Thanks for the encouraging comment. Cheers. Trivia: Buddy never owned a 57 strat. He had a 56 strat and a couple of 58s after the original one was stolen after a gig. The one I am playing is a '57. One of two I own.
Hey thanks alot for the lessons you do a great job. Keep it up with the Buddy Holly stuff. Surprisingly there's hardly any music books on Him, and no instructional DVDs. Is that a '57 strat like what Buddy would have played? Anyway. there's quite a few Buddy Holly songs I'm struggling to learn like "listen to me" and "midnight shift" "Blue days black nights" (his less popular ones) and I can't find tabs anywhere.
Great work! I am trying to figure out "exactly" how he did the palm mute part that you played at 3:40. I think you are very close, but not spot on. I actually slowed the song down to hear the notes perfectly & this is what I got:
A|----7-------5--------4p0-----2--|
E|0-----7p0-----7p0-------0------|
So I suppose my question is, what is your source and would you be willing to say my revision is correct? I've based it off of one video (v=VpYe07E2MBs) and the audio on Buddy's Greatest Hits.
The strumming pattern is pretty simple. On the backing track I am simply strumming "One two and three four and". Or put anther way; One quarter note, two eighth notes, then one quarter note and two eighth notes. That is for the rhythm guitar. Watch the lesson carefully for the lead bit. :)
Thanks - I own two strats - The one on this video is the MIJ 1957 reissue which I gig with. The other is a USA 54 reissue (40th anniversary) which I am scared to take out of the house!
I've watched three of your lessons. Your lessons are a Godsend! I have a good buddy holly tab book but I find tabs to be so time consuming and frustrating. A visual explanation like this can cut the time in half to learn of these songs. Thanks for the tremendous care and consideration that you put in these lessons, they really are a gift to musicians everywhere. What a great contribution!
Thank you Tristan. Your kind comment is very much appreciated. I am hoping to get some more Buddy Holly tutorials up in the next month or two - he is one of my favorites. If you gain something from these, it makes putting them together worthwhile.
Yes - you are correct - I have two of these - one USA and the other MIJ. The one I am playing in the tutorial is the Japanese reissue. A fine playing guitar, although when it comes to guitars my favs are the genuine G&Ls
