way she caresses every note...she doesn't just sing note for note, word for word...she just adds that extra something...that hidden pain within her pysche...that maybe she was not even able to convey in her own life, but thru her song, she was able to let it out..Feb 4, 1983...
Karen and Elvis had among the most beautiful male and female voices ever and it is a joy to hear them together. This mix doesn't work at all. They are at least a step apart, and the attempt at a chord at the end was a miss. Maybe a bit of pitch change between the two could have created some magical harmony while maintaining the range and integrity of the originals... And let's not forget Neil Sedaka for composing this beautiful piece.
o que é bom fica cada vez melhor em outras vozes dois ídolos de gerações quenos deixaram mais suas músicas permanecem por longos anos show amei meus parabéns
a good choice of artists to match. you only have to hear either of them for one moment and you know who they are. truly unique voices. where are all the voices that touch your soul nowadays? not too many out there that will last the distance even within their own lifetimes.
@tohotaz they did not kill themselves. They were both lonely soles with illinesses. She had no control over hers anymore then he had over his. Depression played a part in both their deaths.
@barbnearl Depression im sure played a huge part of it. But in the end he shoveled large amounts of drugs and food into his mouth and she could not shovel any in to her mouth. Her brother also was a pill poper as well. But they both were the very best at there craft.
This is very interesting and makes me think about duets.
It would've been great if Karen Carpenter could have done a duet with Elvis, but I think I would've been more interested in seeing her in a duet with Neil Diamond.
great idea but unfortunately the songs are so far apart in pitch and key that there's no way to mix them together without digitally processing one or the other, and it probably would be enough to alter their recognized tones and defeat the purpose. Interesting to hear the alternate lyrics on Elvis's version. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful. Pity it wasn't reality, two of the very best performers ever. Not really an Elvis fan but he could sing. Karen Carpenter is still my all time favourite female singer. This post is even better than the Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline duet.
I like the video... the song mix could be better... Overall, I really liked it. I loved Karen and grew to enjoy Mr. Elvis so the Mix is Enjoyable to my Ear...Thank You for the entertainment...I Cant Do What You Have Done in regard to Techno Stuff...but I Love the Show...SO No Matter What "they say"... there are those who love and will Love! Remember: HATE IS NOT A FAMILY VALUE> Love All and Hug All...please.
i don't think either of them would find this disrespectful. it's like in 'she moved through the fair' when the words are beautiful, and the music is saying 'oh, i'm so sorry'. it ended badly. could have gone better. we look back and feel bad.
it works on a spiritual level it's not about technique

Good effort. I have tried to do this type of mix a few times. I know its very hard without having separate vocal tracks etc. it would be nice to have original masters to play with, huh?

Elvis had a rich voice but mispronounced a lot of words and stuff. Technically Karen was the better singer, because she phonetically sounded out the words more accurately. I love both voices though.

Beautiful! (still whenever I hear Karen's voice, I cry) It sounds flat when they sing together, though.

I'm sorry, but they did not blend together; they didn't get in harmony with each other.

Seperately both versions of this song are beautiful. Together Ugh!

A 'younger version' of Elvis' voice would be the only thing that could make this better.
Elvis, possibly due to the drugs OR alcohol, roughened this voice--think "Puppet on a String"...that moment in time.

a good choice of artists to match. you only have to hear either of them for one moment and you know who they are. truly unique voices. where are all the voices that touch your soul nowadays? not too many out there that will last the distance even within their own lifetimes.

@Mickeyzzzz So sad they both killed there selves one with drugs and the other over food .
tohotaz 1 year ago
@tohotaz they did not kill themselves. They were both lonely soles with illinesses. She had no control over hers anymore then he had over his. Depression played a part in both their deaths.
barbnearl 1 year ago
@barbnearl Depression im sure played a huge part of it. But in the end he shoveled large amounts of drugs and food into his mouth and she could not shovel any in to her mouth. Her brother also was a pill poper as well. But they both were the very best at there craft.

This is very interesting and makes me think about duets.
It would've been great if Karen Carpenter could have done a duet with Elvis, but I think I would've been more interested in seeing her in a duet with Neil Diamond.
Thanks for posting.
notwaiting 1 year ago
great idea but unfortunately the songs are so far apart in pitch and key that there's no way to mix them together without digitally processing one or the other, and it probably would be enough to alter their recognized tones and defeat the purpose.

Elvis man i love you!

i don't think either of them would find this disrespectful. it's like in 'she moved through the fair' when the words are beautiful, and the music is saying 'oh, i'm so sorry'. it ended badly. could have gone better. we look back and feel bad.
it works on a spiritual level it's not about technique
