  • Do I NEED a green screen for this effect?

  • One of the problems is shadows. How to fix that?

  • Matt, when i do this, one layer is fuzzy. how do i fix this?

  • Why is your cropping look different

  • Matt can you please tell me in what situations you would want to use picture in picture vs. green or blue screen effects?

  • what iMovie is it? It doesn't work on my iMovie 11

  • that was a a great tutorial thank you. I am having great difficulty trying to find a way to create a still frame in iMovie 11! hellppp!

    thanks -

    wanda

  • Thanks, Matt. This was very helpful.

    Take care,

    Tim 

  • GUYS, just call up apple if you have lion and ask about Idvd, they'll send it to you!

  • With that problem that occurs when you put a green item with the green screen effect, is it a good solution to put the blue screen effect??

  • hey guys check out my channel

    i do imovie edits

  • Hey matt! I love your videos! :D

  • its wiered not hearing from you

  • @daviddsiuser I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

  • HEY MATT I NEED YOUR HELP! I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch. and I'm trying to publish the movie to iDVD but I can't find the program. It opens a window that says "Where's iDVD?" and theres a list of all the programs of the MacBook but no iDVD. Please I need your help and I hope you can make a video about this and help me as soon as posible.

  • @Javier23gol Do you have a newer MacBook? iDVD in no longer included with OSX.

  • @MattsMacintosh Yes I got the Mac about a month ago and I'm still getting into it. It's there any way to find it free or a another great DVD program free?

  • @Javier23gol There are several free and paid third-party DVD burners. Just do a Google search and you'll find them.

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks a lot Matt! So my final question is: Anyway to get iDVD? Do I need to buy it or something like that?

  • @Javier23gol Its still on my mac book air with the latest update

  • Does this work with screen recordings?

  • @MrTheduderocks yes, ive tried it.

  • @mw2randomCRAP Awesome!

  • love u matt i love those vids very helpfull XD

  • Check out my channel please!!!

  • You have the same tripod as me!!

  • @MattsMacintosh I liked this video, but can you please show how to do this in Final Cut Pro X? that is the main editing software I use and it would awesome to see it on that :)

  • I have enjoyed your videos...what type of screen recorder do you use?

    Thanks

  • One thing that might give it away; the table shows the shadow of your hand and the 2nd Mac on the right half of the table edge, but remains normal on the left due to the cut off. Very small, though, and this is a great trick.

  • best mic?

  • Hey Matt, I'm using the 18-55mm lens that comes with the rebel T3i and when I zoom in and focus while video shooting, the lens rings are real loud. How can I prevent this?

  • @09optime Nicer lenses have smoother movements in the rings, but the only way to fully prevent it is to use an external mic.

  • @MattsMacintosh If I sit the rode video mic on top of the camera, will the sound be noticeable or will have have to be far away on a boom pole. Thanks for your help.

  • @09optime i recomend the Røde VideoMic

  • @09optime Or you could make sure that on the lens it is on manual focus l had the same problem until I changed it to manual

  • @LyingPit It is on manual and it is the lens that comes with the rebel t3i/ 600d

  • @LeCoreNoir Of course

  • Hey Matt, is it possible to edit music videos on Imovie?

  • Can you clone with the app?

  • Thanks again, another great video.

  • If the item is green, you could probably use the blue screen option.

  • Sweet! Looks Awesome!!!

    #Jabs

  • WHen I try to do this, my video gets all choppy and pixelated. Do you know why?

  • I can't get it to work.

  • @FCPAvid iMovie isn't a multi-track editor like FCP. You can't simply overlay the shots, so you have to use some kind of trickery like green-screening to get it to work.

  • Heh, stare at the middle of the table in the beginning or the end. The shadows on the table get messed up.

  • Sweet tutorial! I've been hoping you would do one on cloning. I have a question for you, how do you clone people talking and have their audio match up. Say it was a short brief dialogue where you don't take the camera off the subjects. Is there a way to do it so that their dialogue flows naturally. I've seen many a youtuber do it, I've just never figured out how! Hope you can help!

  • @MyTechtime YOU ARE A GENIOUS

  • Good tutorial, Matt!

  • if its green why not use blue screen?

  • Soo useful and amesome!,

  • Thanks for the great video Matt. Do you still use your Mac Pro? I saw in your video that you were traveling and assumed you use the Air. I like your iMovie tutorials, most people stay away from iMovie tutorials and go straight to final cut pro x.

  • If u have a green item use blue screen the option right below green screen

  • :O

I thought I knew all about iMovie until you showed that "Show Advanced Tool" checkbox!

I LOVE YOU (Not in the homosexual way, though)

  • Hey why dont you do a iMovie or fcp how to better the video ?

  • SWEET! I've always wondered how you could do a masking-like effect in iMovie. Thanks Matt! You're the best!

  • I NEEDED THIS...YOU'RE FREAKIN AWESOME MAN...KEEP'EM COMMIN

  • Thank you :)

  • What about "Blue Screen" for green objects or even Picture in Picture maybe?

  • Matt couldn't you use blue screen effect for green things in your clip it worked for me

  • @ADKTrailbreaker should work the same. just make sure there's no blue in the top layer or else it might get keyed out.

  • hello am new with imove and am using some of my mp3 remix music and puting video to it, you can check out some of my work on my page. i have a question is there a pitch shift for the video when the audio is going to fast or slow..i did find the pitch but is there some way i can use on the fly or a faster way to use it..thks

  • Matt can you help me with my 2012 History fair project(NHD.org)? I'm making it on iMovie, the topic is Apple: The Computer Revolution, you in?

