  • te iti do a better version.this is a algoods tho.kia ora

  • Has any1 got the full of 2002.. Strateup the best....

  • Still cnt get enuf ov Te Waka Huia.

  • Te Matatini 1992 was the best. All groups were excellent but Te Waka Huia blew me away with their superior group vocals. It's hard to find any Matatinis dating back before 98. Somebody please put some Te Waka Huia from 92 :)

  • The Senior Kapa Haka nationals from 92 to 02 was not called the Matatini. The Matatini name took over when they got to Palmerston North and had a new commitee in the year 2005. It was called the Aotearoa Traditional Maori Performing Arts Festival. And yes i do agree that 92 was their best year until THIS YEAR at the Matatini 09. Definitely RIPPED SHIT!

  • Tu meke TE WAKA HUIA.

WOW THAT WAS AWESOME ESPICALLY LIVING IN AUSSIE & NOT SEEING ANY KIND OF MAORI FESTIVAL.

WOW THAT WAS SO TOUCHING, & TU MEKE SANDRA WAITAI FOR SOLO NEAT ALRITE BUB, WELL DESERVE.

    ONELOVE

  • i just read your comment i no of 1 that they have in aussie but its in perth and they always have it on waitangi day

  • wakas deserved to take it out this year finally!!!!! go mum!!! lol

and rias solo in this is bayyaaaaaad!!

  • Haard out ! RKM wouldve been mean if they had've stuck to th ' time limit ahakoa te aha he tino tumeke nga mahi o te ra , though so much more couldve been beetre !

  • Man this sounded so much better live in the stadium...If only Ruatahuna didnt go over the time - they were the meanest group there! and te whanau a apanui - catchy az songs, i still find myself singing them lol :)

  • its the song bathe in a river lol

  • Matatini 09 was very disappointing! The committee should have sorted everything out properly and expecting to watch the top 9 on Sunday. It wasn't a proper competition! Congrats to Te Waka Huia. Hopefully next time it would be way better! Te Matarae o Rehu for 4 life DOITZZ!!

  • Kia ora adazsweet , I would be really keen to get copies of those festivals if possible. Of course I would pay whatever. I have been a huge Wakaz fan for many years. Let me know if its possible, hei kona.

  • fuckin mean!

  • I am SO SO HAPPY that my favorite group Te Waka Huia won this year at the 2009 Nationals.. Their sound is mindblowing and always brings tears to my eyes.. BIG CONGRATS to everybody in the group - nobody deserved to win more.. Arohanui

  • Although I was rooting for Te Hokowhitu a Tu, I am also glad Waka Huia took it. I'm a Waka Huia fan and, stepping into their shoes, it is a huge disappointment every kapahaka festival to come second, and they have ever since 96. Consistency, of what I would call a "modern" style of haka, I believe, had kept them at 2nd place. They really toned down this year and in palmy 07 using less props. The fact is that their beauty lay within a more simplistic bracket. They were massive!

  • Wish i had the vids you got lost alot of kapahaka videos in house fire they can't be replaced and have always enjoyed watching te waka huia and am so proud they won this year.

  • Iti Kahurangi did this song better.....aroha mai!

  • i agree !

  • well the only reason i liked Te Iti Kahurangi's version better was because it was dedicated to Te Atairangikaahu. and because i liked it when leila sung her solo.

  • that was obviously a dum comment because its kapahaka an if you can win by just standing around and singing then u myt az well fuck

  • off an go do opera this aint new zealand idol bei its many things choreography is about war formations of how our people fort an trying to bring realism to the stage instead of just copying the latest tune an putting maori words to it.when the pakeha first came to Aotearoa they hated the sound of our music but fuk em we aint tryna please them wea doing it our styles our way tuturu to the core

  • meen maori....meen

  • all the top kapa haka groups like waihirere and te waka huia were at their best in the

80s and early nineties i reckon. today all the groups including the secondary groups spend too much time doing solos and trying to outdo each other with choreography instead of just cracking it on performing a song and bringing it to life...like the way whihirere did when they won back in 88 with tommy taurimas 'paikea'....now THAT was performing

  • Tika tonu koe transgirlnz........the 80's had it and your right in some aspects. Nowadays I think the groups have evolved into the hip and up to date styles which groups are now committing too. Originality has somewhat disappeared abit. We have a whole lot of Rangatahi in groups now and that's had an impact on our groups. I mean, wouldn't it be great to see our older performers strutting their stuff too?

  • Hard out man!!! It's sad to see the old way on a decline. That's why Mataatua is a force to be reckoned with, because they retain their unique style of haka. Also in this category is Hokowhitu a Tu. Yeah and I agree with transgirlnz too. Solos are so common now, they tend to be boring, not so if you can really sing though. lol. I HATE listening to the Waiata Tira now also: they tend to shout rather than sing.

  • Yeh I agree aswell, theres so many younsters in the front rows now, most groups look inexperienced lol. I think th singing has changed, especially the harmonising. There used to be structure in the groups, but now you have so many people doing so many different harmonnises that the tune is lost, and just sounds flat. But noway am I talking about Wakaz, hell no, theyr 1 of da only groups who maintained their style. I thought they were the only group on that sunday that actually got me excited.

  • didn't waka hui win in 88 Christchurch - I've got it on vid

  • I have five 3 hr long videos that have all been gathering dust. They are Waka Hui from 1988 to 1992 and includes 1988Christchurch, 1990 Nationals, 1992Ngaruawahia and Guam. Well just before they left for Guam. Also on them are behind the scenes practices, concerts and stuff from Townsville in Australia.

  • Oh by the way if your interested in dvd copies of these waka huia vids you will have to ask my dad Charlie Kake - or I can ask. Dad might have to check with Bub & Nan first I'm not really sure, but I can check with dad first if interested.

  • Te Waka Huia you guys are a very innovative group you entertain well and compete very well also but I really thought that you fellas let down the crowd that year as we were all waiting for the Extraodinary to happen and the enlightment of Bizzare but Nemine I know next time you guys will.
