Firstly nice job on Battletoads! I myself am still stuck on level 12 and I am yet to encounter the Dark Queen. Its funny you mention Ninja Gaiden though, me and a friend finished that game just 3 odd nights ago. But I still believe Batman on the NES to be much harder than Ninja Gaiden, although the concept is quite similar.
I really think that Contra/Probotector and the Megaman series are still not as difficult as Battletoad or Batman. Don't get me wrong they are challenging games but certainly not on par with Battletoad and Batman. Speaking of hard titles have you ever had a serious attempt in finishing Impossible Mission II or Raid 2020? I think it would be easier to finish Battletoads on your head as appose to those two.
You should consider yourself very lucky not to have played them back then......I myself am still stuck in the 80's - early 90's gaming era roughly owning 250 NES games. Their are just so many weird/obscure games for the NES that are either extremely hard (for some reason or another) or have very, VERY poor programming making them extremely hard/near impossible - Raid 2020 is one of the better examples.
Batman properly is easier if you playing on an emulator and using "save state"!!!
We were actually talking about playing NES games on an actual NES system, not through emulation.
Emulators not only have timing/sound issues (almost 100% of the time) but they also take away the entire challenge and feel that NES games had. - Jono
i never got further than the sixth level in battletoads on an actual console, tho, back in the days, i didn't know about the warp zone on this stage, so probably i could show some better results... anyways, people can get used to everything, so i don't think, in fact, those sound/ timing issues are such a big problem.
Its was not so much the timing issues I have with the emulators nor the sound - though they are irritating enough. Its just more to the point that save-sates take ALL the fun out of these type of games. Using save-sate turns them from a challenge to a walk in the park. But its not only that (as I stated before); it just does not "feel-right". To sum it up easier I prefer to drive my car as appose to playing a driving "simulator". As thats all these emulators really are simulators.
They can not (and will not) match the feeling of sitting in front of your TV for hours (if not days) on end playing the real thing. But I am sure you already knew that :-) - Jono
Lol, no sir in my book that is not cheating at all! Those extra lives are essential. But you still played on an emulator (by the sounds of it) which is a bit of a shame. Congrats all the same though, youre doing better than me. - Jono
@deathtap No need to tell me twice. I collect video games and have for some time now so I have nothing but respect for these types of games. As far as playing NES games without cheats; is that not the only way to play them? Why would I do otherwise? Besides I can usually finish Paper Boy no worries on the NES and everyone is still going on about how hard that is. But still much easier in comparison Battletoads. - Jono
@deathtap Lol, you really need to read more thoroughly. I said "why would I cheat", not how? Again not point telling someone who has collected NES game for years that there is something called a Game Genie which allows you to manipulate the game in ways usually not possible e.g. level skip, more lives etc.
And I think we need to call this one quits, as everyone is getting really off subject here. - Jono
@superxingu: I wish you luck, sir. Beating that game without saves, etc is near impossible. I can almost do it, but the last boss... well, you'll see.
hahaha, this level is hilarious. You jump into the unknown, and if you get lucky and get on solid ground, a second later you find yourself getting pounded by something.
first and only "3D" efect in NES history
the idea of that level is brillinat and pure evil

@jono103: I beat battle toads on the NES. No saves. I only used the 5 life cheat. But in this game, is that really cheating?
