Ég kýs þetta sem þjóðsöng yfir núverandi þjóðsöng.
Mér finnst Ó Guð vors lands ekki passa við Ísland eða Íslendinga og sérstaklega eftir að mörg hundruð manns skráðu sig úr þjóðkirkjunni. Það er allavega lýsandi dæmi yfir því hve margir Íslendingar eru trúleysingjar eða annarar trúar og því ætti þjóðsöngurinn okkar ekki að lofa Kristnum Guði heldur landinu okkar.
I m half Icelandic, half French, I came many times in Iceland. What an incredible country! It s so peaceful, everytime I go there I m like in a dream. The crise caused many damages but it s nothing because Icelandic people aren't crazy. The most important is peace. If we had the same damages in France, we would have a civil war or a bloody revolution again!
One must just learn to take the bad with the good. Anyway, it seems you appreciate the country more than many icelanders do, or you probably wouldn't have gone through the effort of translating the lyrics. I stumbled on it by chance and it brought patriotic tears to my eyes. Þakka þér kærlega fyrir framtakið. (Part 3 of 3)
Yes, I am well aware of the recent economic catastrophe in the country - but things are bound to improve. However, some icelanders are negative about their country in good times as well as bad and tend to think the grass is greener everywhere else. There's no question things can be made better there, but the same can be said of any other place on the planet. (Part 2 of 3)
Thank you for translating this beautiful lyric into English, Politihung. You did a pretty good job on it. I am an Icelander living in the US (for over 22 years now) and while the US is certainly a good place in which to live, I am and will always be a proud Icelander. I absolutely love my country and plan to move back there in future. Unfortunately, many of my fellow countrymen don't always realize how good they have it there. (Part 1 of 3)
why doesn't the Icelandic government change the anthem into this song? That's the most beautiful love-song and honour towards a country I've ever heard. Most national anthems are about war, this is simply a love-song to Iceland. And it was written when Iceland became independent, why don't they chose this?
Frábært lag. En ég HATA þegar fólk er að vanvirða þjóðsönginn okkar og biðja um þetta í staðinn. Leyfum þessu lagi bara að vera það sem það er og höldum þjóðsöngum !!!

Why does Iceland continue to kill whales?
-They do it in a pathetic attempt to hold onto the past so that they can continue to identify with their bloody legacy of whaling
-It is a blood sport to them and a way of indulging in the sadistic pleasure of killing whales and thumbing their noses at other nations.
-Killing whales is the pursuit of little people with small minds with a lust to destroy creatures more intelligent and more beautiful than themselves.
@tundrasheep please don't tell me what I eat or what the history of my country is, thank you. A beached whale was considered a gift from God and could save the lives of up to 200 people. We don't kill whales for pleasure, we don´t butcher them despite your conviction otherwise, it's not a bloodsport it's a business and noone without a licence can hunt them, and we don´t "thump our noses at other nations". For you to decide what other nationalities do or don´t is egotistical, ignorant and rude.
@tundrasheep Afhverju þarftu að skrifa þessi leiðinda comment á hvert einasta andskotans myndband sem tengist Íslandi á einhvern hátt. Er alveg kominn með upp í kok á að sjá þetta í hvert sinn sem ég skoða einhvað tengt Íslandi. Ég er nú líka bara næstum því viss að þú sért einhver bitur útlendingur sem veist ekkert um þetta. Hvalur er ekki matur sem maður skóflar í sig hverjum einasta degi, ég tel hann vera fyrir sértök tilefni enda algjört lostæti.
szija ! do you have the mp3 of this beautiful song ? is there any chance you could send it yo me ? i had been living on iceland for some time and have felt in love with this wonderful and bizzare piece of stone on the periphery of the atlantic... anyhow, great vid and photos ! greetings from slovakia !
Við verðum að muna og byggja áfram á því Íslandi sem forfeður okkar byggðu. Það er sá andi sem kemur fram í þessu lagi og mér finnst gott að vera minnt á það, sérstaklega á þessum tímum.

oh really ? how many times per year do you eat whale meat or consume whale products ?
the majority of Icelanders eat chicken, pork and beef. traditional foods were fish, lamb and horse but those are on the decline.
whale meat is eaten on rare occasions, and is usually done in some lame attempt to show national pride.
