  • Man, that was a great horse. He wasn't flashy and he won ugly, but no horse had as much tenacity as he did.

  • This race is proof that no horse wanted to make eye contact with JOHN HENRY! Tenacious and a heart to win! I miss you, JH!!

  • First from beginning to end. Now that's a super-horse... Here there is no Zeniattas, no Sea the Stars... John Henry makes me cry.

  • John had such tenacity...wouldn't let ANY horse get past him. No way was he going to give up the lead. Love you John!

  • My heart was pumping the whole race XD

  • Thanks for the great video. My grandfather loved John Henry, and I remember his television promotions for Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. A truly great horse indeed. One of the best ever. We all love you John and thank you for all the great memories.

  • That race tells you everything you need to know about a great racehorse! It's all right there, running on the lead against some best around at that time, and just kept rolling. If John saw you coming at him he was real tough to get by! He was pure hickory! RIP Buddy!!!!

  • I'm at the entrance to Gulfstream Park @ ten years ago. My friend strikes up a conversation with a trainer leaving the premises.

I think I know who he is. Having a scrapbook handy, I ask him for his autograph. He beamed as he signed his name, and then left to get in his car.

He wasn't who I thought he was.

My friend: "You idiot! Why would you want the autograph of the guy who put John Henry in a claiming race and then lost him?!"

  • Tears. That's all I can say after watching that race. I'll miss you buddy.

  • Rest in Peace. I can't believe such a horse ever existed. It's just been an honor.

  • you will never be forgotten John Henry. RIP

  • Thats for sure...ALL HEART!

  • he wired the field at 1 3/4 in the san juan cap and then, at the age of 9 wires at 1 1/2. majesty's prince and all along were both great turf horses.

  • Absolutely legendary grit and heart!

  • John Henry goes wire-to-wire at a mile and a half. Will not give an inch in stretch.

He was a tough old bird at 9. Must have been very frustrating for other horses and

    riders. Great video!

  • Fantastic! John Henry and Win richly deserved the great crowd cheers for their superb efforts! The mare All Along was a terrific horse in her own right.

    Wonderful! Thanks so much!

  • JH from the gate to finish...shadow roll bobbing up and down! Great race John Henry! XOXO :-)
