@MrQuest101 -- It's from the J.R.R. Tolkien universe. Elladan and Elrohir are the twin sons of Elrond of Rivendell, who in turn was the son (one of another set of twins) of the man who appears in the ship at the end -- Earendil the Mariner. Earendil was the son of a mortal Man and an immortal Elf who sailed to Valinor (the land of Tolkien's divine beings) to ask for help in a war against Morgoth (an equivalent of Satan). They agreed to help and set his ship in the sky as a star.
@lordsybren I'm sure they know that. They were showing that Earendil was watching over them, so to speak, from the sky. It was not meant to be either one of the twins. :)
this is good work, great video but just to let you know in total elrond had 3 daughters and one of them was Arwen who is now married to the king of gondor
Thank you so much to everyone who has commented. We set out to make a short animation as it was our first attempt. The music is our own original composition for the film. We are truly humbled and honored at all the positive feedback. Thank you everyone. Toby and Cody :) :)
amazing....i'm quite jealous that you guys can achieve this. I wish i had the time and skills to make these sort of things and tell all the cool stories of Arda.
This is great, it has inspired me to read the entire Tolkien collection, where should I start?
Also, seeing the ship in the heavenly waters I can't help but think of the myth that Noah and his family lived on the earth that was spiritual and during the flood the spiritual earth melded with the material earth so that Noah literally sailed through time and space as the human race fell from original glory. It's an amazing story.
I was searching for mi password 10 minutes or something like that... Only to say that I really love this and deserves a real hug men cause is just beautiful.... Only that...
Well, actually, Ëarendil was a half-elf. His father was Tuor of the Atani (men), his mother was Idril, daughter of Turgon. If I remember correctly, he was the first half-elf. And the sailing the skies forever thing, that's more a payment for his plea being answered (for the Valar to come help Elves and Men fight Morgoth) than a punishment. Also, whoever sees Valinor isn't really fit to live in the mortal world again, for whatever reason.
BRAVO! VERY impressive -- both in terms of the artwork/animation and the music. I rather like your concept of the Black Gate as a series of swiveling panels...and it's refreshing to see someone attempt a depiction of Earendil.
CodyandToby, dudes, you are amazing, the history is great!! I like it very much, very emotive ending, the vision of the sons of Elrond are full of greatness and the end is glorious, congratulations for your work, where and what is the name of that music?
Thank you so much...we composed original music for our fan film. We brought in a friend to sing the elvish vocal lines. It was a lot of fun to create a musical landscape and we hoped fans would enjoy it as well. Thanks for you comments!! :) :)
That was original music! Wow, I am speechless. That was so professionally well done that I mistakened it for the real Howard Shore composition.
Also, the animation is wonderful. I have a twin brother as well and we made a Lord of the Rings animation a few years ago, but it was on a macromedia flash program, so it didn't turn out nearly as well as this.
@TheTemaire Thank you for your comments! Yes, we really appreciate you noticing our original music as we wanted it to be "ours" yet still feel like Mr. Shore's score for the films. You made our day!!
Have you posted your LoTR animation somewhere for us to see? We would love to see it!!
@BrionyTeMeriel It wasn't a punishment. It was a choice that Eärendil and his wife Elwing had to make, since they both were Peredhil, Half-Elves. They couldn't live both mortal and immortal life, so the Valar decided of this fate of choice, and both of them chose to live the life of the firstborn (the Elves). Their sons Elrond and Elros has to choose as well. Elrond chose to be an Elf, and Elros chose to be a Man, though as a gift he received a lifespan of around 400 years.
@Elainiwen no Aragorn did not inheret Elros' 500 year life span. However, due to carefull breeding by the Dunedain of Arnor, the line of the chieftans retained much of their Elrosian nature - including a greater life span than other men. Aragorn was 89 when he was crowned king and lived another 120 years. Thus he was 209 when he died.
The sons of Elrond show up in LoTRO (MMORPG). They have camps in Trollshaws. If you want to see them ask in any LoTRO forums for a high level member to take you there, you can do that in the free trial.
1 last point(mind the french)- WTF was P.Jackson thinking cutting out the £$%&&£$ old man willow, and Tom Bombadil i read the book (well my dad read me the book) when i was 4-5 and i watched the movie when i was 7 i cried when Tom didnt appear and missed a good 15mins of the film because off...grrr
lol i know Asfaloth (if thats how its spelt) is Glorfindels horse, though she didnt just steal that and the thunder, also the water horses. my theory is that to introduce glorfindel into the movie would be paying an actor alot of money to appear for a
10min clip,so just give a major character the part.
