I believe that this general disappointment at the media is a result of more people having access to it. The media has always been a fraud, always controlled by big business, powerful religious groups or influential political parties. It has always been that way, the only difference is today more people are aware thanks to the constant exposure through cable and the internet.
Our GrandParent's heroes were a bunch of cheating drunks and they got away with a lot because of the media.
