Baltimore County just switched from an analog trunked system to a P25 system. I can not pick up anything now. If I am fortunate to pick up something, it sounds like it's under water. I'm so frustrated!
Most Radio Shack stores are more than happy to program these scanners for free. All they do is take their display model PRO-106 that's already programmed and use it to "clone" PRO-106 scanners that customers bring in needing programmed. It involves hooking both scanners up via a simple data cable and only takes a few seconds to do. Of course you'll eventually want to learn how to program it yourself, but Radio Shack stores will help you get going from the beginning.

Thanks for a clear explanation. Tried on the pro-197 (base model). Scans without any signal though. I see all channels have been saved, but nothing heard. Guess it's back to drawing board for me.
One thing im wondering, When i try to input a frequency, It will go to a diff frequency instead.
So out of about 30+ frequency's i found for my city, I can only tune to about 6 of them +1 that is not listed anywhere on the net, But seems to pick up the most amount of traffic..
I have about 30 or so frequencies programmed in CONV. My 106 works great then, but I can't pick up anything under my signal stalker, even with it scanning the full frequency range.

@4:20 you talk about frequencies, what if the listing on radio referance does not list the control for a system and all you have the FCC urls listing. Then how do you program the system in?
Man I hate to tell you this but you're spinning your wheels,the only frequency that you have to program for each city are the control channels which are the frequencies in red.Once you do this you will see that it is the only frequency that you will need to program.The scanner will then begin to trunk through the rest of the frequencies from this one control channel.Just trying to help make programing a little faster.

I have a question in my city there are 10 Frequency that all are Trunking radio system
and there are 21 Talkgroups any where from police fire an so on if I put the Frq in that are for my city how many of those talk groups on that 1 bank with those 10 frq can I put in are do I have to put in all those frq for each bank there are about talkgroups I want to listion too thanks
Thank you, very good video. But you did assume a little bit, especially as to what buttons you push (sometimes). Backup a little from the radio in the video.
But believe me I was thrilled to find this. The manual is terrible as as usual.

I have the radio shack pro-528 Is there ANYWAY you can make a video showing how to program it? I found the manual online but for the life of me I am still having problems. For example..If comes pre-programmed with certain frequencies. But when manually scanning through all the banks I cannot find them.Nor can I manually store them..I am ready to give up...
What if the system type is something other than the ones that are offered on the scanner? The system here is a Motorola SmartZone, and that isn't offered as a choice on the sysytem types on the scanner.

I really need help programing my RS PRO106. I have my local county programed in which was very easy watching your videos. I have tried many imes to program in the state police under a different talkgroup but have no luck I set it for tgrp 2 but all I get is nothing enabled. what am I doing wrong????
i like the style of the radioshack model, but the uniden bcd396t and XT is still easier and faster to program, due to the added menu and control nob at the top. audio in the uniden lacks quality in both digital and analog mode.
where do you find a list of the repeaters? i looked,but im not sure how to do it if you could help that would be great i got this from the ann arbor radioshack and no one there knows any thing about this scanner. i got the scanner and the cable and i payed for the scan cat pro software and i can't find any one to help im 17 so i can't drive all over to find some one to help with a hobby of mine. if you could help that would be great. if you want you can email me thats better thanks again.
i had a scanner that stopped working because it was too old and the police changed to a higher freq. i bought the rs pro106 to finally hear it again and now i totally need help. Im looking for the englewood police. in arapahoe county colorado. i hear it on the live stream but not on my scanner =( please help

How would you program P25 onto a scanner that doesn't have a P25 option? Like a Pro 163. It only has Motorola and other ones, but not P25.

I just entered the control channels when I programed my pro 106.. Im pretty sure you dont need to enter every freq the system uses.
