I agree with the "amazing" part of the poster's description - but I'm wondering about the "wood and wind masters" part - I don't see a single wind instrument - much less a woodwind. Of course most string instruments are made of wood, but that doesn't make much sense, since almost all instruments except the brass winds are ...
@dragonsrightwing This band is Estradasphere. Probably THE hardest band to define in the history of modern music, let alone describe. It`s confusing If this is the only song you have heard from them . This band has tons of music featuring funky sax, trumpet, english horn and various woodwinds. Then suddenly they`re a string quartet, and before you know it a full fledged Death Metal onslaght and again without warning they are Jazz or gypsy folk orJapanese traditional shamisen or koto, etc.
@koitoyoutatote Yes, that's probably the best way to describe this band. I think i'ts absolutely great. And I wish I could see them in concert someday.
Nooooo man... Bungle were an insipration for Estradasphere, and they work with Trey. Disco Volante has his own thing. And they didn't ripped off Estradasphere, they're different.
true, Trey is a cool dude. But I still feel like Disco Volante isn't that great, it just seems like a big mess. Estradasphere's stuff at least has some kind of structure.
Thats what I love of Disco Volante, the songs have this uncontrolled feel. The song Platypus off of the album is a perfect example of this. The songs feel like they don't follow any particular rythm structure or form, yet the band still can play the song perfectly.
I haven't heard much of Estradsphere yet, but from the looks of it, they are both great, but different bands that experiment with music alot.
estradasphere is more technically impressive than bungle. but in terms of the musical originality and diversity bungle is king. timb harris does violin work for sc3 and many of the members of the band have connections to sc3. theyre all connected in one way or another.
I agree with eyehatepop I don't care if someone sound like Mr Bungle.. A least they inspired a buch of bands before they packed it in. I'm so glad we have the Sleepyhead Gorilla Museum and Unexpect and so that continued in an adventurous manner musically
I think they are better then bungle. And by the way Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant are better then them all. All incredible bands and worthy in their own accord.
Please don't nobody comment on this if you disagree with me an want to flame me because I won't waste my time replying.
Actually, I agree with the Zappa part of your argument. To have written as much as he did, with the technical aspect of his music being so great that it challenged and continues to challenge even the most adept musicians, he is the king. But, music is adaptive, responsive and progressing all the time. And, every musical form has its merits. As an art form, what is most important that the creator of music connect to the receiver. That is what is most important; it must have an emotional response.
People may say that they're a Bungle rip off and that may be true, to a certain extent, but I'd rather have Bungle-reincarnated/copied than no Bungle at all. Long Live Bungle!
Bungle wasnt even the band who started this. Go back to the early 70's and youll find plenty. Plus all the bands like bungle, secret chiefs, fantomas, estradasphere, and so on, are all connected and will guest appear or be in other bands. for instance TREY SPRAUNCE. In any given time they've all worked together.
it's amazing some of the stuff that people can come up with

I like Estradasphere and Bungle the same, but I love Estradasphere for their elaborate instrumental work. No one can do it like them.
and I don't think they ripped off Bungle at all /:
any Estradasphere album is better than Disco Volante.
