  • Reminds me ZZ top O_o

  • put chains on the drummer and you have the live version of the muppets animal

  • is it before or after woodstock? because i don't the same face :)

  • @Aiolia1995 before

  • 6 ,20 first headbangers on stage!!

  • MASTEFUL,,,,tuning while playing and sounds great!

  • I love these guys, they are just so cool A1++

  • I have never seen this guy,,,,,but he is good

  • La Grange riff? ZZ top covered!

  • @FrancesccoZadarmo

That's pretty funny...ZZ Top covering Canned Heat's boogie riff!

Suggestion: Google Canned Heat and see what wikipedia tells you about who played what when...

  • @FrancesccoZadarmo No man, you got it all wrong!! I love ZZ TOP, and I own & know by heart all his records, but the story goes like this: That "La Grange" riff, like u call it, is called BOOGIE, and -as far as I know- was created by JOHN LEE HOOKER in the 1940´s!!! CANNED HEAT absolutely re invented it, masterfully, bringing it up to date in the age of massive amplification/distortion that began in late 60´s. ZZ TOP, in 1973, just borrowed the idea straight from them.

  • This is one of the best things that I have ever seen. That guitar solo is something awesome...

  • Fito de la Parra you are the biggest Cabron in Mexico!!! awebo!!!!!

  • Amazing....

  • hemsrock is back

  • mindblowing

  • Thanks Sterno1967. An I'm not attacking Richard - he was an adequate bass player. He had some tremendous footsteps to follow. Taylor is one of the greatest bass players of all time, Just like Fito on the drums. In this video, is Bob playing Wilson's Les Paul? Sure looks like it. I read Fito's book, but I don't remember Bob having Owl's guitar. I don't even remember Bob playing guitar. I've never seen that. Thanks for this clip!

  • That's NOT Larry Taylor on bass. That's Bob Hite'syounger brother (can't remember his name) who filled in after Larry left. He can't touch Larry Taylor. He couldn't even shine the great Taylor's shoes. Check out Larry with John Mayall and Harvey Mandell.

  • @BCRSIX Richard

  • @BCRSIX Completely agree with you concerning TAYLOR´s playing (I think he´s a true master of the bass). One small correction, though: RICHARD HITE didn´t replace TAYLOR directly. The replacement for TAYLOR was ANTONIO DE LA BARREDA, who played bass in 2 records, "HOOKER & HEAT" in 1970 and "HISTORICAL FIGURES" in 1971. RICHARD HITE came in for the 1972´s LP "NEW AGE", and he was -for me- the least gifted of the three bassists.

  • Just one word: fantastic!

  • Is the bass player a young Larry Taylor, who in later years is Tom Waits man..???

  • @electroman65

    yep!

you also can listen to Larry Taylor at Jazz Blues Fusion by John Mayall.

    best regs

  • Canned Heat were proof that looks can be deceiving.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MEN !!!!!

  • Groso, man. No no, espectacular..

  • Rock on in hearts heat !!!

    Blues the night into day!!

  • don't forget the boogie !

  • riff ZZ top la grange...en plus rapide mouhahaha

  • Drum solo=cigarette break.

  • Vestine's solo kicks ass, love his playing style.

  • @Bennevisie

    You said Brother.

  • 1:35 min. great solo on bass! vintage fender is the best! great bass and bass player at that time was the bass!!! today an instrument of desire of many!!!

  • wowowowowowowowowo!!!!!!!

  • Jesus was a drummer.

  • I had the privilege seeing these guys play at the Atlanta Rock Festival back in '68.

    They be jammin'!!

  • never saw that!!shame to myself......thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Must have been after Al Wilson died, huh?

  • cortaron el viaje

  • theese old hippys rock!!!!

  • ladies and gentleman, that is how you play the bass.

  • @ponzu4u

yes sir, and the drums ;-)

you also can listen to Larry Taylor at Jazz Blues Fusion by John Mayall - greatest blues fusion record 4me !

  • I sure which I could have seen these guys live with the full original line up! It's as pure and free as blues can be. One of the greatest bands of all time!

