Depends on your linux distribution. Generally, it's not difficult. On Kubuntu, you must install kubuntu-desktop so you can choose KDE from the login manager. You can then remove gnome if you want, but I dunno if you would need to remove it package by package or if there's a faster way.

If you mean files YOU made there shouldnt be a problem running
sudo apt-get uninstall ubuntu-desktop
That will uninstall every application under GNOME...
User made files (The ones in Home) wont be affected.

ubuntu-desktop is a meta-package, it won't remove anything.

Very nice.
Makes it very clear what is actually happening/ changing in a very natural way.
This will be especially great for making new users feel comfortable with kde4 very quickly IMO.
