  • I can't believe SEPTA replaced these buses with those crapy Nabi buses. GMC RTS ll were one of the best buses

  • it sounds like those toy cars that you rev up. But I remember these from when I was little.

  • This is how you can tell which bus is coming, A weirdish noise, RTS, anything else, who cares

  • The RTS 03 had a few different variations such as this, the 40ft slope backs, and square backs such as what Green Lines RTS 03's were.

  • when i was a kid i was smiling when i finally saw these new buses. these were statee of the art compare to the buses they had before then. and the trolleys in phila are just as old.

  • Busses should be replaced by trolleys wherever possible.

  • haha bus geeks!!

  • @MrZol Yo bet!

  • memories....I remember when they were the new ones...my pop ordered parts fr these for 35 yrs.............lol.............in Kuwait ...things you miss about home...PA all day

  • I need to get myself one of those!

  • Now thats how a real bus should sound

  • This years SEPTA roadeo the GMC RTS was still there after seeing pictures and video of this years roadeo.

  • 6v92. They originally came with the 6v72 but were given the 6v92 when they were overhauled.

  • I miss these buses!!!

  • i killing three of these buses right now get a hold of me for parts

  • are they slope backs and post a video before you scrap them

  • The lower grid panel is where the transmission is. Other side is the radiator.

  • The RTS !!! They were hell to work on

  • these where great buses, however if you road one from Allegheny depo around 1990 they where roach infested...

  • They were roach infested because of the scum that ride buses, you know that don't you?

  • In other words, I like it :)

  • Sounds just like the GM Classics we still run in daily service up in Canada.

  • wow looking at this bus reminds me of when I was a kid riding these and all kinds of buses & trains.good times ,good times

  • The engines are killing themselves, lol!

  • What in the world is that whine sound that RTS buses have had since the beginning. Even NovaBus RTS whine in the same fashion, with Detroit Diesel Series 50 engines and Allison V-731's. Watch my "#9346 really whines" video from 2 months ago to hear a really striking similarity to this SEPTA bus.

What is this RTS whine from? I love it.

  • Supposedly from what I was told was that it is coming from the Allison V-Drive.

  • Would the whine be coming from the flyweel/adapter, converter, gear box, or propeller shaft? The V-drive answer is probably correct because the whine is always on the right rear of the coach.

  • Since in this video you can here it revving at idle I'd have to guess it is something to do with the transmission front pump of the V-Drive, which would be in the converter area. I don't work on big buses for a living, just a guess from my automotive knowledge.

  • TURBO CHARGER AND EXHAUST

  • Naw. It can't be the exhaust; that's for sure. Part of the sound is the turbo, but only a small part. For example, listen to a 6V-92TA with an Allison - the classic sound! If you change it to a ZF or Voith, it doesn't sound like this anymore. It's the Allison V series with it's PTO compressor drive.

  • i love the way they sound new jersey transit flex buses sound just like them.

  • lol woow

  • the thing sounds SICK!!!!!

  • the blower on the turbo charger is gone bad lol

  • i was on dat bus in 07 at the septa bus rodeo

  • I remember when these "new" buses came out...You couldnt tell me that this wasnt the future. LOL!!!

  • The smoke and noise is WHY they rock

  • MCTS Buses uses to have the same look like SEPTA ares was 1980 GM RTS's T8J, & T8H-203 Fleet Number was 3100-3218, 3219-3225, & 3226-3249. They uses to have a Wheelchair Lift on the Back of the RTS's, MCTS Driver had to use a Key to Operated the lift. Then MCTS Maintenance had to Remodel the RTS's then took out the Rolled Destination Sign then added the Electronic Destination Sign. I uses to ride on the RTS's on Route 21, 30, 35, & 60.

  • a slope back RTS without a big 8V71N.....what a shock!. Cleveland had 1977 and 1979 models with a few as slope backs....all with 8V71ns!

  • omg I hated those horrible buses. I was a kid when they ran those things, they were incredibly noisy (as you heard) and when they pass you, they leave an iimense plum of choking exaust from which one can't escape, making it impossible to breathe (unless you have your noise inside you shirt! They need to destroy that last one too!!

  • Never mind- Just found another listing for this bus on Ohio Museum of Transportation- Model T7W-603 - 35' long, 96' wide, originally built with a 6V71.

  • The Ohio Museum of Transportation's website has a production list and it states for the 6V92TA buses SEPTA ordered that they are 40' models.

  • They reminded me those tatoo machine buses from hot wheels, i would love to see a full size version of it with that yellow paint job, it would be so cool.

  • thats funny i used to have one they are the same buses lol

  • Wow I like those RTSs with the slanted back

  • think*

  • I was there. I didn't that many ppl would be there.

  • My city used to have the RTS I and II, but I've only ridden the RTS II that has the 8V71 engine at least once before. Unfortunately, all of my 8V71 powered RTS I & II that my city used to have since 1977 & 1980 are now gone... Have you ever ridden the RTS bus that was 8V71 powered before?

  • There was no RTS-I. RTS-II stood for a two-axled RTS. The RTS-III was the transbus.

  • I love GMC RTS II-01 and 03 because of there slope backs. I remeber when the Hartz base at LAX, Gardena and OCTD had these slope backs RTS. I would bend my back and pertend that I was one when I was a kid. The only thing that would make this video better, would be if had a 8V-71.

  • well you sure as hell kept those babies in good condition. Looks brand new!

  • how the hell ya'll get that bus?

  • We have had the buses since 1980

  • who owns that bus anyway?

  • Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority still owns the bus and several other retired buses they keep for show.

  • I wish I had that damn bus! Those are hard to find! But Ill get one godammit.

  • Cool. Wish I could have went to the bus rodeo.

  • Nice one...1980 perhaps?

  • Yes, and among the very first to be equipped with the 6V-92TA, which by then was the preferred choice of power for most transit agencies until Cummins unleashed their L10 in 1983.
