That is a considerable point, but I don't think so in my opinion. Almost all school related shootings seem to have been ill-prepared bursts of frustation and anger carried out by amateurs. Looks like they all were trying to make somekind of point by shooting people in random rather than having any real purpose. Beslan school crisis should have given a perspective of how bad things can go when there is more than just an angst filled teen behind the gun.

Stephen Kazmierczak was off of his medication for some time. Moreover, Daniel Parmenter, age 20, Catalina Garcia, age 20, Ryanne Mace, age 19, Julianna Gehant, age 32 and Gayle Dubowski, age 20, DID NOT deserve to die by the hand of a former student. Kazmierczak was not taking his medications as prescribed by his doctor, which contributed to this tragedy. We need to raise awareness of how much god loves us and not to always turn to medications as the problem solver.

Actually, if you read my column you would have seen that an 80-year-old man saved his life by shooting and wounding a burglar that was trying to stab him to death with a knife. To get a FOID card in IL, it asks if you are taking specific meds or have been treated for psychicatric illiness. You can't stop them from lieing on an application.

I was so saddened by this horrific event. Matt Lauer in his interview of the two male students who witnessed the shooting, brought up an excellent point. THE FACT THAT MOST CLASSROOMS ONLY HAVE ONE ENTRY AND EXIT MAKING IT VERY EASY FOR A GUNMAN TO CONTROL THE ROOM AND DO ALOT DAMAGE IN VERY LITTLE TIME. they should pass legislature which requires an exit door every maybe 10 feet for example with a minimum of maybe four exits per classroom.
