  • This is the first I've heard of him since he left the band.

  • @gritnom really? hes got some new good solo songs, indecision and marry me and my favs.

  • Who gives a shit if he parties, he plays good music. If snorting blow has anything to do with how he plays or sings, then let it be.Shit.

  • @Hirokaze, I'd like to say it's been a pleasure debating with you, but alas you remain absurd. My problem is with your assertion that they are "the same" because they're (il)legally "the same". It is a very limiting way to evaluate things that does not put stock in effect or observation, but only in doctrine. Which is weird. Finally, I have condemned no-one. I condemn cocaine. I am not okay with cocaine. I may support one convict and revile another. That is discernment, not hypocrisy.

  • Cocaine's not bad..look at him he must have dropped 40-60 pounds since they first entered mainstream. Moderation is key. You could die if you consumed too many vitamins, but you don't see vitamins being illegal. Don't hate.

  • Depending on how you look at it. Legally, they are identical.

  • Smoking a Joint..Thats one thing...Snortin' When you Have put your Self in The "Limelight"....Fail.

  • @MrVapourtrail71 They're really no different at all. Both are illegal. I'm not sayin' both are bad, only that there is no difference. You can't be okay with illegally using one drug but not be okay with the illegal use of another. That's just hypocritical.

  • @Hirokaze I wouldnt say so,i smoke little weed every now and again and it does less damage than alcohol but if i said i hate heroin as a drug im a hypocrit?

  • @BirthOfEvil Hating a drug is something different entirely. If you condemned the casual use of one illegal substance but embrace the casual use of another, you would be a hypocrite. The amount of damage it does or doesn't do does not matter. The fact is, both are illegal and should be viewed as such. Again, I'm not saying either are right or wrong, I'm just saying they're the same.

  • @Hirokaze Dude, there is a world of difference between cocain and marijuana, don't be a mug.

  • @Hirokaze All right, they are "the same" in the eyes of the law [roughly]. But how limiting for that to be the meaningful criterion! It is not an objective measure. They're not "the same" in any other way - in fact are very different in other meaningful, objective ways. What is gained by narrowing your focus to the one, practically arbitrary way in which they're "the same"? Something being criminal in one political state or another doesn't make it wrong. Something being legal doesn't make it ok.

  • @rashedly Like I said, I'm not saying one is right and one is wrong. All I'm saying is that both are illegal and to embrace one illegal substance and condemn another is hypocritical, because quite simply, it is. If you enjoy an illegal substance, then you should be okay with all illegal substances. I'm not saying you have to like them or have to use them. I'm just saying to be okay with one, you should be okay with all.

  • @Hirokaze Hirokaze, you baffle me. Why is the legality or illegality of a thing your criterion for whether to be okay with it? As though their having in common this one thing is their only significant quality? The quality that concerns me is the effect of the substance. What some state or other decrees as legal or illegal is not my term of "okayness". How absurd. (cont'd)

  • @Hirokaze I am (relatively) "okay" with putting marijuana into my body, or my friends doing so, because of the effects of that substance. I am NOT "okay" with putting cocaine into my body, and I would and do protest my friends doing so [although you're certainly right, I can't tell them what to do, but I can tell them how it affects me] because, once again, of the effects of that substance. How is it hypocritical to "embrace" one substance and condemn another, on the basis of damage or effect?

  • @rashedly You use illegal substance because you enjoy it or because you "need" it (don't tell me marijuana isn't addictive. Addiction is just as much personality as it is chemical). It doesn't matter what that substance is, it's illegal. Why should it be okay for you to use one thing deemed illegal not not okay for another person to use something else which is also illegal. That's all I'm saying. It is hypocritical to use an illegal substance of one short and condemn someone else for (. . .)

  • @Hirokaze doing the same.

  • @Hirokaze What the hell are you talking about i know this is a week later but your comments are ridiculously stupid! "If you enjoy an illegal substance, then you should be okay with all illegal substances"..Seriously??? If you speed while driving even <5 mph your still speeding and breaking the law although the fuzz lets you get away. Now if you were to blow through a red light completely with other traffic moving then your asking for a lot worse concequences. Are you okay with both? Same thing

  • @MidgetHcky What does it matter to you what someone else puts in their body? It's their business and it only effects them. When you do something illegal such as speeding and running red lights, you aren't only endangering yourself, but others as well. Speeding and running red light is not the same as doing or being okay with illegal substances.

  • @rashedly Honestly, I don't think anyone has the right to tell someone else what they can and cannot do with their own body. I don't care if it's drugs, abortion or suicide. That is up to the individual occupying the body.

  • @Hirokaze Why is it hypocritical? Why are the laws that are orchestrated by the powers that be a great equaliser in your mind - everything that is allowed is okay, everything that is not is equally bad? I am okay with putting certain substances in my body, and I am NOT okay with putting certain other substances in my body - and NOT okay with people I care about putting such substances in their bodies. I judge on my own terms and you might consider doing so as well. "illegal" is not objective.

  • I'm going to do a line and smoke a joint in his honor JUST TO PISS OFF PEOPLE WHO THINK HE DID ANYTHING WRONG! Fucking morons.