That was awesome! Very well done. I was very disappointed that Peter Jackson cut out many of my favourite characters from the film- Elladan and Elrohir, Glorfindel, etc. (damn Arwen, she stole his thunder, and his horse!) Then P.J. had the nads to off poor Haldir T_T
@TheFlyingFilly I think Philippa Boyens said something on the commentary about how it wouldn't have made sense to introduce Glorfindel for just one scene, when Arwen is a major character for the storyline so they needed to make her part bigger. I was gutted when Haldir died too :'(
@TheFlyingFilly Listen to the commentaries on the DVD - they say it would've been totally impractical to introduce a new character (Glorfindel) for only one scene, when Arwen's character needed a lot of expanding to fit her actual role since she's such an important character in the book. I agree that her brothers should've been in, but Tom Bombadil? I definitely don't miss him lol :D
I thought Earendil's boat had no mast. it seems Ill have to read anew Bilbo's poem. Nice video, really. Earendil at the end was really a cerise in the cake.
By the way, is your video based on something real (did Tolkien ever said that Elrond's sons were on Lorien?)
They lived in Rivendell for much of the third age and rode often with the Dúnedain against the orcs.
While the Fellowship stayed in Rivendell for a while (except Aragorn who searched the lands to see if the Nine were still abroad), the sons of Elrond journeyed to Lothlorien via the pass of Caradhras.... So when the fellowship came to Lothlorien, Galadriel and Celeborn had already heard about their Quest.
This is amazing! I know how much work goes into making 3-D animation, I made a spoof video and it took me eight hours a day for two months to make a 2-3 minute movie. This is incredibly beautiful and creative and just so much more...
If you can pull it off to do the story of Numenor justice in animation, I will truly salute you! Please put everything you have in it! :D This vid was already amazing and stands out from any other on youtube, but to put on screen any story of the Silmarillion requires a whole other level :D
Elrond had three children, Arwen of whom we all know, and the twin son Elladan and Elrohir who supposably look so alike even people who knew them had a hard time telling them apart...
Loved the vid, I'v been missing those characters in the movies, but I understand why they cut them out...
Almost all aspects in this movie (animation, compositing) are good, but can be improved. On the other side music is absolutely stunning. I caught myself smiling from ear to ear while watching Earendil scene, which left strong impression on me because of it's thematics but more because of it's excellent music.
Extremely imaginative. Might not fit the LOTR Cannon; but I like it. Very few throught out LOTR Fan films; this so far has been the most imaginative and well put together. Outstanding job.
i really love the music! great job! however i found the animation was a little hard to watch and the story was hard to follow. you should try film this live action 5/5
We composed original music for the film and wrote the song as well. It tells the story of Elladan and Elrohir, the twin sons of Elrond, and their journey through the fourth age of Middle-earth. Translated in English the lyrics read:
Hi, Thanks so much! Yes, our friend Aubrey Serr worked on all the visuals with us while we composed the music. We made a Behind the Scenes video which can be viewed on our website. Hope you enjoy!!!
Thank you! We composed original music for our fan film. The lyrics were written by our sister to serve as the script for the film. She then translated them into the appropriate Elvish language. Upon completion we then brought in a very talented vocalist to sing them over the orchestra. Here is the script:
You really should make this sort of movie but with the battle of Morgoth/Melkor and Fingolfin. That should really be amazing. This movie was fantastic
Wow, amazing video! Very well done. The music is perfect, (I find it kinda funny that you used LOTR music for the Narnia video you made, but not for this one) the effects were beautiful and the story was simple yet entertaining. And perfect choice, too - I don't think Elladan or Elrohir get nearly enough credit.
Hey, thanks!!! The Narnia video was our first project and we didn't have the means to write original music at that time. We wanted The Sons of Elrond to have an original score yet still keep the same texture as the music used in LOTR. Thanks so much for your nice comments!!!
If you can pull it off to do the story of Numenor justice in animation, I will truly salute you! Please put everything you have in it! :D This vid was already amazing and stands out from any other on youtube, but to put on screen any story of the Silmarillion requires a whole other level :D
The Fourth Age of Middle Earth. The Sons of Elrond have stayed behind—their destinies not yet complete. Their journeys have taken them to the forests of Lorien, where they are reminded of victories of the past and the light of their kin, still sailing the skies.
Thank you! We met a really talented guy named Aubrey Serr who worked with us on all the visuals. 3D Studio Max was used for the animation while all the digital paintings were done in Photoshop and later animated in After Effects. We composed the music with Digital Performer using the Vienna Symphonic Library. Check out our YouTube channel for a Behind the Scenes look at the fanfilm.

