My husband and I sang this to my mother in the nursing home I placed her in after her terminal cancer diagnosis last February. After ten months in hospice, she died on Christmas Eve 2011. We will never forget singing this song to her so many times. Thank you for posting this treasure.
I know that its a TV show, but if that was real life I would say that they have left the brat there and let her continue to think that she is the star in her own town rather than take her with them.
@falcon3268 Or maybe they would have let Ethel have her moment in the sun instead of acting like selfish jackasses when she gets a little attention in her freakin' hometown. Ricky's a rising star, and Fred has his Vaudeville days. Lucy connives her way into everyone's show, so why not let Ethel have this one chance to be the star?
@smartremark2012 because she shouldn't have needed to lie just to get the fame. Plus the fact is its not like Ethel was some peasant that had no talent early in the show it was revealed that she and fred had done a number of shows together so its not like she wasn't well known for her singing.
Too bad we can't hear the song without the canned laughter or to see the high jinks.
She had WAY more talent in her little pinky finger than Lucille Ball had in her whole body. All Lucy could do is ham because she couldn't sing, recite poetry, or dance.
She should have waved good-bye to Lucy, saying "See ya!" She could have launched a song career and done quite well for herself and been remembered for more than just being Lucy's comic foil.
Fred with that tree. He and Vivian were just as funny as Lucy and Desi. Without those two that show would not have been the same.