  • @gtrslinger Winning!!!!

  • Jasonvh, your point has merit, but painting every one of us in the US with a broad stroke is both fallacious and annoying.

  • give the man a break!

he is human (just reminding all you haters)

  • i never knew this happened.

  • At least he didn't die from drugs like a lot of other great musicians did.

  • Damn, his voice sounds great speaking too... Hope his solo music does well.

  • Steve? Steve who? just kidding....

  • Barenaked Ladies will never be the same without you Steve. Everyone is saying otherwise, but I still think that this incident had something to do with you leaving the band.

  • lool this is so fake

  • It's not surprising, drugs can take over anyone, just hope he's still not using. It could be worse however, it could be heroine...

    = (

  • this is the first time i've seen him appear serious..

  • Ha- I like the sweater.:) I am sure his lawyer picked it out for him so he wouldn't appear to be a crazy out-of-control music star. He got a break. Hopefully he can use his fame and considerable talents to send a message that if you're under pressure, and you need escape, don't use illegal drugs. Drink lots of scotch instead.

  • Steve, your a great guy - keep your nose clean (literally) and keep your head high. You made Canada proud with your music and style, and you have a whole country behind you. I hope that after you have got your affairs in order you can get back with the band and keep making great music.

  • i love you steve! you can get out of this!

  • Steve made some awesome music with BNL whether he was doing blow or not, to me he is still the man. he should get his nose clean tho, fo sho!!

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone makes mistakes! You should listen to his interview on Q to hear what he has to say re: leaving the band.

    watch?v=mxoUzbUJonI

  • I will, cheers for the link :)

  • No problem, it's a good interview. I'm a huge BNL fan, and was so sad and disappointed to hear about his drug bust in the summer, and him leaving the band. Either he's a great actor, or he really has learned from his mistakes this past year. Hopefully he can get his priorities straight now that he'll have more time, and focus on his kids and being healthy! I'll miss him in the band, but I realize he has an identity outside of BNL too.

  • So glad he's out of the band! BNL now has a fan back!

  • A productive, law abiding member of society? LMAO! He was busted for drugs! Whatever, Page! He is a disgrace to Canada. He has 3 sons and he should be setting a positive example for them, being a druggie and cheating on your wife isn't setting a positive example.

  • apparently you are unaware that people makes mistakes. also.. its not your life, so get over it.

  • Maybe this is the real reason BNL is now without Steven Page.

  • steve rocks, whatever he does, he will still be my steve :D

  • Love you Steve...have fun...but stay safe.

    Darren and Laura

  • You didn't look healed on the cruise.

why don't you pay attention to your fans instead of your girlfriend that likes to play the slots during the show while you looking for her @ the 2nd show 4rth row

  • Is this guy running for office? He shouldnt have to make a statement like that. I guess if he had a million dollors he'd buy more than "dijon ketchups"...

  • this is irrelevant, i still love him :) and i still love BNL

  • holy fuck people....it's just blow???????/?/

  • Is that's Steve's wife with the black hair?

    ... cuuuute.

  • Actually, no its just his girlfriend but yes she is rather dashing.

  • ooh, I thought I read somewhere that all of the B-Ladies were married.

    That means I have a chance! ;D

  • he used to be married.

  • the brown haired girl he was holding hands with was pretty cute as well. Maybe that's his stepdaughter or something

  • Steve looks great, but that girlfriend -- doesn't look very classy, does she?

  • Get rid of the girlfriend..They will bring you down everytime. Please don't bring her on the ship.

  • I'm kinda disappointed in Steve, but hey - Canada rules and I fully support BNL no matter what :)

  • You Americans piss me off, throwing people in jail for posession of marijuana or cocaine only to f*** them up even more emotionally and have them come out doing even harder drugs to deal with their mental scars from being raped in jail.

America is a F***** up place. You can murder your wife and her friend so long as you can pay the $10,000,000 legal bill but don't you dare do 3 miles over the limit or smoke a joint cuz "WE'LL SEND YOU TO F****** JAIL BHOY!"

    F**K, I LOVE Canada!

  • :) yay!

    lol Canadian here as well,

the rehab route for drug posession and consumption is a lot more powerful then jail

  • I want you to know just how stupid that sounds, Most of us dont give a fuck if your doing coke or smoking pot, we care about meth, sadly people usually do coke then step it up to meth. AND not everyone in jail gets raped, infact not even most. And america isnt a fucked up place or so many people woundn't try to move here. So far as the legal battles, that happens all over the world, I really hope you aren't racist out of stupidity. Maybe you should do some research.

  • I was surprised when I heard about steve, but he's also just human. I think he gave a great statement and he's looking good. so I think he on the up and up

  • Is this real?

  • Nice statement.

Damn, did anyone else notice how much weight he's lost?

  • @BooNube That's cuz of the coke jackass.

  • @TheMightyHeffer

    Wonderful.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, a troll!

  • i feel bad for Steven, this happens every now and then

  • he now looks kinda like Rick Moranis

  • Wow. Steve's gotten kinda hot!