  • Pedal boards weren't involved because their effects were overdriven amps or sitting back by or custom wired into heir amps or were rack mounted (pedals weren't in vogue yet). You can also get alot of effects with just a good guitar, great amp, volume knobs and tone knobs.

  • Shit man, I remember hearing this band when I was little played by my dad all the time and I still love it the same, today as I did then!

  • ZZ TOP

  • Henry "The Sunflower" Vestine, you can really rock!!

  • Comment removed

  • it doesn't get any better than this :)

  • i was always too self conscious to do a drum solo. kind of a lost art in this day and age of the 2010's. viva fito y bonham

  • drum solos. a lost art. as a former rock drummer i would be too self conscious. but i recko i could bang out some good shit haha.

  • Don't compare, people; just, you know, listen

  • @rynosoft Of course Dude. But Here You can get some... magic. U know.

  • Damnit, my headphones ain't loud enough!!

  • thank you for posting this !!!!

  • Fito de la Para kicks ass

  • Anyone knows how Henry Vestine got his SOUND? What kind of amp, gear etc. he used? Been dying to find the answer for years

  • @valois89 It's in The Sunflower's hand.......I can't find any information from his gear on the net. The Gibson Les Paul is the standard point. But the amps, and stompboxes.....I think he didn't use stompboxes......crank his amp and rock and roll!

  • @zzfanhun

Those are true words, without a doubt. I was also thinking about trying to imitate that sweet buzz (especially the one he got on 'Fried Hockey Boogey', it's not a fuzzbox, right?) and see if it would work somehow with a harmonica. But yeah, couldn't find anything on the net as well. BTW Did he play solely on a Les Paul?

  • @valois89 I think, Henry didn't used stompboxes........just crank his amp to the top, and played his best.

And I think, he played his iconic black les paul all time. But Im not sure.....

  • @valois89 Sounds like a lot of reverb, tremolo, and a really dry Fender tone.

  • Sounds like ZZ top

  • @madmonkeymcnite no, zz top sounds like it

  • Wow that drum solo puts joey jordison to shame!!

  • @KirkTheGod Joey Jordison sucks anyway.

  • And everyone is quiet and jaws drop as The Sunflower steps to centre stage!

  • xox bob and alan we miss you so much

  • THIS IS MUSIC!!!!! TODAY IS JUST LOUD ELECTRONIC JUNK!!!!!! DON'T REMEMBER, BUT IF NOT THIS GROUP SHOULD BE IN THE R & R HALL OF FAME. I REMEBER WATCHING THEM AT WOODSTOCK .

  • how can these people be sitting still listening to this

  • wooooooooooooooooooooow the sunflower is a god

  • holy crap ! now that is music !!!!

  • This is incredible, the raspy vocals, the beat, the guitar work, the drum solo at the end, that damn bass! Insanely underated performance in my opinion!

  • @jlhyz2

Hey. I checked Your channel. Your playin is sooo good. Keep rocking!

  • legyökereztem -)))))))))))

  • @bullogh Egyik legjobb felvétel ez a Montreaux-i......bár Alan Wilson-t hiányolom. Üdv!

  • @zzfanhun Télleg! Alan Wilsonnal mégjobb lehetett volna! :)

  • @bullogh az biztos! Hiányzik az érdekes hangja.....:)

  • yelp the Owl is gone by the taping of this song here ....RIP Blind Al Wilson

  • stuff !

  • is blind owl dead by the time of this performance?

  • @candide777 yes

  • yelp the Owl is gone by the taping of this song here ....RIP Blind Al Wilson

  • What a great drum solo! Just perfect!

Wait, I mean what a GREAT song...

    and dont forget to boogie....boogie

  • amo a estos chicos desde nicaragua

  • I want The Bears beard as a blanket.

  • Hoot! Hoot! Let's Boogie Woogie!

  • thats music!Thank you for posting:-)

  • I challenge anyone to keep up with the pulsing beat for as long as some of these badass songs they play they are truely awesome I seen them live in 1969 at Woodstock and they were and still are awesome period

  • @bills8in

    lucky you man!

    nice band, and awsome rithm!

  • Shake and Boogie on the road again !

  • Kids, you see any pedals, let alone pedal boards, on that stage? No, you don't....

