The seas were once brimming with millions of cod when the seal population was at its highest. The original seal population when the settlers arrived was close to 40 million and there were plenty of cod. Now cod and other species have collapsed, with less than three million seals that are decling rapidly in numbers. DFO's "management" plan still allows for the numbers to drop very very far below the lowest level it has reached, 1.8 million in the 1970's. Canada's DFO is a terrorist organisation.

This campaign is for the impressionable and ignorant. Canada hasn't killed 350,000 harp seals in more than 5 years and the hunting of the "white coats" is illegal here. The EU's own European Food Safety Authority dismissed the "skinned alive" thing last December and the majority of seals aren't even clubbed - They're shot with riffles. There are over 5 million harp seals and this number is growing so they aren't close to being endangered.

Well, it bears repeating since you repeat rhetoric and disinformation. You even dismissed the WWF's findings on the hunt and Greenpeace's studies of the cod situation in the North Atlantic and North Sea. Your "evidence" had been doctored in the past so it is quite normal to be critical of it.

In 2001 sealers slaughtered 275,000 seals.

In 2002 it was 312,000 seals.

In 2003 it was 284,000 seals.

In 2004 it was 366,000 seals.

In 2005 it was 318,000 seals.

The numbers keep increasing every year, while the seal population keeps declining.

Then there is what fishermen refer to as 'struck and lost', seals that slip into the icy water. For every seal reported killed 1 goes unreported. This would easily make the number of seals killed since 2001 over 3 million.

Red Lobster is the top seafood restaurant in the US and the worlds largest purchaser of Canada seafood Red Lobster purchases lobster shrimp crab scallops and salmon that are caught by those who also club and torture baby seals for sport
