This dog is not in pain. If the dog was whining, hiding, shaking its head, or putting its ears back, then we would know the dog is in pain. I am in school to become a vet. This dog is howling which is not a sign of pain. Howling is a way of communicating or locating. In this case the dog is howling to locate the sound. Yes dogs have sensitive ears, but most of the deafening sounds to dogs are sounds in which humans can not hear.
