Guys the main reason they did this is because if your game is scratchy and it won't work you install it. And even of your disk is scratchy it will still work. and you need the disk because they don't wanna get ripped off

MS design their console like that.

installing teh game to your harddrive is just to make it load faster and also don't spin the disc, but you still need the disc inside the tray.

There is an easier way. Just go to the game where u would normally boot it then press X instead of A to turn on normally.

he quick question..i have smackdown vs raw 2008. and its scratched..not a whole lot that it wont play at all. it still plays without freezing except during the storymode sumtimes it freezes. i put it on hardrive. so if i go to play from hardrive will it continue to freeze becuz the disk is still in there or since it on hardrive will it stop freezing or will it only freeze sometimes. if any1 can answer that would be great thank you.

This is the 2 reasons why install game to your harddrive:

1. Load way fast and more quietly.

2. If your disc is scratched, borrowed the same game from your friend if they have one and install it into your hard drive after that you should be able to play with your scratched disc.

I agree it is total bullshit that you need the disc, but it makes sense for people who would just rent a game as the video said. A way around that would be to make 2 different types of discs. 1 for selling to the general public and 1 for places like blockbuster that are copyright protected. Also, I think it is worth it just for the sound difference. Running from the disc it sounds like a jet engine, but from the hard drive it is silent. I also have a 250 GB hard drive so its a little easier.

@JeepCherokeeV8 you are stupid, people could buy the game, install it, then do something like give it to a friend or return it to the store, that is also what they are preventing, so making a two different diskes would just make the game cost more because of the effort of creating the other disk. My xbox stoped reading diskes so i wish they never thougt of that.

My xbox scratched my game or burnt a ring around the edge, second time its done this to my black ops game but this time it was my fault as my xbox fell over due to me falling off my chair and getting tangled in the wires. D:

To my suprise it still works but it sometimes freezes on certain game modes.

So when you install a game, it doesn't read off of the disc anymore but you still the game in the console. Have you tried installing a disc to the drive, starting the game and then taking the disc out of the disk tray? (You need to disassemble you xbox to do this) This way you can use the game disk for something else while playing off of the hard drive.

You can't play the game WITHOUT the disc, REGARDLESS if you burned it to your harddrive. From what I heard. Microsoft most likely didn't do this since it could lead to BIG piracy issues. Since one could just burn the game, then take it back and get a full refund. Sorry, man. =(

On the bright side, I hear it reduces load times DRAMATICALLY. Portal seems to have better load times now. =)

So if you get the game new, and then burn it to the hardrive, you won't have to worry about disc read errors. Just as long as the game can be recognized by the 360, you won't have to worry about disc read errors.
