I've had the luck of seeing them live multiple times, and never heard him sing it the same way twice. It really speaks to the musicianship of the band that they can make a song that is great no matter how you play it, and that they actually let their music evolve organically, as opposed to the music-by-number singles that you hear in popular music. Complain all you want, but at the end of it all, it's their right as musicians to not let themselves turned into stale canned rock.

They blew me away in 1997. I didn't even really like their music much, went mostly to see The Wallflowers.
Counting Crows was great. They were SO much better in concert than recorded in 1997.
