  • The best adaptation, but i regret that they make the final so american. :(

  • Gerard Depardieu is a very great actor. Monte-cristo, misérables... He's very good.

  • Thank you for uploading this version of the novel. It is very good!

  • Wonderful!

  • Awesome there is no word for this.

  • Of course this is far superior to the 2002 film. The americans have no idea how to make "period" films, they are always modern characters dressed up in old costumes, not in the slightest way convincing. This is wonderful, the sense of period perfect.

  • This version was the best yet i've seen. Si yu'us ma'asi (Thank you) for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks uploader

  • Definitely the best adaptation. The book is the best I've ever read that I didin't even think I'd like this - but I did (I hated all the movies). But still, why do they always change the ending?!? I LOVED the book and especially its ending...

  • The cast is superb, and I don't mean it only for the magnificent Depardieu-Rochefort-Arditi-Aumont quartet. Look at Heloïse de Villefort and Hermine Danglars, the actresses really match the mastery with which Dumas depicted the two characters. I also liked the minor characters, as the policeman investigating on Edmond at Villefort's request or the doctor accusing Valetine of being a murderer. And of course, the actress playing Haydée, perfect.

  • Best filmed version. Not as good as the book, but pretty close.

  • Amazing, thank you soooo sooo much loved it...so enjoyed it, im going to now buy it on Amazon..Merci Beaucoup...

  • Thank you for sharing this great version. Absolutely super!!

  • I wish he stayed with Camille... but still, the best Monte Cristo film!

  • beautiful, best version, best music

  • Merci. Vraiment excellent !

You may call yourself a real Teacher.

  • Oh yeah. I would miss Bertuccio!! :D

  • DAMN What a movie! That's what I'm talking about. If only the 2002 version was like this I would watch over and over again hehe! I mean Jim Caviezel was there, Richard Harris many others. If they were on this it would have been much better. MUCH BETTER! At least the women here are delicious if you know what I mean :D Thanks for uploading this lector! I haven't read the book but this one is enough. :)

  • Does he marry Haydee at the end of this miniseries? Because he does in the book.

  • @al1936ful in this version they mention that epinay (the guy that was originally going to marry valentine) was very "taken" by haydee

  • Quelle histoire passionnante !

  • Thank you. Probably best film rendition to the books (despite all inaccuracies;)).

  • thank you.

  • Very very nice, pitty is that the first episode isnt totaly visible,1 section is missing betwen part 7 and part 8 of it

  • another thanks to you lector0003!!! what an enjoyment! and thanks again to darling dumas....

  • Great movie, even greater book. Thank you

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS!!

so much better then the American film which was horrible !

    thanks again!

  • Thank you so to have downloaded this full videos of "le Comte de Monte Cristo". I'm french. And I remember, when this version It was broadcast on TV in TF1 Chanel in 1998. ThisJosé Dayan film made a very large audience. I've got the VHS collector, but i can't read it more, because I haven't VHS vidéoK7 player. And I didn't found the DVD. Then, I enjoyed to see this film in integral version on Youtube. Thank you so mutch!

    Friendly!

  • sexy time in the sea XD

  • Thank you lector0003! I saw this as a mini-serie in Amsterdam two years after movie was made. It was awesome and never got it. Thank you for the "Original" Le Comte de Monte Cristo. It's much, much more than fighting with swords!!!

  • Epic release

  • It was good and had many many parts that the 02 version did not have(have to remb that it is a 1,500 page book). And the story stayed the same until the end. The ending is not the same as the book.

  • Of course it's better. It's got Gerard Depardieu taking off his shirt and smiling and kissing the chick on the beach. It's wonderful. And much clearer than the VHS version I borrowed from the library. Love the clear subtitles with large font.

  • Holy crap, just watched all of em straight on and didn't even feel long. Excellent stuff, thanks a million for uploading!

  • Thanks, mate!

  • i don't think gerard despardieu was suitable for edmond dantes, it could've been much better should they have chosen a different actor..

    but still, its good!

  • Best Le comte de Monte Cristo ever! 2002 version is crap compared to this.

  • My favourite is still Bertuccio!

  • The only thing I like better about the 2002 movie is that it shows much more about Faria's influence on Dantes, which I think is vital to understanding the character.

