  • And what i completely can't understand is why people hate on requiem.

    Just because it lacks monsters?

Requiem is not just a story's end, its the last step in Philip's road into madness. Requiem's music is trasformic, the logic of things happening around is completely lost.

There are no monsters, but the atmosphere is going completely wild. Even worse than it was with Clarence sitting inside protagonist' head. Scary enough.

It is the shortest game: only 3 hours, but my head feels raped now...

  • Red, what have I done...

  • I lived in washington for 9 years

  • I moved from washington to minnesota a few days ago and I listened to this when we were flying above of washington and montana

  • BEST GAME EVER!!!!

  • Amnesia may be scarier, but there's just something about Penumbra which makes me love it more.

  • @Lucap1000 I know right? Amnesia is scarier because the HPL engine had evolved, but IMO penumbra has a better story.

  • Można przy tym śmiało świnie zarzynać xD

  • My favorite theme from any game.

  • Game scared me 'cause I could never kill the dogs. I hit them with the hammer 100000 times and they just never died! Lol!!! Fucking things.

Then the fucking Rockworm made me die. Black Plague one was even worse on the mental puzzles hahahaha... I played Black Plague first, so I'd never seen it before, just something smashing down the door. Then I turned around and suddenly WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This coming from someone who isn't scared of Amnesia at all and is a horror fan.

  • Penumbra is one of the games that feel isolated when your playing it. I love those games :) Which is why I love the penumbra series, most of valves games, and the fallout series... It's like a lonely world, so distant. Yet so close...

  • Agreed. A great game, but it was easy to kill the dogs with the pickaxe. Now Black Plague on the other hand was pretty scary. (BY FAR, the worst part was at the kennels. Dear god that reminded me of the original " TheThing" in a bad way.

  • @SparklesRich YES, the kennel part reminded me of "The Thing" aswell!

Even when I first heard I had to go to the kennels I thought: "Oh shit, now there's going to be a dog mutant, isn't there?"

I love how you couldn't see the monster, made it much more scary.

  • In amnesia Im stuck at the part where you have to repair the elevator.

I got the two rods, Then a Bunch of Monsters came out and i barely Made it out alive. Now im kinda scared to go down there. -_-

  • @MrCrazyian123 Two rods are deep within the storage, the last rod is in study.

Break the window, leap over to the room and there it will be.

The machine room key is behind a painting in the guest room, in the machine room you will need the three rods, three parts of coal, and three cogwheels to activate the elevator.

Do you have all drill parts yet?

They are important later on when you get to the morgue.

  • @paddymoep Thanks for the help! :)

  • @MrCrazyian123 Thats Nice. (:

Considering This Is A PENUMBRA Video, A Few People Would Like If You Could Put AMNESIA Comments On AMNESIA Videos.

Oh, And If You Need To Get Away From The Gatherers, Take Something To Throw At Them. :D

  • Jesus! it's God music!

  • This game got right into my fear of dying alone. Poor Philip, trapped in a abandoned mine, far away from civilization, and no-one knowing where he is...

  • "If we are lucky, then by the time you recive this I will be dead. If fate frowns, we all perish." Everytime i start up the Penumbra games, that line gives me chills.

  • Baixe Agora em Torrent Pc download Penumbra Overture /watch?v=WuoU_5TTgiA

  • pt 2.

The problem with a lot of horror games, the Dead Space series being one of them, is that they put too much focus on simply being scary, neglecting pretty much everything else. The result is a gazillion scripted "scares" in a hollow world with hollow characters. In this end this backfires: a non-immersive world cannot be scary. Overture isn't just scary when you're being chased, it manages to immerse the player so well that you're terrified all the time.

  • @GamblerJustice Great comment my good man! Not long ago I was trying to find some horror games. First I tried the overrated Dead Space. Decent linear shooter but not scary at all and the mood was quite lost. Then I tried Cryostasis which was a great game with good story and atmosphere but the horror relied on crappy scares which didn't evoke any fear at all. Otherwise a great game.

Then Frictional Games gave relief in form of Amnesia and Penumbra-series. They filled my "horror-game void".

  • @Empowerless Hey have you ever Tried Eternal Darkness? That game made me almost shit my pants!