Also...although a little dissapointing its not surprising really about the whole drug thing. He's part of a rock band..I'm sure it's difficult for any major singer to not get caught up in the drug world.

  • lol he's always been hot... even when he had giant sideburns and crazy hair.

  • Poor dude. A good singer, too. Too bad he got caught up in all of this shit

  • Im very happy with this

  • me too.

  • I can't believe this...damn it Steve...

Just keep clean and make some more music...

    What the fuck.

  • Good he's not going to jail, I've been wondering what the next BNL album would sound like without Page. o_O

But, man, Steve, don't do any more drugs!

  • Please dump your Girlfriend she is nothing but trouble.

  • Wait? What happened!?

  • I'm glad this has worked out for Steve and wish him and all involved the very best.

  • None of us are perfect in this life. What shows character is facing up to your mistakes, taking responsibility for them, and making sure they aren't repeated. I think his statement here shows his willingness to do just that, and I continue to support him and wish him the best.

  • Good to see that he has not got jail time. I think that us in the UK are now due some tour dates...

  • amazing is a good thing this dint happen.

  • I am also thrilled of this outcome! Everyone deserves a second chance..Steven Page and the rest of the band has given back over & over to society and to their fans. Steve, thank you so much for being the class act that you are and for taking the time to express your feelings & for being so honest. I am proud to be your fan & your friend! You can count on that forever!! Love, Chante' =)

  • Part two of two: There are many other people who are given a similar second chance if they are deserving of it based on merit. I don't believe his second chance was due to a good lawyer or celebrity, just based on the fact that his is a great guy and an asset to society! Steven, and Christine, you know how I feel about you two. I am honored to know you and be your friend!

    ~Marie

  • Part one of two:Steven and his band mates have have done many great things for others and I am thrilled that he has gotten a second chance! I'm confident that he will not let us down. People are quick to judge, but who in this world is really perfect... none of us. His case got publicity because of who he is (and he is a great musician despite those who posted differently).

  • OMG all of you people are idiots. I am so annoyed by the people in this world that think they are perfect, and so easy to judge a person that they don't have a clue about. I am a huge supporter of this man and the rest of his band. They are the kindest, most accessible band out there, and have done more for this screwed up world than all of you haters combined. SJP, I'm thrilled that you're getting a second chance, and thank you for taking the time to make this statement to the public. ~Lisa

  • Well said. I can't begin to judge a man going through things I've never personally tackled. I know Steven means what he says. He is a good man.

  • @lajohnson73 People who have not made mistakes that are known to everyone are usually critical of people whose problems are exposed to the world. I'm sure if we could dig on the past of the people ho are writing hateful remarks on here; you would find alot of stuff they do not want exposed.

  • Actually, they have made two records in the past 10 years, have still been selling out concerts all over the world for ten years. Lawyers are a great thing yes, but if you look at the incredibly long list of things he has done for society, you would understand that he deserves a good lawyer in this issue.

  • They've made 5 records in the last 10 years:

    2000 - Maroon

    2003 - Everything to Everyone

2006 - Barenaked Ladies Are Me

2006 - Barenaked Ladies Are Men

    2008 - Snacktime

Agreed, he's done some great things for society. He's one of the good ones. People make mistakes, and he deserves this second chance.

  • It's actually six. You forgot Barenaked for the Holidays. =)

Seven if you count Disc One.

Eight if you count Stunt, which was released in 1998...just about 10 years ago =)

And nine if you count iTunes Originals.

Nevertheless, ofcwilson's comment stands...they HAVEN'T made two records in the last 10 years. They've made many more =)

  • How could I forget Holidays? Oops!

    So since Stunt, there's 8....

    2000 - Maroon

    2001 - Disc One

    2003 - Everything to Everyone

2004 - Barenaked for the Holidays

    2006 - iTunes Originals

2006 - Barenaked Ladies Are Me

2006 - Barenaked Ladies Are Men

    2008 - Snacktime

  • They also made an entire CD soundtrack (songs and incidentals) to a stage production of "As You Like It" in 2005. Also, there have been two live CD's released in the stores ("Extended Versions" and "Talk to the Hand").

  • you guys above dont know talent, probably listen to shit music. just saying.

  • must be nice to afford good lawyers... anyone else's bum would be sitting in jail right now.

  • 95% of the population of what? The continent as a whole? Or the narrow-minded United States who thinks they are the centre of the universe, and no other country matters? When you say "hasn't made a record", I'm assuming you mean, hasn't had a #1 hit since 1998's "One Week". Just because they haven't had a #1 hit, doesn't mean they're not still making music. They're still extremely popular in Canada, and have been all along.

  • Why don't you go the fuck away, and take your immature ramblings with you.

  • ahahahahahaha!

  • You are a disgrace to this country, chrisw40. You are one of the lowest, dumbest, dirtiest pieces of scum out there. You give this country a bad name, and we really deserve it because of the likes of you. Shut up.

  • @jasonvh Hey, what about now? in 2011 :S

  • lets celebrate line it up! :)
