  • What model is the guitar in this video.

  • i cannot find this snl skit anywere! ahahaha

  • @Squweesh just search up "Stevie ray vaughan snl"

  • Another great job. I don't think it's too technical. Keep up the good work! Having some tab to look at would make this easier for students. The video format is better for learning technique than what notes to play.

  • Nice.

  • Great lick! But I can't find the SNL vid on YT...?! :-(

  • great lesson but i think you should put a disclaimer not to be so technical about guitar playing. but this does help for ideas

  • @leavittobeaver I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @gr8bluesgtr you are really technical about your licks and how to play them. i was just saying you should encourage people to just have fun with it and do their own thing and not be so technical about how to play a certain thing. and theses vids are a really good reference for making up ideas for your own licks.

  • awesome!!

  • Sick, Anthony... after watching the SNL version, I can't figure out how you deciphered/tabbed that - especially in such low quality from the mid-80's. Amazing work as usual!

  • Anthony, this video is great and I really love what you are doing here on youtube. Keep on rocking!

  • are those still the stock pups? because they got great tone

  • In this video they are the stock pickups.

  • Lick Request.

7:39 from "Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lenny (Live at El Mocambo)" on youtube.

    it's insane. take a look.

  • @galacticox4 knew exactly what lick that was without looking! I agree, it's insane!

  • it is crazy isn't it? i just stare at it and laugh because it's incomprehensible.

  • great lesson man.

i'm surprised my monitor didn't explode from all the uberness in that lick

  • killer tone on that mayor strat mate!!!

  • Kenny Wayne Shepard strat, bro...

  • ahhh yeah KWS racing stripes threw me!!!

  • watch this with captions. it's so hilarious what the automatic captions are. especially around 5:27. then at 5:40 it translates the caption to be "he closes a quick in opens Obama in less about a fifth of liquor opening and closing in and.."

Good tutorial btw. helps me a lot! =)

  • Ah crap, I knew I forgot to do something...I usually turn those off :-)

  • haha its fine man, i just turned on the beta captions on to see how well they worked. and more than anything to see if they showed words for any of the licks. lol. Great stuff man you're a great teacher.

    -B!

  • I still can't believe you did'nt win the Guitar Center King of the Blues contest. Great lesson, great technique great sound.

    Thanks

  • Your hands are huge!

  • @Smooman21 thats what he said

  • Yes!! I wanted to learn this one.

  • Great Lesson

    DDR

  • sjutube, and gr8bluesgtr: thanks. i'd definitely have it set up for heavier strings. i'd want to maintain the action i have.

  • Best Strat tone on Youtube!

  • To the guy asking about string guage, I accidentally deleted your comment. I use .11-.49. Heavier strings, depending on how great a change they are, can affect your action 2 ways. By messing with a floating trem and increasing the pull on the truss rod. I recommend having it setup for heavier strings especially if it is a big change.

  • I just got myself a fender srv signature series strat and it had been recently set up for running it at .11-.49 like yours and Eb...would there be any damage to the guitar if I were to try to run it in standard E tuning with those heavy strings?

  • no man...... all my guitars are set up with 11-49 (D'addario EXL115) and I've been playing for a long time. but now that I've been playing lots of gr8bluesgtr licks and tricks in Eb. for this I'm using 12-54 (EXL145) with a Japaneses tele (thin neck). the tone is awesome and is the best sounding guitar I have. when I play my other guitar with the 11-49 I find it's so much easier to bend string.

  • ight thanks man...yea I'm still just a beginner so I'm new to things that might be common sense to others. I just don't wanna damage my guitar neck lol so once again thanks for the response.

  • @gr8bluesgtr how do you get this tone out of 11's? I just changed back to 11's from ernie ball 12's (not even slinky) and i just cant get my stevie sound anymore.

  • dude your friggin awesome! best stevie obsessed guy on youtube! btw you look like one of the math teachers at my school, mr underwood xD keep it up man

  • @jkh988 string gauge will definitely affect the action. More tension with heavier strings will increase the action. I suggest having someone do a setup if you change string gauge.

  • not always true. for example I have a strat that I usually put 10's on. I found a set of 13 gauge strings and put em on. it was so tight it raised my action like crazy! But I tried the GHS 1300 (same gauges that stevie used) and theyre super fat but really slinky. THey arent tight at all. Theyre super super fat but I could bent a whole step on the g string on the second fret no problem. All depends on the strings you buy.
