german shepherds are very intelligant dogs. my german shepherd learned sit and stay and beg when no one taught him. my family knows nothing about training so i kn ow they didnt teach him! can someone tell me why this happened?
my aunt has an uncle who has a dog (german sheperd) named apple who was shorter than other german dogs so he didnt make it to be a police dog and when you say POW and pretend u have a gun he will play dead and he will ony come up if you say Apple Up its soo cute though and GS are my fav dogs GO GS!
German Shepherds are pleasers and very obedient. I'm sure there is an exception to the rule, but Max is the "Golden Rule". He loves to make me happy and it never hurts to have a few treats in hand. The "play dead" part is done like any other trick or obedience... Positive reinforcement . I would have him sit, down, and then "point" and literally have to put my hand on him to make him lay on his side, then give him the treat. Repeat and repeat. Soon, he was doing it without my assistance. =)
Ok thanks so much! I'm getting a german shepherd puppy this Saturday! I love the GSD and how loyal and loving they are. :) I want to teach mine this trick!
In my humble opinion, they are the most fantastic breed of dog and you are making a very wise choice! The one thing I would say to do (this goes for any breed of dog, but especially GS) is to socialize them with LOTS of people and other dogs. They can become timid as adults if not properly trained and socialized. Best of luck to you with the trick! If you need any advice or help with your puppy just send me a tell. =)
Yeah I'm going to take her with me everywhere I can. Expecially places with other dogs like my local dog park! Thanks for all your advice too. :) If I need any help I'll definately ask. Bye!
