Hey! Very good! Very good.... You got some pinches in there.... :) This is a great song and for lots of reasons .... Keep on going.... I just got a banjo, and looked on youtube to figure out how to place the bridge, tune, and do the tailpiece. I learned something ... and it makes perfect sense .... Your banjo was in tune enough and it sounded great!
Sweetie, tuning will help you imensly. Take it to a shop and get a lesson on the parts and works of your banjo, it wil help a lot. They have tuners that are battery operated and has a needle that will tell you when the string is right for each one.
I too am just starting out and I am 63, it is a fun instrument, just hang in there and pick it up regulartly. Amazing Grace is the first song I picked out. Good luck.
@ienjoysodomy Us? Who's us? Do you have a friend? I'm glad. I really appreciate your helpful comment. I'm teaching myself an instrument I'm not familiar with to honor my dead grandfather and keeping my family updated, so I'm grateful for helpful criticism, especially when delivered in such a polite manner. Your please really distracted from the sarcasm.
sounds good. Your banjo is not set up properly and this is why it is out of toon when fretted up the enck and is in toon when you strum it open. I can see that the bridge is too far towards the tail piece of the banjo. It needs to be moved more toward the neck or peghead. Take it to someone or read on google on bridge placement.
keep it up, you are doing well !!! Cheers

@699backstab Thanks a bunch! I'll look into it. I inherited it and I'm trying to teach myself. I've only ever played the cello before.