  • wat better than the 2002 versio ive read the whole book and this is the same.

  • Like the end even if not faithful to the novel. When i saw the movie for the first time, with another actor,i really hoped Mercédés would go back with Edmond, but she didn't.In the book she' thinks she doesn't deserve to be loved ,and thinks she's ugly and is too unhappy too,too heartbroken.Sad end in the novel, even if good end for Edmond. But i wished edmond and mercédés loved again.

  • LECTOR0003! Thank you very much. I download this whole thing. Took some time.

But I did it. Thank you again.

  • Thank you so much! I remember watching this as a kid, it feels great after a while.. I can't thank you enough! This version is the best one so far, maybe a remake some time soon? Fingers crossed

  • Thank's so much for posting this ! I loved it when I was a child.

Now I'm finally reading the book, well i'm much much much better! The sad thing with this adaptation is that TF1 (production) mostly wanned to get all the "big" french actors of the moment. They are kinda over playing it I think, especially Depardieu (which is his way of acting) when the Dantes in the book is much much more dark, clam, and really thin (I'd have chosen someone more like Ralf Fiennes to play the part).

    Mon avis !

  • Merci beaucoup! This was awesome!!!

  • best movie based on thebook, so far

    thank you for UD

  • Thanks for uploading. Great version

  • Thanks a lot for the subtitles lector :) Great movie, the best adaptation imo.

  • E o final v erdadeiro?

  • Thank you so much:) I was looking so long for this Monte Cristo version (with Gérard Depardieu) :):):) From Poland with love;)

  • Saw this when it first came out. Loved it then, and it was great to see it again. Thank you so much for sharing ! Much appreciated. This has to be the best version of the story ever. Gerard was born to play this role - what a great actor. The Hollywood movie was rubbish compared to this. Thanks again.

  • Excellent and emminently enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

  • Le Comte de Monte Christo is an authentic French piece of literature by A.Dumas. The American version of it or English version cannot attain the beauty of this movie due to cultural differences between French and English societies.

  • The comparison between this version and the 2002 one shows what has to be sacrified to press a story into a single movie. To bad such series aren't really for the big screen. On the other hand, a bigger budget might have ruined it.

  • I wanted him to be with the other woman and how come Mercedes didn't get older?

  • JUst one word. Or two: EPIC W-O-W.

  • THANK YOUUU THANK YOUUU THANK YOUUU THANK YOUUU THANK YOUUU... million times thank you... better version.. best performance!!!! Thanks for sharing!!

  • the best movie

  • Thanks for sharing!!! Thank you very much!

  • love this version! saw it once in my french class and fell in love with it! just great

  • Thank you so much for this version, its superb in every way....its the only version that does the original story justice....Gerard Depardieu's performance is subtle and complex as was the character of the count....The works of Alexandre Dumas are as vital today as they were in the past. Again, thank you for the literary and visual feast.

  • Thank you so much for this beautiful and clean post...I saw this years ago on tv and only the episode 4, can you imagine? Now I have spent this rainy day watching this...I is so beautiful and well done, it makes me nostalgic for people who regard each other so tenderly.

    thank you!!!

  • BILLION TIMES BETTER THAN THE 2002 VERSION. THIS IS WHAT U CALL A FILM!!! SOME OF THE, CC..CCRAAP THAT IS JUST SPEWED OUT NOWADAYS IS JUST TO MAKE MONEY.

  • this and the Richard Chamberlain version probably the best film adaptations of - the count of monte cristo.after all that you need a"feel good" ending.

  • MAGNIFIQUE!... merci mille fois pour ce film!

  • BRAVO! very entertaining thank you very much lector0003.

Any idea of how to enjoy more movies such as this one, I mean with the subtitles and all that stuff I am Spanish, I love french but with the English subtitles I couldn't have understood anything so it was very useful.

In addition, I also think this is the best version it's just priceless.

    Thanks

  • Merci beaucoup! I love this story so much! It's wonderful that this movie has most of the details of the book, except one thing, that Edmond married Haydee not Mercedes at the end. Well, I know it sounds nice to have a happily-ever-after ending, but I don't like fairytale!

