  • so chico bets the cocktail waitress that he can ''finish'' while she is pleasuring him, BEFORE HE finishes the minute waltz.,,,, he said he never cared if he lost that bet

  • Gotta love it when Chico says, "Beat ya that time !"

  • name of the song?

  • My dad cracks up when I play the piano like Chico

  • @herbiemarx01 no one can play like chico

  • @dvdsmlprstylr You know, this is true!

  • Genius...

  • @TheAmosJones - Sorry, pal, this is the "Divertissement: Pizzicatti" from the ballet "Sylvia" composed by Leo Delibes. "Pizzicatto Polka" was composed by Johann Strauss. A+, Dani

  • does anyone know what the songs he plays are?

  • @Tomzilla12 Pizzicata Polka/When I Take My Sugar to Tea

  • He is said to have invented the "shooting the key" technique... saw it on Dave Frank's Jazz Master Class.. to catch that video just search for dave frank marx brothers

  • @jrsencio70 SPECTACULAR FREE MARX BROTHERS MASTER CLASS w/Piano Giant Dave Frank! Join renowned jazz pianist/educator Dave Frank for a hilarious look into the musical world of Chico and Harpo Marx. HUGELY fun, entertaining, and educational, this one-of-a-kind class analyzes the unique piano styles of Chico and Harpo via video clips from their classic movies. A MUST for Marx Bros. fans!

To view class, type in Dave Frank Marx Brothers on youtube.

  • @Dfrankjazz I think Harpo wrote that they played as they did because they didn't learn the proper techniques.

  • Lieben Dank für die Einstellung, Blumen lächeln. Du musst nur wissen... wo.

  • Наткнулась случайно, раньше видеть и слышать не приходилось, потрясающая техника, как бывшая пианистка знаю, сколько времени в день нужно тратить для таких результатов. Браво!!!

  • Man, this makes me smile.

  • What is the name of this song, or what movie is it in?

  • @thecoloradokidd

    The movie is money business

  • @TheAmosJones Monkey Business. I watched it last night and was amazed with this scene.

  • he was so amazing! <3 and puppy cute lol

  • I love how he shoots the top note.

  • "♫♫meheh, beat you that time!"

  • damn chico was a like piano prodgy

  • JEEEEZ Chico was a beast!!

  • stiggs61 You're right! Chico WAS the Hendrix of his time. Or maybe the Eddie Van Halen of the 30's.........

  • Chico was always my favorite brother.

  • loove <3

  • Gee, do you suppose he practiced much?

  • @levanyzzuf - Groucho said that he didn't practice that much. He would just soak his hands in warm water for a while and announce, "Practice time is over!" Of course, knowing Groucho. . ."

  • They needed to make a piano with moving keys- That's the only way the piano would have a chance against Chico's fingers- Awesome

  • @johnster623 - I think part of the solution was that Chico played in the keys of C and F, which featured either no black keyes (C) or just one (F). I think that made it easier, along with a helluva lotta talent, to play like he did.

  • Chico's the only guy on earth who can glide on the piano keys like that. Every time I try, I end up hurting my fingers.

  • He makes everything on piano look easy! He's so relaxed!

  • I could play this on mute and thoroughly enjoy him playing.

This is passion for music- giving it your own twist.

  • I cant stop laughing whenever I see his weird fingers play alone on the piano :D he's a master!

  • The hendrix of his time on keys. And very funny also

  • Chico was my favorite. So brilliant. I loved every time he was on screen an any of the movies.

  • ah...chico marx's a legend :D

  • @tahzer not only chico all the marx brothers

  • @tahzer Gone 50 years this coming fall.

  • absolutely incredible

  • Too bad he and Victor Borge never performed together. People would have not stopped laughing to this day.

  • I would have paid a fortune to see that... well i would have paid a fortune to have seen either of them but especially them together.

the problem would be finding a piece they could work on together; for all his comedy and improvisations Victor was a classical pianist and Chico's unique fingering style wouldn't work with a classical number.

  • Liberace had nothing on Chico!

  • He tickles the keys...that's what makes it so enjoyable to watch

  • Love his nonchalant glance up at 1:42 to show us all how easy it was for him!

    What a star.

  • love the way he plays!

  • Was chico really playing??

I thought he was just a comedian

  • Yea man, he was amazing at the piano! Just like Harpo was a phenomenal harpist. In fact, the whole family was musically gifted. The Marx Bros were a one of the kind family...that's why they were so famous.

  • They were as funny as they were good on their instruments.. haha :D

  • watch his fingers fly!!!!!!

  • Brilliant stuff! The last piece is Riding on a Rainbow.

  • love him, favorite marx brother!! he's so important, the other marx brothers needed him to help their jokes succeed

  • He was the glue that tied them together. he was always teamed with Harpo then would meet Groucho later. He would be in most scenes. It was either him/Harpo or him/Groucho. Sure the other brothers did scenes together. But they were separate. Groucho would start with Zeppo. Chico was sooo important to the routine like you said. Not many people see that comedy is actually very complicated and very hard to do well.

  • And "...beatcha that time" is said in the Leonard Marx East-Side brogue. He loses his stage accent. I love that moment.

  • Soooo entertaining.

  • Best part of it all is, look at all the fun he's having! It's contagious.

  • AWESOME!!! Timeless brilliance. He made it look so easy! LOVE it! I was raised on Marx Bros. and now all my kids were too-and they're all musicians. Thanx for posting! It's fans like u that keep their talent before the public who are so used to special effects-this is true genius.

  • He's great.

  • That is so sweet that's crazy how fast he plays

  • It wasn't just talent with Vaudvillians. They had been perfecting their shit since they were kids.

The whole Marx phenomena, as was that for many vaudevillians that made the jump to talkies, was attributable more to hard work even than talent. Lucille Ball and WC Fields come to mind.

  • totally!!!!!!!!!

  • Hilarious!

  • Aw maaaan... he was such a stud, back in the day.

  • They were all rather good-looking boys ... it's just they hid it under wigs and makeup. ^.~

  • HA HA SUPER!

  • This man is a Wonder!

  • That is where Tom and Jerry got that type of piano playing! LOL!!!!

  • This piece is called : Pizzicato Polka by Delibes

  • With the latter addition of the pop song "When I Take My Sugar To Tea."

  • This is the "Pizzicato from Sylvia" by Delibes.

"Pizzicato Polka" is a piece by Strauss.

  • "Ha-ha, beat ya that time." LOL What amazing talents the brothers were, but Chico and Harpo had such a musical flair. What a treat just to watch that caliber of talent.

  • LOL I love this one too. Man I love the Marx brothers.

  • I love this. Chico Marx is an amazing piano player
