  • Boost makes it nice and fuzzy, if you want some crazy fuzz turn it all up hehe

  • justin is getting bald...

  • thanks for the review, I just bougt the wox bulldog awesome !

  • the boost with the gain up sounds godlike

  • so much useless videos of people with so much ego...it sucks, practice please...you've got money only, go out

  • @minitel3615simon then take your french ass somewhere else and stop moaning

  • Those crazy danes...love this pedal.

  • @imakemuffinsme

Yeah we're really proud of T-rex xD

  • andres iniesta!

  • T-rex, simply a kickass danish company :)

  • is that name because of the band?

  • two great bands in the name, pretty good sound....but ill stick with my Interfax.

  • Thanks for the demo, I was looking at this pedal the other day and didnt have time to try it. Thanks mate

  • collection collection. its in my collection.

  • For christ sake, just use a pick för the battery compartment! Also, stop babbling about the obvious, what's in and out, on/off etc.

  • strange ending

  • It sounds very good justin...but t-Rex now have one called the Tone Bug. I think you would love to add that one to your collection too. I think it's out of the two the Tone Bug one will go classic and demand a higher price down the road...they are only 99 dollars now...so get one now...and I am looking forward to you demo -ing that one too....

  • The Mudhoney II will be in the shops soon.

    All the best

    T-Rex Torsten

  • If you already are running an amp pretty good with the amp distortion a bit up, will this pedal work as a boost in genres like heavy rock/metal?

  • keen chicken heads. always announce at the start what guitar and amp (& setting) you will be using for the demo.. it only takes 5 to 10 seconds. otherwise you did a very good review. wonderful accent

  • does this pedal have anything to do with the band mudhoney?

  • damn I want one of these.

  • i kinda liked the sound of the boost button with the gain up, it gave it kinda a saggy low end sort of JTM45 bunch of dirt. to each his own though

  • Actually John Mayer does use a mudhoney, go to the T-rex website

  • @sabianboy11 Yes he did in the past but if you see new photos of his pedal rack you can't see it there. He uses the klon and ts10 now, plus some eventide pedals amongst others. Although that is no reason not to buy one. I just got mine and it is b-e-a-utiful. If you get the chance check it out and its not that expensive either. Cheaper than a fulldrive and about the same as a keeley mod bd2.

  • I really hope I can try one of these out soon, but until then I'm more than happy with my full drive 2

  • I'm sick of you people who moan about the reviewer. You're spoil brats that don't appreciate someone going to the trouble of trying to help you out. If you find these videos annoying then by all means fuck off and test the pedals out at a shop instead.

    /rant

  • @t0v3 so the person who delivers the critique can't be critiqued? You just critiqued the critics, something you allegedly is sick of, how does that make any sense? This particular review contains some unusually stupid remarks. Someone who hasn't figured out how to open the battery compartment (?!?) probably shouldn't be too opinionated about ... anything, concerning effect pedals.

  • @t0v3 very well said!

  • It would be nice to hear some ripping lead: Robben Ford, Angus Young, Freddy King, or even some Jeff Beck.

    Where's the beef?

  • John Mayer does not use a mudhoney. TOday he use a ts-808 and a keeley Blues Driver

  • he has used the mudhoney in the past.

actually john doesn't use a ts808 or bd-2 anymore either

  • Okey i thought he still uses the ts-808, what is he using today?

  • well he's always changing, but primarily for od: ts10, bluesbreaker, klon, smokey-signal.

  • Was the band named after the pedal?

  • is this pedal an overdrive? this may be an obvious question, if so sorry I am new at this stuff

  • proguitarshop lists this as an overdrive. i have one, and in my opinion it has elements of overdrive, crunch, and fuzz. it is fairly unique. at low gains it is like a very warm overdrive, full of presence. at higher gains it is a mega, out-of-control fuzz. i'd definitely vouch for the quality of these - i love my one.

  • yes

  • Good review thanks

  • That thing has a bit of the rolling stones sound to it eh?

  • Good review and pretty neat pedal. How much did you pay for it?

  • Comment removed

  • fucking hell! - by the end of this vid I have died of old age. P.S this is my dog writing this.. as I am dead. I love you all. Peace. xxx woof woof

  • Hey it's kind of nice that someone takes the time to tell the noobs all of the cool features and details about the pedals.

  • LOL

  • i use mudhoney with an epiphone tube amplifier, and it works just perfect, i like the wide gain range.

  • 1 sec demo - 20 sec talk - 1 sec demo - 20 sec talk...

  • is this used by mudhoney the band haha ?

