Yes, alot of Southern engines are like it, none have the bark of for example a GW Manor or a LMS Black 5,the only other one that sounds quiet I think is 88 still lovely engines all of them!
I think this engine has the cranks set so as to give 8 beats per revolution, rather than the usual 4 beats in a four cylinder or two cylinder loco... not at 90degrees.

weren't the cranks set to 135 degrees because it was found to be more efficient? Also I prefer Lord Nelson in late BR livery, SR green is ok though.
