@713judas Unfortunately no. Modern comics will never achieve the types of values we see with the golden and silver age comics. Back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, comics were not collected. In most cases, they were read and thrown away, or left somewhere. It was rare to find a person who actually kept them, much like it's rare to find people who collect things like newspapers today. That's why the old books are worth money, there aren't a lot of them in existence.
@713judas Books like this one have thousands of copies that are immediately sealed and saved by collectors, making anything less than a perfect 10 not worth the price on the cover.
There are exceptions, where a title has a sudden and wild following which increases the value of the first several issues. The Walking Dead is a good example, where a #1 is worth around $400 today. But these types of situations are rare, and nearly impossible when it's a mainstream title from Marvel or DC.
@mudbeast21 I don't know. While I like the venom character generally, the Ultimate version was never anything 'more' than the regular version in my eyes. It all got too convoluted with the video game and all...
@mudbeast21 Eddie Brock had lost the Venom symbiote and was doing pretty poorly due to his cancer. Mr. Negative came across him and affected him with his powers, releasing a dormant symbiote within Eddie, making him become Anti-Venom.
Eddie as a character has always been a good/bad guy. He wants to protect the innocent but kills to do so, and hates Spider-Man. With Anti-Venom powers, he seeks to rid the world of Peter Parker's 'infected' blood. :)
thank you for the spoiler alert. i have numbers 159 and 160 here still to be read so even though obviously he dies i kind of want to read in the comic how he goes about doing it.
also , i'm glad i didn't get the other ultimate titles. spiderman is the only one i collect from that line. daredevil is my other marvel comic i really enjoy but i hated the whole recent shadowland arc.
@DryBONESreborn Sorry, I had a lot of story to tell. I'll likely not be retelling the whole story of books in the future, since it takes a lot of time and is a bit silly if people are watching the review after reading the book anyway.
I'll probably still spoil things, as I dont' really want to have to worry about that, but it'll probably be much more focused on how I felt about the book and inconsistencies I find.
@DryBONESreborn And you know, I thought the issue felt really really light when I first picked it up, but it turns out to have as many pages as anything else these days...
of corse this is the week when the guy that runs the comic shop goes on vacation this and carnage 5 and usm 160 comes out the two books i have been following so closely ever since they started (ultimate since the prelude)
i also wanted to say i really love your spidey tat its awesome!
@ComicRichard hanself2011 is right, Someone else will pick up the mantel of 'Spider-Man' in the Ultimate Universe, but Peter Parker will stay dead. :(
@darkrenagadef50 The one at my shop was selling for $20, but I just didn't see the value in it. Modern comics just don't hold their value like they did in the olden days. Everyone keeps their books and takes care of them! Hard to make a profit even after 50 years when there are hundreds if not thousands of copies in the same condition still.
Stuart Inommen was the other artist for the Ultimate Spiderman.