  • @GamblerJustice exactly, cause every second you're like "SHIT, what the fuck was that noise! and oh god! whats behind that corner!" scares me shitless every time

  • What I like about Overture is that it's not just a good horror game. It also features an interesting story, one of the most well-written characters in videogame history (Red), as well as some very innovative puzzles that don't underestimate the player. The game is a horror-game in the same way that Half-Life is a shooter: it doesn't make the mistake of focusing merely on satisfying the genre criterions, rather it makes use of the genre to weave an intricate story and an amazing experience.

  • Love this game, love the music! Though I just realized how similar the music is to the theme in "Enemy of the State" by Hans Zimmer. Seriously, they're the exact same, they're even both in piano! But after that part, they are very different and both awesome in their own ways. Love it!

  • Really sad, this theme.

    Fits perfectly.

  • great song

    reminds me of Silent Hill

  • Really deep, emotional music.

Any people looking for another good horror game: Amnesia, from the creator of this game, it's like 100x scarier D:

(i haven't dared to play it lately, i played it for like 2 hours, and i own it for 6 months.)

  • @mees462 Yeah frictional games is awesome.I have played all the penumbras and Amnesia.

  • I remember that typing on the beginning of the screen my mom thought i was talking to a pedophile lmaoo.

  • I want to learn this song on piano:/

  • Im so frustrated that I dont got the nerves to play this game.

  • Listen To This Music At Night...Alone In Some Place Alone...

  • @IvanVGBaez Type... In All Capitals... :)

  • "If we are lucky, then by the time you read this, I will be dead.

If fate frowns, we all perish."

  • @aquapendulum My favorite.

  • amneia is scaryer!

  • This song makes me wanna kill people

  • Sad stuff.

  • I've never been so affected by a video-game theme like this one, I love it. It has given me the chills from the first time i started to play it. And It has also inspired me to make my own short-horror games in general. Frictional games have mastered the survival-horror genre in this generation of video games.

They know what real fear is about, and they learn from their "mistakes". The Penumbra series was a god-sent gift to us all. And they perfected it into Amnesa:The Dark Descent. Go play it

  • @yoshuayoshua This is exactly what I feel.

  • @xB4LL50F5T33Lx Nice triple-commenting

  • @Majskolvenz It is nice,isnt it?

  • Some of the puzzle like the morse code one I dislike; any1 remember that water solution puzzle from resident evil 3? That was a pain in the ass sound base puzzle!>:(

  • Was this song playing Norman Jayden in Heavy Rain? Srry for my English

  • In my opinion the scariest part of the game was the UV light part.. looking around that room.. saw dat light switch flipped it on... fucking music scared the shit out of me.. the blue light and white words were creepy enough

  • penumbra had something special... ive played horror games like silent hill(1-4), resident evil (4) , F.E.A.R. (1-2) but still... Penumbra was the scariest... bechause you cant defeat yourself and it gives you that horror felling... you must run, hide, and solve puzzels! i love that...

  • Thanks for this.

  • I have a really hard time playing Black Plague, for sure. That game seriously scares the living hell out of me.

  • This is a creepy but brilliant song.. as terrifying as this game is, the main theme is beautifully chilling.

  • Beautiful theme.

  • I gotta admit, Overture stopped being scary as soon as I found out that I could kill the enemies easily. Mixed with the fact that there weren't many enemies in it, it stopped being scary about an hour and a half in. Although I gotta admit, the fucking rockworm scared the hell outta me.

Not to say it's a bad game. Better than most shit coming out these days.

Penumbra Black Plague on the other hand, I can't play for more than 10 minutes at a time. They knew what they were doing when they...

  • ...removed weapons from the game. Makes it that much scarier. Combined with the fact that it's no longer big spiders and undead dogs, it's FUCKING HUMANOID ALIEN-ZOMBIE THINGS.

  • Naked zombies with severed dicks are really scarier, indeed.

  • @Ganerumo the scariest part on the game are not the zoombies it self, but the hole atmosphere, the sounds, the environments, and the constant tension. Have you ever played it?

  • @gothikgamer : Played and finished ;)

The game would have been way scarier if they were more antagonists than simple zombies, because it would have forced the player to adapt his gameplay to the enemies, eg : dogs = hide because they are faster than you, zombies = run like hel because they are slow, spiders = create light sources because they stay away from these. Personally I found the atmosphere stopped being scary when zombies just stopped appearing.