  • I've got the T-Rex compressor with the same damn battery compartment. Tried to open it with a screwdriver and cracked it a bit. And what's more, the 9V plug is way too loose and becomes disconnected very easily. I remember muttering to myself that I couldn't believe this thing was made by engineers. Sound of their pedals is quite good though. And I do appreciate your thorough overview commentary.

  • too much talking .... sorry :)

  • why use pedals instead of an X board that does everything?

and why get an amp with FX if a pedal does it all? Do you use distortion on the pedal and also the amp or run the amp on clean channel and control it through the pedal?

  • its an overdrive pedal with a boost, not a distortion

  • Blues Rock sounding ala', Black Crows, Keith Richard...ETC.

  • here's what's annoying about this review...95% of the time I heard this dudes voice instead of the pedal!!

  • not my style but it sounds good

  • what the hell? lol the end was so unsuspected :S

  • this sounds like a blues overdrive thing.

  • The boost is meant to break up the bottom end when gain is cranked, it is sold as a distortion/fuzz. but like you say just don't crank it that far, but some people will appreciate it.

    Conrad

  • mudhoney had a much more fuzzy sound than this pedal can accomplish

  • No offense, but the compression used on the audio of this video is really annoying. It's hard to tell what the amp is actually sounding like because it's always decreasing the volume...

  • What are you using for reverb?

  • Hi! Nice review, but what guitar are you using in this demo?

  • Fender Telecaster with humbucker as a bridge pickup

  • this whouldn't work for playing metal or bullet for my valentine or killswitch engage or buckethead?

  • uhhh no

check out some of the heavier Boss/EHX/Digitech pedals

  • I don't like digital pedals they sound kinda *fake*. EHX has way too many products they have four versions of the Holy Grail, is that necessary? Boss pedals aren't even true bypass!

  • well if you're such an expert why don't you actually help someone instead of throwing around your opinions/facts?

Ahhgirl67 was asking for help... why don't you run along now?

  • I did not notice that you were replying to ahhgirl76 I thought you just posted a comment about the video. You know there are a lot of immature people who presume that they own the best equipment.

  • True bypass is not always the best thing.

Read pete cornish's article on it.

  • agreed, in some cases, buffered bypass is better. but if you're only running 2 or 3 pedals, its probably best to have them all be true bypass

  • ur hilarious

  • He's Tasmanian, you geographically-challenged fuck-knuckle.

  • He's demoing a fucking pedal. A fucking pedal.

  • is it just me or does he have a weird compressor on....

  • That's the butiqie sound.

  • Quick question, did the band Mudhoney get thier name from the pedal, or did they name the pedal after the band?

The pedal sounds great, i like the soft/hard thing. And the boost when the gain is up sounds pretty kickass to me.

  • No, MUDHONEY is the name of a cult film by Russ Meyer, a director known for casting actresses with huge breasts.

  • XD oh, ok then, that makes sense

  • mudhoney got their name from a russ meyer film

  • Hotrox UK do a good price on this pedal.

  • Great Pedal BUT, the boost button should be a footswitch. And yes, you cant open the battery compartment.

  • Great video man! Gonna buy it tomorrow!

  • oh, all right, my bad. Great vids, man

  • Another great review! Just a bit of advice, i've found that a coin does a pretty good job of getting off the battery cover, just slot it in the gap and pull downwards! thanks

  • i like the sound at 7:06 , u rock

  • tempted to get one of these.

  • Dear Justin !

wow your videos are FABULOUS !!!

could it be possible for you to do a Boss DS-1 review as well?

  • Boost button with the gain up starts to sound like a fuzz pedal, I dig it, lol!

  • Whats means with output and input how to plug it in??

  • the cable from the guitar is plugged into the 'INPUT' socket, and the cable from the 'OUTPUT' socket is plugged into the amp.

    Hope this helps...

  • man, you didn't even touch the level knob...

  • thats just the volume :S

  • is this named after the actual band mudhoney

  • I love the gain and tone at 3 o'clock or beyond with the boost on. I was going for the sound in my head that the Big Muff didnt achieve and im pleased to say this does. I use it for lead work though, not chordal and i do think its not too good at that at high gain.

However, i have never heard a pedal good at low gain and this is no exception. I'm still looking, but my amp has it covered anyway.

  • you could use a coin to open the battery thing lol...that sounds great

  • I love the boost button with the gain up. Sounds rad. Maybe just me. But I like it.

  • do u stand on it when ur on stage

  • #griffter# no you tap it with your foot

  • I have a T-rex Dr. Swamp myself wich have the exact same lid.. it no problem to get it open really, just use a pick :D

  • Nice. I hope the video maker can find and review a DOD Death Metal distortion pedal.

