It's not that easy, thrust chambers and injector heads for Vulcain and HM7 are manufactored in Germany (Ottobrunn) as are the booster casings and the second stages (Bremen). Turbo pumps are made in France and Italy, nozzles are from sweden and the payload fairings from switzerland.

However, that doesn't mean it can never ever be called French -- and those if us who call it French (which it is) aren't trying to provoke a retarded barrage of semantic hair-splitting about what percentage the rest of Europe contributes to a French initiative.

Well, about 60% is far from being completly french. French initiative? Sure, but without Germany, for example, there would be no Ariane program. Just do some research on the Ariane heritage and it's ill fated predescessor, the Europa rocket. In other words...Ariane is European, deal with it.

But you are true about Ariane being a european program. French are an important part of it and provide the spaceport, but without the others they could have done nothing.

France built the second stage of the Europa rocket. The stage was derived from the Diamond, AFAIK.

France has a 60% share in Ariane and launches take place from French Guiana, but parts of it are built all over Europe. Without the expertise of the ESA, France could not pull it off alone. Engineering experience from ESA (to which France is the largest contributor with 23%, closely followed by Germany with 22%) was crucial in the design and construction of the project.

Ariane is developped by the CNES, built in France, near Paris, commercialised by a French company (ArianeSpace), launched from France and controlled from Toulouse, France.

Sur ce que je sait c'est que ARIANE est un projet Français tout comme l'aurait été HERMES une navette spatiale, mais l'ESA c'est en partie Français et britannique (Aérospatial et la BAC) ensuite il y a des petites agences spatiales qui ont adhéré le projet. mais Ariane reste pour moi le lanceur le plus puissant.

Je bosse à Kourou. Pour résumer: l'ESA (Agence Spatiale Européenne) récolte les contributions des différents états européens (+ le Canada et la Suisse) et finance les projets. Le CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales), effectue les études. EADS et ses partenaires industriels construisent la fusée (en France, en Allemagne, en Italie, en Suisse, en Belgique, etc., selon les parties de la fusée). Et enfin, Arianespace, exploite et commercialise les lancements.

La France est maître d'oeuvre et surtout, elle a donné l'impulsion politique pour la construction de la fusée... Pour le reste, quelle est la proportion de sociétés françaises parmi toutes celles impliquées dans le projet, quelle est la proportion d'ingénieurs français parmi tous les ingénieurs, quelle est le pays d'origine de chacune des pièces de la fusée, c'est une toute autre question...

D'après le site d'ariane espace, la France tient 60 % de son capital... ce qui est déjà beaucoup mais c'est normal vu que la France est fondatrice. Les 40 % restants appartiennent à diverses sociétés européennes. Mais nous parlions ici de ariane 5, pas d'ariane espace.