  • Wonderful!!! captivating, Thanks yo!!

  • Oh! I realy like this adaptation! The others haven`t my favourite characters as Maximilien Morrel and Valentine de Villefort and they by-plot that my favourite, too!!!

Thank you very much for the laying out the film!!!

  • Its better than the 2002 version story wise and acting wise but the character of Edmond Dantès/Monte Cristo lacks the mystique of the novel. In the other movie, the atmosphere was just perfect and really reflected the true nature of Monte Cristo: dark, mysterious and hard to predict. If they had combined that atmosphere with this story and acting, it would be a winner in my book.

Also, isn't he supposed to not care about Mercedes anymore? I don't know, I guess it wasn't a good TV/Movie ending.

  • Merci boucour! Tusen takk! This was broadcasted in Norway when I was a child, and I loved it so much I even read the book - before I was ten. So I'm a bit passionate about the story, and as I watched that outrageous 2002 film I thought: "Oh God, I really hope that I can find the good version to wipe this all out of my mind." And here it was! Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!

  • Merci bien!!! Je pensais je ne le trouverais jamais....

  • I quite like this version, it's way superior to the 2002 one, but why did they change a lot of things, including the end? It drives me mad when finals are changed

  • THANK YOU LECTOR! that was amazing I was reading the book and watching an episode in between ! fabulous! even if this is so different from the book! I love Gerard depardieu

  • Thanks a lot for your broadcasting of this great TV movie.

  • NOOO WHY DID THEY CHANGE THE END?!?! :(

  • @lililuv94 wats the endin? i didnt read the book.

  • @rabinEXPRESSO In the book he ends up w/ Haydee, however in this version she's introduced way to late in the movie to be considered. The way this script was written returning to Mercedes was the best option.

  • Very very beautiful....

  • you're so sweet :), u know the 2002 version is from dumas as well :))

  • he has a gut

  • Merci beaucoup!!!!!!

    Super magnifique...

    :)

  • Merci beaucoup!!!!!!

    Super magnifique...

    :)

  • Wow, Thankkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Great Movie! Merci Lector! :)

  • @greatgentleman ~ no problem. Did you enjoy it? I think it's better than the bewer 2002 version.

  • @lector0003 Oh!! Of coursee!! I think so!!

Gerard Depardieu is fantastic in the role of Montecristo!

There are many differences between the physical description of the character in the book and how Depardieu is characterized to represent the count, but for me it's not really important, because Depardieu has captured perfectly the essence of the Count of Monte Cristo.

    Thanks Lector!!

  • @lector0003 But of course, we talk about 8 hours for this version in 4 episodes, so the treatment is more precise, yet unfaithful to some of the original storylines. The genious-level acting of some actors like Jean Rochefort (the coward Morcerf), Pierre Arditi (the cold-hearted Villefort) or Ornella Muti (Mercèdès) plays a large role in the global quality of this version.

  • Thanks a Lot lector0003. Much Appreciated for all the the uploads.

  • In the true story, camille doesnt exist. Edmond Dantes is also known as Sinbad le marin and at the end, he goes with Haydée for the rest of his life. Haydée is Edmond second chance.

  • mille merci excellente réadaptation

  • ShakespeareHamlet: with such a name i would have thought you would understand such a story, the 2002 version just does not compare, the quality of acting is of no comparison, the story aims to impres elements of action and leaves little for morals. in this amazing edition it coveres practicaly every element, somthing the 2002 one cannot acount for, you surprise me, if you cant find the origonal french dialog and Gerards acting impressive, consider changeing your name...

    many thanks Lector

  • Never seen the whole american 2002 version but I must agree with you, this is a lot better since I saw some parts of the 2002 one. Gerárd is just great.

  • Merci

  • Merci for posting this 16 hour miniseries. I enjoyed it, but there was a scene that I didn't like, and the implied sex scene between The Count and Richardais was so out of place. And the 2002 version, while simplifying the 1462 page novel, is much more entertaining and retains the main themes of the novel.

  • HAHAHAHA BS, that abomination took out Caderousse and Haydee so you're wrong. It sucked! Oh and Lector thanks man :)

  • so what? It retained the central elements of the novel. "To each his own."-Aesop