  • @whitefeet1 they dont get it brother. today they seek visual entertainers then prop their musicaly untalented asses up with computers etc. must suck to live like a vagina. remember m8 dont run with scissors, and allways wear your seat belt. cheers!

  • @whitefeet1 Ain't nothin' wrong with a bunch of guitar effects, as long as you ain't soundin' like 600 other players out there

  • @whitefeet1 no but you hear a killer tube amp.

  • กากไอ่สัส

  • Bob hite Vocals, Brother Richard Bass , Henry Vestine Guitar, Joel scott Hill, guitar and Fito de la Parra, Drums. Brilliant !!!

  • @lovelyflares No man, that´s James Shane on rythm guitar! Still brilliant!

  • @lovelyflares And not a pair of spectacles in sight.Odd when you consider how much plank spanking is going on!

  • who the fuck are the 3 dumpshit?!

  • damn thats good !!

  • das geht in die beine, da wird einiges in mir wach

  • Unfortunately Bob Hite and Alan Wilson are not there anymore...

  • Untortunately Alan Wilson and Bog Hite are not there anymore....

  • @hgf1444

Yes, I'm young... and a bastard... and I like old music... and think that new music is shit (note, not "the shit" but just "shit").

That pretty much sums me up!

  • @hgf1444 il n'y a pas de comparaison à faire entre les 2 époque juste apprécier le bon rock.

il y en a meme dans les années 2000

  • rock never die..

  • The Bear- Pan Wyjebka

  • Seldom have I ever seen a bass player jammin' AWESOME love the vid, thanks for posting, but I miss blind owl, but the bear can wail and play the blues like no other

  • I don't know... To me Canned Heat is, Allan, Bob, Henry, Fito and Larry. All the different (and often ill-fated) lineups adds little new (if anything) to the spirit of the original CH. With exception of the Woodstock lineups with Harvey Mandell standing in for Henry Vestine. I am really into the blues and of course the early Canned Heat, and I really want to like this, but the performance seems a little forced. Canned Heat was something quite unique, but today nothing more than a name IMHO.

  • @JoeLeer nah, this is still awesome, The Bear is still alive here, after he died-----> imo Canned Heat was dead and still is....

  • @Mynxor Well i agree with you to a certain degree - The Bear truely was a great bluessinger, but it becomes clear that CH has seen better days if you compare this to the Woodstock performance or to Live at the Topanga Coral (Not sure about the spelling). Those performances are some of the best they've ever done. This seems more like a good coverband that tries a little too hard. Normally i really like the Sunflowers guitarworks, but here at times it seems out of place, and a little noisy.

  • 3:12 love when the Bear looks back at Henry just as he starts wailing on his guitar. Killer solo by Vestine!

  • Whitemen with rythm & Soul , AWESOME!

  • Looks like 3 folks can't Shake and don't like to Boogie. That's cool, just send your wife on in we'll take it from there. hehehe.....

  • sounds like zz top borrowed this riff......

  • @MrManonthemoon69 You are correct. But everyone borrowed it from John Lee Hooker. ZZ Top got sued for "Borrowing" the song LaGrange. JLH recorder a few things with Canned Heat also. This is Boogie and the King of Boogie was John Lee Hooker!!! And John Lee Hooker liked Canned Heat a great deal!!!

  • @MrManonthemoon69 They did. And most of the song "LaGrange" which cost them some money in a law suit as I remember. Long life Boogie! John Lee Hooker and Canned Heat were the best!

  • @birdmanphil4 Hey thanks for the info man. Didn't know that ZZ Top got sued for their song. Well Thanks anyways and I think Imma start listenin to more john lee hooker. :)

  • OMG Henry Vestine just killed everyone who ever played guitar

  • One of the greatest bands ever! Why is it every music vid on YT has some dick posting "the band shoulda used this amp.... " Or "he should have played this other guitar..."?like they freaking know anything about music or what sound the band wanted. Canned Heat is a legendary band are you who... Some anonymous lump? Go back to stocking your selves at Fred's and let Canned Heat boogie!