  • GREAT. ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT. THANKS

  • Thanks! That was helpful

  • thanks, this is helpful as I've done "cloning" in some of my videos (using the side screen thing) so yeah

  • when i tried it with a person it saw through him..... why?.... there was nothing green just a wight background and a shirtless guy...HELP

  • If the item was green could you click on the blue screen instead?

  • hey i loved the video helped a lot. i have a question for u please help, do u know a way to be able to transfer a final cut pro X project from one computer to another computer with out exporting. so all the edits that i make one one comp i cant transfer the project with the edits and then work on more edits and change up all ready done edits on 2 different comps. please help

  • Matt. What's bluescreen? Thanks.

  • shadow fail 2:03

  • Are you at film school yet Matt?

  • Comment removed

  • Cool. I didn't know you could do that in iMovie. Thanks

  • Final cut is easier to do this in.

  • iMovie is a shit program!! Use Adobe Premiere pro!!!

  • @ArmanPROsto iMovie is a family oriented program, is not a program for pro!, its like Windows Movie Maker!

  • @dmpwn96 But it's only 100 times better that movie maker... :DD

  • @vajksziget7a hahaha, yeah :D

  • @dmpwn96 OK!=) How ever you are right!

  • @ArmanPROsto iMovie isn't shit. You can do some very professional stuff if you dig into it. Use it and you'll be suprised.

  • @CKSpoiler Ok ;) I use Premiere for 3 years, and don't know a lot about iMovie :) I think you are right!

  • thanks so much for posting iMovie video tips.

  • Thanks again Matt. I have to try this out. But can I do multiple clones in iMovie? Or do I need another software?

  • Moar !

  • Hmm... I never thought of it. But what about the possibility of using Blue Screen instead?

  • But, wouldn't you be able to set it to Blue Screen in case you're using green objects? At least, that sounds logical to me, since there wasn't really any blue thing in the shot.

  • Why do you have to use green screen for this? Can't you just place the second layer over the first?

Also, if you were doing this effect in FCP X, how do you avoid the line at the gap where the crop is? Is there some way to feather the crop perhaps?

  • I've leaned so much from your iMovie tutorials. I recently posted a video on my channel and L'ORÉALParisUSA tweeted it and said they loved my review. I'm positive I learned all the iMovie effects from you. Thanks

  • how about if i want to make the mac become three ?

    can?

i ever try to make clone to 3 things, but can't.

    can u help me?

  • Please more imovie effects like this! I like to see how you utilize imovie to create effects especially when the software lacks many effects.

  • thanks! loved it! your videos are AWESOME! :)

  • if you want to clone a person is it harder??

  • @TheSDavies93 Not really. Just remember to keep to the left or right of the centerline of the camera so you don't cross into the clone shot.

  • @MattsMacintosh I did that with my sister matt, it super cool except her hair is all fuzzy if you know what i mean

  • you've been slow delivering the goods lately matt :) lol. but i hope you get everything settled with your moving and bring some professional videos using your go pro and your camera.

    good luck

  • @MattsMacintosh how did you do that zoom in and zoom out thing on your tutorial and also my tripod keeps very slowly moving down and side to side so will this cause a problem?

  • @macfreak98 I use an app called Screenflow for my tutorials. As for the tripod, if it moves a lot it will definitely be a problem.

  • @MattsMacintosh I use screenflow as well but i dont know how to do that zoom thing

  • @macfreak98 You can set/enable the zoom effect on a mac in preferences under universal access

  • Great idea to use the green-screen effect :)

  • That's why you need plenty of light coming from all angles, to kill all shadows.

  • You didn't take shadows into account. If you have a keen eye (like I do), I noticed a cut-off shadow which makes it clear something was cropped.

  • What editing program do you professionally cut on, Matt?

  • @SuperDelishify I'm not a pro, but I'm proficient at FCP 7, FCP X, and Premiere. Most of my YouTube videos and the stuff that's actually been on TV was done with FCPX.

  • It was simple and short !! Just perfect.

  • awesome!

  • Nice. Your videos are always very well made. You inspire me :)

  • @thepineappleeater @mattsmacintosh you can clone without a green screen it is super easyy

  • this is weird cause i just posted the cloning effect on iMovie too..lol check it out if you want:

    watch?v=x2AJFMYM4Zc&feature=related

  • @ZDProductionz haha. I didn't see it. You can leave it as a response video if you want.

  • Great video!

  • could you use the blue screen

  • @iPodfilms2 Yep. In fact, I probably should have mentioned that you should use blue screen if there is a lot of green in your shot.

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks!

  • Last time i used the cloning efx was in Final Cut. This is a lot simpler. Thanks for sharing another iMovie tip.

  • Thanks again Matt!

  • more more

  • u can put the videos over each other instead of green screen to clone

  • @ThePineappleEater Nope, iMovie 11 only allows for single track editing. I suppose you could try some kind of picture-in-picture thing, but that would be a lot more work.

  • @MattsMacintosh Would Final Cut Pro work?

  • @insecur Yeah. Just but your two clips on top of each other and crop the top one.

  • @MattsMacintosh sorry got it confused with final cut

  • Brilliant, I didn't know you could drag individual nodes in the crop menu...thanks

  • Cool! So easy! :) You are great at these videos! :)

  • You inspire me so much Matt.
