Like I was saying, if the criminals already know how to avoid tracking by the government (although I'm sure the government has ways of doing things that may not be known), then all this does is open up potential for abuse against normal people (or dumb criminals). However, I would think that any smart organized crime member would be: pulling the battery out of their phone, using "throwaway" prepaid phones (that they would change every so often), having call encryption software and using something to jam transmissions, or some combination of those. I assume there are dumb organized crime members, but if there are ones that are smart enough to know that stuff then this type of technology is only going to affect dumb criminals and normal people.
I think it is somewhat reasonable for this to be done by an authorized government law enforcement agency. Like the video said, it is probably only done for members of organized crime. If wiretapping laws aren't updated to be on the same level as current technology then any criminal could easily just walk around planning organized crime events on a cellphone. Plus, this kind of thing certainly requires a warrant.
You can also put your phone in a mylar potato chip bag or aluminum foil. This will prevent any incoming or outgoing signal.

I was told this same BS when I got my first computer, that people could remotely turn my computer on and copy information from it even after I had shut it down. So I challenged several people who claimed to have knowledge of how to do this, to try it. I never took any extraordinary steps to block them, yet everyone I challenged to do so failed in the attempt. Like I was saying, if the criminals already know how to avoid tracking by the government (although I'm sure the government has ways of doing things that may not be known), then all this does is open up potential for abuse against normal people (or dumb criminals). Don't think that the government will always follow the law exactly: remember the secret NSA server rooms in ATT that recorded communications from millions of ATT users?

However, I would think that any smart organized crime member would be: pulling the battery out of their phone, using "throwaway" prepaid phones (that they would change every so often), having call encryption software and using something to jam transmissions, or some combination of those. I assume there are dumb organized crime members, but if there are ones that are smart enough to know that stuff then this type of technology is only going to affect dumb criminals and normal people.

I think it is somewhat reasonable for this to be done by an authorized government law enforcement agency. Like the video said, it is probably only done for members of organized crime. If wiretapping laws aren't updated to be on the same level as current technology then any criminal could easily just walk around planning organized crime events on a cellphone. Plus, this kind of thing certainly requires a warrant.

This will run down your battery fast, so you recognize your phone was remotely switched on. Ive also seen led´s which can be stuck on a cell phone and light up if it is transmitting. Stick one of these on your phone and you see when its radiating.

There was a case I read about where 3 kids were charged with having ecstacy because the powers that be in the school system were watching them after school in their own house through their turned-off web cam. No shit! It turned out it was Mighy Ike's candy or something like that. Near the beginning of 2010. The Feds can watch everything you're doing through your own webcam, there's nothing wrong with being a bit paranoid and taking precautions.

Sometimes this can be a good thing though. What if the FBI is dealing with a liar who just hides behind his laywer ( trained liar). There have been many cases of criminals who get away with terrible crimes due to manipulating the system so I am not 100% against this. If you are not a criminal you should have nothing to worry about.

I was told this same BS when I got my first computer, that people could remotely turn my computer on and copy information from it even after I had shut it down. So I challenged several people who claimed to have knowledge of how to do this, to try it. I never took any extraordinary steps to block them, yet everyone I challenged to do so failed in the attempt. I have more faith in the idea that the FBI could hear me on a remote sensing directional microphone than getting anything from my cell.
