he's about half right... but, a lot of horror flicks from the 10 years have sucked... Jennifer's Body = piece of shit, Haunting of Molly Hartley = Piece of shit, Wolf Creek... say it with me now!
I somewhat agree, but I also agree that certain movies should not be remade, but that falls into an opinion of what is good. The Hills Have Eyes remake was great, but the original was good too (technically no remade should be made) The Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th remakes were pure shit, the originals were good. Its all opinions. Why is Eli mad here? Is he doing a remake?
Horror films? No, no, no. Go with psychological horror. Cannibal Holocaust, Johnny Got His Gun (film and book), Mum & Dad... Those kinds of films. GREAT films.
That is100% true you see this guys a true fan of horror he appearance the work that goes into it even the sequels to be honest Halloween 2, Halloween 6, H2O and most of the Nightmare movies were pretty good except 5. Fright Night 2 dang that was a good movie and the best Scream movies were 2,1,4 3 was alright.
@TheSuperSayian9000 I personally think Scream 3 is VERY underrated!!! Scream 3 was the PERFECT way to end the original Scream trilogy! Scream 4 had really bad killers! Jill, the bitchy fame-seeking spoiled teen and Charlie, the weak dumb insane horror geek??? REALLY? Nightmare 5 was good
I don't agree. The people who line up to see sequels are the masses (I.E. the Saw series) looking for the latest escapism. There's two kinds of horror fans: The young that want tits and gore (I was like that too) and the older crowd that wants something more sophisticated and unique.
I'm a gay man so I can say this..."Shut the fuck up faggot!" I've seen your films. Gore & torture DOES NOT equate to suspense, atmosphere, dread & foreboding! You're super hot tho so call me!!!
@ChadATL Yeah but his films are at least original. Like cabin fever and hostel. Hostel 2 sucked though. But he does a great job of creating something original and over the top.
@ChadATL It kind of does. Gore and torture does equate to suspense because you never know who's going to be disemboweled next. The atmosphere makes you feel disgusted at the actions on screen. The dread and foreboding is because you are
1. telling in the person in your head not to go into the "scary room"
dudeee i hate how everyone agrees with him on here and then says something shitty about his movies. its like fuckin make up ur mind!!! jesus tits. btw i love all his work his talent is where its supposed to be. stop hatingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
i think he's talented. but in my opinion, he wasted his talent with movies like Hostel. he should make more serious stuff and not those pointless blood-gore-splatter shit.
It's not that we don't give new guys a chance, it's that none of these new guys really do tense, atmospheric horror anymore; it's all SLASHIN' DEM TEEEEEENS and MONSTERS RIPPING YO HEAD OFF, SON and, like, vampires and shit. Gore and chase sequences don't really make horror.
@Rhademanthus i agree about the gore. I think Hostel had potential to be one of those tense atmospheric horror films you mentioned but the blood and gore took away from that potential.
thats true alot my friends are horror fans and everytime a movie like the grudge when it came they o it wasnt scary, I saw it and i couldnt wash my hair for 2 days
He makes a good point - but now, so many straight-to-dvd movies are getting made (see Dimension Extreme). These are b-quality movies. What I want to see are original, well-produced horror movies (see Blair Witch Project, Cabin Fever, The Descent, etc.)

Haha, stay right there. Saw VII is confirmed as a 3D movie and Saw VIII is thought afterwards. I support originality, I don't support shitty directors (like Eli here) and cashing in over 9000 sequels of the same shit (like Saw).
Eli Roth is kind of dead on. I mean, I dispise remakes, but new films I will give a chance just because...well...I think now because there ARE so many remakes. Now the horror fans will hopefully appreciate new flicks when (if) the remake trend dies down. Personally, I think horror was great from 60-85, but if a film is good, why knock it just because it is 2007? :P
well, im Polish n i totally disagree. first of all i dont recall him saying anything about hating the Poles or Poland, n second, how about u read a little on the topic (regarding what he ACTUALLY said) before u write stupid shit like some idiot
and why is that exactly? my guess would be that he's successful, intelligent, rich and seriously good looking, and you choose to bitch about it, because you haven't achieved 1 meaningful thing in your life. unlucky, guy, life just wasn't designed for losers. get over it already.
I must disagree w/t this point of view. I am always looking 4 fresh new ideas in horror. I love to support new work. Today especially we see alot of remakes which is all well and good, but we do want to see/support the new.
He should just stay in acting. XD He was so awesome in Inglorious Basterds, and he really hasn't done anything good besides Cabin Fever and (in some ways...I know it's debatable) Hostel.
He cry about horror fans because they knock his flims for being tourture porn and taking ideas from other films. Its sad that he turns his faults around on the people who pay for his corvette.
I dont know if you caught it, but the tourture porn was Hostel, and the taking ideas comes from people saying that Cabin Fever has strong similarities to Evil Dead. I can even remeber him saying something of taking ideas from Evil Dead and Last House on the Left. I wish I could remeber where he said it, but I bet you can find it on the net.
In my view point, Ichi the Killer was what got Roth thinking of Hostel, which seems VERY close in ideas of the tourtures. So, Ichi is like Hostel.
I hate when people say that a director copies from other horror movies. I mean yeah, there are a lot of similarities but its the director just trying to take a great idea and making it his own. Like teens in a cabin film has been done countless times, and yet most are classics "friday the 13th, the burning, evil dead" and more!
Damn right! I totally agree with Eli Roth. Originals are totally where it's at. Remakes & "sequels" can go suck my fucking ass. Those type of films are only made for mindless drones to go waste their money on because they have no knowledge of what REAL, ORIGINAL film is like. Oh, & Evil Dead was fucking epic <3
I tend to agree with Eli on some things. Not necessarily that people tear him down because they're jealous, but he's right when he says that horror fans love to complain, and that they'll bitch about sequels but go see them opening weekend. Hey I'm one of 'em, but at least when an original flick comes along such as Cabin Fever or Grindhouse, something different from another Grudge movie, I'll TRY to spread the positive word. I respect him for being a bit more original than most horror today.

i love originals,
i say "bring on the sequels"
but im extra critical on remakes.
example;
"rob zombie's Halloween"
i adore the original, but the remake drove me nuts with the "thats not how it was in the original!!! nbaofjbnpofknb!" 's
however. had that been an original story, it would have been AWSOME.
he really played around with what it takes psychologically at the earliest of ages to become a aerial killer.