I just wondered.. Are you aware that Earendil was actually human?
That's why he has to sail the skies in the first place. It's a punishment for having entered Valinor without being invited, so to say.
BrionyTeMeriel 1 year ago
@BrionyTeMeriel
Nope, Manwe told them to choose human or elven fate, and he chose elven fate after his wife did so.
That is said in Silmarillion, but Tolkien commonly had many versions of one story.

I was completely blown away, that was fantastic! Did you animate this? Or do the music? Or both? Amazing. Good work, you two!
DominateEarth 3 years ago 6
Hi, Thanks so much! Yes, our friend Aubrey Serr worked on all the visuals with us while we composed the music. We made a Behind the Scenes video which can be viewed on our website. Hope you enjoy!!!

I was completely taken by this! You did Elladan & Elrohir justice!
Bonus on the music!
Hopes to you and future projects. ;)

Loved it! Very beautiful.
RayneFae 3 years ago 2
Wow! Amazing! You don't hear all that much about Elladan and Elrohir so this is great.
Why not try the story of the Children of Hurin? It's a bit long, I suppose, but it's a great story.
5 stars x

Where did you get the music for this? Do you have the lyrics?
Good job! You should def. pursue a career in animation; well done.
p4c147 3 years ago
Thank you! We composed original music for our fan film. The lyrics were written by our sister to serve as the script for the film. She then translated them into the appropriate Elvish language. Upon completion we then brought in a very talented vocalist to sing them over the orchestra. Here is the script:
Twins,
Behold! A star shines
On wings soft as the wind
From the great Sea
Out of the Heavens
On behalf of us
Unto the ending of the world
Hail Earendil brightest of the stars!
CodyandToby 3 years ago
cool! didnt know your sis wrote the lyrics! she must be very talented as well! ever thought about featuring her in one of your works?
boomrsoonrupinyoze 2 years ago
You really should make this sort of movie but with the battle of Morgoth/Melkor and Fingolfin. That should really be amazing. This movie was fantastic

Yes, that would be awesome! Hopefully, we can do more. Thanks for the comment!

We wrote original music for the film so thank you for noticing!!
CodyandToby 3 years ago
Wow, amazing video! Very well done. The music is perfect, (I find it kinda funny that you used LOTR music for the Narnia video you made, but not for this one) the effects were beautiful and the story was simple yet entertaining. And perfect choice, too - I don't think Elladan or Elrohir get nearly enough credit.
WhuttaNerd 3 years ago 2
Hey, thanks!!! The Narnia video was our first project and we didn't have the means to write original music at that time. We wanted The Sons of Elrond to have an original score yet still keep the same texture as the music used in LOTR. Thanks so much for your nice comments!!!
CodyandToby 3 years ago
I'm just teasing - the music was perfect in both videos.

that was so amazing!!!!

Very well done! Is the elf sailing the sky supposed to be Earendil in his ship vingilot?
Kimey8797 3 years ago
Yes, that is Earendil sailing the skies over Middle-earth keeping watch and we're so happy you noticed!!!
CodyandToby 3 years ago
then i got to hand it to you, great job once again. You haven't thought of making something about the Silmarillion? That would be so cool.
Kimey8797 3 years ago 3
We started working on something for Numenor and had to put it on hold for awhile. Keep you posted. Thanks!
CodyandToby 3 years ago
If you can pull it off to do the story of Numenor justice in animation, I will truly salute you! Please put everything you have in it! :D This vid was already amazing and stands out from any other on youtube, but to put on screen any story of the Silmarillion requires a whole other level :D

WHat's the story behind this?
Icebend28 3 years ago
The Fourth Age of Middle Earth. The Sons of Elrond have stayed behind—their destinies not yet complete. Their journeys have taken them to the forests of Lorien, where they are reminded of victories of the past and the light of their kin, still sailing the skies.
CodyandToby 3 years ago
well you did a good animation job. what programs did you use.
Icebend28 3 years ago
