@24Abstract ... Indeed this (baroque dance) is the origin of ballet. Louis XIV founded an Academy of Dance in 1661 that codified the balletic positions (1st through 5th) and introduced many of the (still french-named) steps that would later be developed into ballet as we know it.
My absolute favorite of all the excellent performances you've shared on You Tube. Totally stunning, I can't even imagine it danced better than this. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Thank you dear LeBelleDance, I have seen but it seems that the staging is not authentic and it is performed on Vivaldi's version. In the USSR, concerning historical dance, there was not either knowledge or willingness of historical accuracy among choregoraphers or dancers. I need for my students Marais' version. But anyway thank you, your material is invaluable.
I have to agree that the violinist was screechy and out of tune for the whole first 30 seconds. Also, he played the variations in the wrong order and at the wrong tempo, so the dancer deserves even more credit.
When I listened to the first 30 seconds I considered NOT posting this, but it was in answer to a request. But yes...I must agree with you about the violin.
aah que fregón!!!!! :D

This is so beautiful--I am at a loss for words. Posture, air, movement, "complaisance", balance, pause. Do you ever perform in New York?

Thank you clioandeuterpe!
So far we have only performed in Canada, but maybe one day we will be in the States also.
Perhaps with Clio & Euterpe? ;-)

Excuse me dear LaBelleDance for my insolence, have you staged the other variations or only these ones?
stesimbrotus 2 years ago
Only these.
If you check maltizov's page, they have a version that mixes some of the male solo variations with the female.

The body and hand plastics is far better in this performance!

I'm glad you enjoyed. The performer is Melissa Fink of the La Belle Danse Company - a very strong and elegant dancer.