  • I always wondered how is it possible to be soooo far out and -at the very same time- soooo fucking Cool !! This band is REALLY ONE OF A KIND.

How can be "cool" a stoned fat man who looses his pants!!?? Easy answer: Being BOB HITE!!

And 1 more thing: I had the privilege of meeting some of them and they are exactly as far out & as cool in real life as in the records and the stage.

  • @apataye most of the cool guys died a long time ago ^^ Alan Wilson, Bob Hite ^^

  • @Mynxor And The Sunflower too.

  • haha he sticked his cigarette on top of his guitar :D 3:28

  • @bassist1900 Zappa? jajajaj

  • Canned Heat '75-'76: The late Bob Hite / vocals & guitar, the late Henry Vestine / guitar, the late Richard Hite / bass, James Shane / guitar, Fito De La Parra / drums, Ed Beyer / organ. (missing: Clifford Solomon / tenor sax) The camera lens is distorted: Bob & Richard actually look thin here, (something they never were), & the blonde "Fender Bassman" Henry's using, (2-12"speakers), looks like a "Fender Tremelux" (2-10"spkrs).

  • @lazur1 I guess it's Bob's Tremeiux, just got to the part where Henry turns up that big "Acoustic" amp. Too bad, he'd sound a lot better through the Fender.

  • awesome

  • komatara 5/5

It is incredible that after so many concerts that were together, Bob will put goose bumps when Henry goes to acute at 6:21, drops his pants and everything,

  • Buzz a little bit Henry.

  • Cant stop listening it

  • hell yeaaaaaaaaah!!!!!! rocking feeling 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!! and even more!!

  • Woohoooooooo, let's rock!!!!

  • The blues. Recognize, y'all.

  • The Bear's younger brother, Richard Hite, on bass. Funny, Bob Hite played trumpet in my high school band.

  • The Bear's younger brother, Richard Hite, on bass.

  • the bear is really digging that bass solo.

  • Fito kills this.

  • these guys can blow steve vai out of their arses! and they can boogie aswell.

  • @bluescountryfolk steve vai is a boring pretentious douchebag ^_____^

  • @bluescountryfolk While I agree with your boogie assessment, I'd guess that Vai and his band could play this just as well if they wanted.

  • Comment removed

  • nice bass riff

  • Guitar solo around 4:30 is fucking sick!

  • @Ricepatch1 That last joint was just kicking in good ..got your super stone ready LOL LOL .......Have a nice day...

  • THANK GOD YOU R MEXICAN FITO. YOU THE ONLY ONE TOGETHER WITH THE BLIND OWL "RIP" U GUYS R THE BEST OF THE BAND

  • BIG UP CANNED HEAT!!!!!

  • heroin!

  • incredible, inspiring , to say it in German - oberaffengeil !!!!!!!!!!

  • This shows where ZZ Top found a good portion lot of their lifetime genre (shtick).

Even has a rare bass solo, demonstrating why they should remain rare...

  • truckin song. yiiihaaaaaaa

  • Sorry for the double post but is the line up of:

    Bob Hite -Vox

    Rich Hite-Bass

    Henry Vestine-Guitar

    Fito de la Parra- Drums

    James Shane-Guitar

    Ed Beyer-Keyboard

    ?

  • Henry Vestine. No wonder Zappa kicked him out, he was ahead of their time.

  • Bass is unbelievable :D

  • aaaaaaaaaaaah the drumsolo cut offfffffff!

  • bout seven minutes in during the guitar solo it starts to sound like junior kimbrough or the black keys. Pretty sad the song gets cut off.

  • killin on the bass

  • this is probably the best vid of henry the sunflower.wish there were some as good with the owl.

  • muy bueno ese baterista mexicano. :)

  • The intro seems like La Grange!

  • @TeoGibson Yeah it does but canned heat were doing that riff before ZZ Top and I believe John Lee Hooker was doing it before Canned Heat

  • @zzqqwwer in everyone's defense, you cant play in open A tuning and NOT play that riff! haha

  • ZZ Top ripped it oh yeah

  • Love me some Bear!! man, our music in the 60's was the bomb!!!

  • When the musicians can play....Henry Vestine my hero!

  • who's on bass here? he rocks!