  • Agreed. But the end of Overture...oh my gosh. I was playing it at night with the lights off and then the ending sequence came...I was so effing scared.

  • >stepstepstepSTEPSTEPSTEP

    >lights shut off

    >smack

    That part made me jump.

  • I spasmed. :)

  • Black Plague was scary as fuck. Also, it was completely awesome. I wish I could play these again, but I already know how to solve the puzzles >:[

  • Yeah, unfortunately it's a one-time experience kinda thing. I do replay it on occasion for friends, though, but the scare factor is gone because I know what happens.

  • @culmor30 nothing a few bangs to the head, a bottle of jack daniel a day for those brain cells, and maybe a some hash to make a clean mind :D

  • @HelloHalo117 Overture got me a few times. First was the enemy encounter, then spiders got me, and then the worms. Also the banging of the doors and everything got me. But it was easy to get over. Black Plague keeps making me not play but have too.

  • @HelloHalo117 I found a glitch in one level, There are these pipes on the wall and you can stand on them and the dogs cant hurt you but you can hurt them so you can just do that to get rid of all enemies in the level.

The level is when you first meet Red.

  • @MrCrazyian123 This is not a glitch, but simply abusable.

After you strike a dog down, he will practically be dead. Too bad they respawn and run off to call over their dog buddies.

It's actually safer to hit them from above, while standing on a box.

Overture gives you the possibility to kill enemies ( dynamite for spider genocide ), but i prefer to play without killing enemies, so it's more stealthy and more like black plague/amnesia. Beef jerkey will be of use, at last.

  • @paddymoep If there's an oxygen tank nearby, it's also great to time it.

  • @HerGuardianAngel1991 Works most of the time when you throw beef jerky right next to the tank.

Depending on the hardness, you could take down up to three dogs this way.

  • @HelloHalo117 For some reason, When the Monsters say "Who are you?" I lol'ed.

  • Ah, a total cult classic. Scarier than Silent Hill. And yet Black Plague is like 6 times as scary as Overture. But they will both make you shit yourself.

  • at the image with the coffin...in the back there is the face of death..its a skull do you see it?

  • i dont see it but i will try it.

  • get the game and you will see it with gamma 2.0 or higher man trust me

  • when u have the game. just find the music files to Penumbra and use a program to make it over to a music file ur computer can play

  • Precisely... ;-)

  • Where did you get the soundtrack?

  • this game is the best ever. its not like all others ''horror'' games where u only shoot and like that, penumbra is much better that all other horror games

    Penumbra<3

  • Oh yes. Horror is not about having the firepower to mow down hordes of ugly beasts. Horror is running and hiding, hoping whatever you heard around the corner was just your imagination unraveling your mind like confetti.

I seriously had to forcequit the game earlier in terror. And I'm only halfway through the game, too.

  • Well said - the both of you... :-)

  • @MikuMech in overture once i had the pick i was killing everything i saw.

  • @MikuMech I finished this and black plague, working on requiem now

  • @MikuMech Lol im in the room where u just fell down the ladder and im already getting the change of underwear ...

  • @MikuMech I know it's late, but if you think this is horror - and it is, oh god pure deathly horror - then wait until you get a hold of Amnesia. Made by the same company, same engine, but dear god...that game will kill me. If I'm not dead yet from it's hard, reality-like world that they've sucked me into. Amnesia...that game goes into the darkest corners of the human mind, when the true horror begins.

  • @MikuMech You are 100% right, i had problems with completing the game too.. same problem with amnesia... i still wonder how these games are so underrated or is it just that people who play dead space and F.e.a.r.'s and say they are scary games are just so fucking dumb and so scared of these games? yea i understand them, but this is the true horror, those two i mentioned are just a pile of shit that cannot be called horror.

  • Haunting.

This is the only game to genuinely scare the shit out of me. Seriously.

  • Nevermind, I stand corrected.

Penumbra Black Plague scared even more shit out of me then Overture.

  • I got so fucking scared sometimes I wanted to stop playing.

  • Oh yes, and there aren't many games I can say actually made me did that.

  • It is so emotional and the piano is fantastic

  • Seconded. :-)

  • @CrysisDominator Thirded

  • @CrysisDominator sometimes i just stayed on the menu to listen it..

  • It's so emotional and i love the piano

  • Muito bom!