  • Excellent review. Nonetheless, I'm assuming that -- since it is called Mudhoney and looks similar to a Big Muff, which is the band Mudhoney's pedal of fame -- that the high gain and the booster were designed to be cranked up grunge-style. There is always the chance that it is all a coincidence, but it would seem to be an unlikely one. Confused by no reference to the band Mudhoney in a review of a pedal of the same name.

  • i think its just called mudhoney it sounds dirty and sweet!

  • @gjrocks its called mudhoney cause of the band

  • this thing sounds great! I got to have one of these

  • I think those boost buttons are for juicing up single coil pickups.

  • i'm new to playing electric guitar and i have got a roland microcube amp. is it normal that the volume goes down as i turn the gain down?

    thanks!

  • ya that's normal

  • Calm down before you scat your pants

  • Good review. This is a rock pedal for sure. The boost pedal has a grunge vibe. It would have been better to hear a lead line or two just to hear what individual notes sound and feel like. But the chords sounded decent enough.

  • That sounds like a great pedal. Nice reviews. Very helpful.

  • That sounds like a really nice pedal, I've been looking at getting one. As usual you do a great job of showing everything off.

The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that the Mudhoney pedal is kind of famous for that fuzzy high gain boost. Just listen to the sound of the band Mudhoney, that's sort of the pedal's legacy. I'm probably just bitching because I like that sound, oh well, different strokes for different folks

thanks again for making such great videos, Justin

  • if you add &fmt=18 to the url you can hear better and the vid is in higher definition. i think this works on all youtube vids.

  • what tune are you sampling on this its pretty cool

  • Where i can find the riffs played along the video?

  • and NO BLOODY TUBES!!!

  • Justin is the man!

  • "sounds a bit naff" ... I love it! lol

  • Good video, Justin.

I was looking into buying a new distortion pedal, I was mainly looking at Ibanez tubescreamers, but I will now check this pedal out!

  • really nice! it would be cool if someday you show all your collection, maybe just overlook with your favs :P

  • Looks like the same pedal Joe Satriani was working on.

  • wicked very useful thanks justin!!

  • good sound, looks like you made a good buy

  • Try opening the battery lid with a coin. :D

  • Your videos are the best on YouTube! Seriously... Hey, how do you get your logo up there? What do you have to do? Contact YouTube? Keep up the good work!

  • "latest collection to my distortion pedal collection"

I think he meant addition haha

  • Great lesson. When you hit the boost button with lower gain it sounds like "RUSH"

  • if you think that's bad, try getting into a Line-6 pedals battery compartment, those things are messed up.

at least on the T-rex you could just do it with a small screwdriver, or maybe even a guitar pick :p

One of the best pedals when it comes to getting to the battery area: Boss.

  • Interesting. I'm a bit of a distortion nut, though, so for now I'll stick with my Digitech Grunge pedal :D Thanks Justin. Keep 'em coming!

  • btw! Danish pride! hehe

  • this is new?? reviews?.. Great :)

  • yeah, maximum gain, thats how i love to play, great vid

  • Sorry if it is a newbie question but is there an overall pedal, like distortion blues and all that stuff? I really can't afford multiple pedals but I am not satisfied with just an amp and I would like an improvement and I like to play mainly rock/heavy metal.

  • Sure there are, for example I have Boss ME-50 pedal and it has all those heavy metal/lighter rock/blues/jazz/funky sounds and all other goodies. Just go to your local music store and ask to test some in there and ask for advice also!

  • You can either buy individual pedals or spend alot of money on a multieffect pedal from boss.

Go to guitarcenter -dot- com and type in "boss me-50" OR "boss me-20"

But think of this, you'd rather buy an all in one package for more money than single pedals?

  • or a Boss GT-8

  • A lot of pedals can be versatile as long as you set it up right.

I can even play soft rock on my Boss "Metal Zone MT-2" which is basically meant to play heavy metal.

it comes with a small booklet with a few presets, with anything from classic rock to deathmetal :p

You might want to play that in a store sometime, see if you like what it can do.

  • Hey Justin, you have 2 GG-202 vids O.o? :D but it doesn't matter, they're great videos all!

  • i named it wrong - it's fixed now :) cheers. J

  • Haha, it's ok, I thought so, it's OK with me, but just wanted to let you know ^^

  • Nicely done. Your channel and website have really helped me with learning guitar. These gadget -and other rewiews are also very useful. Keep up the good work!

  • cool

  • another fine review Justin.

    -good day to you.

    later,

    XEM

  • but dosent look good

  • WHO CARES HOW IT LOOKS !

  • i think it looks cool anyway. so ha

  • sounds good
