  • AND I SPOKE TO MY FEETS AND SAID BOYS MAKE TRACKS!

  • Wasn't the guy who played Uncle Fred in the Ernest movies?

  • I'd send a get well soon card.

  • the 4 dislikes is from cats that got stepped on

  • Well, when Uncle Fred sat up, so did everyone there! Lol

  • I LOVE Ray Stevens!

  • This was my favorite

  • More like thumbs up if you owned this VHS.

  • @cartelrocks89 How about thumbs up if your grandparents owned this VHS and gave it to you when you got older?

  • Ray stiven is my favret song writer

  • My Aunty was an RN and even walked to homes to lay out the dead. This memory would always be with you.

  • I think that's Bill Byrge. If it is, he also played Bobby in most of the old Earnest (Jim Varney) movies

  • @oldwaylonfan your right it is Bill Byrge.

  • i grew up watching this vhs every damn day of life till it stopped working

  • @ThorMX666 same here! my dad and aunt loved him :)

  • my great grandma remebers buring her granparents like that and her dad was the undertaker the the town

  • But I did!!!!!

  • Lol it's Bobby from the Ernest movies lol.

  • But I did.. Soo funny.

  • What I find ironic is that the concept of this sitting with the deceased is called a "wake" in the first place. LOL Who came up with it?

Its almost as if someone once either expected the deceased to awaken OR they actually did. Oooooo.

(I've never been to one and don't ever plan on it)

    Especially during a storm

    :-)

  • @shadowmixx Yeah...but isn't the "viewing" now take the place of the "wake" that was then? >.>

  • pause at 1:37

  • A childhood classic for me

  • When I pass, I want to have my dead carcass spring-loaded, so this will happen. And I want ONE person (for the sake of argument, my best friend) to be in control of having the springs placed, setting them off so I spring up, and playing this song at the appropriate moment.

  • "Might as well come over and sit beside me, boy, 'cause you ain't gettin' outta here tonight."

    "...but I did."

  • If that happened at anyone's wake, I guarantee, people will clear out in PURE TERROR.

  • Oh, does this bring back the "wakes" I've sat in.

  • In the tradition of oral stories passed down generation to generation, something similar happened in my family. While sitting up with the dearly departed in a dimly candlelit room, the corpse suddenly "sat up", (he had died sitting against a tree). The designated family member, thoroughly scared, took a dive out the window. Too bad he forgot to open the window first.

  • @dusk2dawn001 I read somewhere that on occasions the dead body "Sits up" because of a reaction somewhere in the body. I can't remember any more than that.

  • Lewis Grizzard used to tell this story.

  • when my son was little he LOVED this video (vhs) my mom would play it over and over and over sooo funny... hard to believe my baby will be 20 soon...how time flies...funny how 3 generations can enjoy the same music

  • got this song on cd lol gotta love ray stevens lol

  • 3 people ain't sittin up with the dead...

  • @ftenorio1 Before you start going and calling people dumb-asses, better be sure you know how to spell... and type... Better yet, just go back and take some basic Language classes. You'll be alright. ;) By the way, there's nothing political to do in this video. Go troll somewhere else.

  • Three people didn't manage to get through that kitchen door!

  • if this happend in my family my grandpa would pour him a shot of whiskey.

  • @countrymusicgtavboy2 Something like that happened at a wake my ancestors went to a hundred years ago! They got sloshed and poured liqour down the corpse's throat.

  • "I HOLLERED REV THAT KITCHEN AIN'T GOT NO DOOR IN IT HE SAID DON'T WORRY SON IT WILL HAVE IN A MINUTE!"

  • lol I remember listening to this when I was little. I had all of his videos on VHS and would just sit and watch them all day.

  • the things that undertakers do..... oh yah I am a undertaker and somethings are best not to be known.

  • One has to question the wisdom of cutting through a cemetery when you think that you've just had an encounter with a reanimated corpse. I love this video all the same.

  • I used to have most everything ray Stevens put out from the 70s up to the late 80s before some nefarious rapscallion broke into my place and stole all my cassettes along with other stuff. I want my stuff back but I hope the tapes jam his tape player up and he can't listen to any more.

  • Funny how pretty much all of Rays videos have the same actors in them.

  • I had this on a VHS tape when I was a kid, I could watch every skit on the tape except this one, especially the part where arthritic uncle Fred opens his eyes and looks like he's screaming. No matter how many happy skits I watched after than I still had nightmares!

  • As a kid I had this on VHS and it scared me so bad I wouldn't even sleep in the house knowing it was in the room lmao bad memories lol

  • After watching this as a young young kid it made me nervous to attend open casket funerals. Lol

  • i aint sittin up with the dead no more cause the dead started sittin up too

  • This is the first time I'm listening to this song and I know it's terrible and morbid and poor dear Ray, your childhood must've ended that same night... although I can hear you turned out alright...

But I can't stop laughing. I got tears streamin' down my face laughing so hard.

  • Ha Ha! That's funny when Fred sits up and scares everyone!

  • you better come and sit down by me boy cause you aint gettin outa here 2night..... but I did.

  • @kittycrazy1000 lmao omg i love this song!!!

  • who is the guy playing fred ? ive seen him a few earnest movies (hay better and cleaner that most stuff on tv)

  • @olfox88: I wish I knew who the actor was who played Fred. The face is familiar. A local radio station back then used to play this every Halloween for a couple of years. Unfortunately that local radio station was eventually bought by a conglomerate and now plays modern country music with tight play-lists and no DJ freedom.

  • @ACcountryFan the actor who played Uncle Fred was Bobby on Ernest Saves Christmas, i remember that much! :)

  • @blondieafgirl YEAH, I LOVED THAT MOVIE AND THIS IS MY FAV OF RAY STEVENS

  • @blondieafgirl ............yes...he was as He is my Uncle Bill Byrge..my Grandma's Brother. He is much loved by all the children of the world. He is from TN....& my Mommy met his family when she was 15, at a Motel where they lived in TN....Bill Byrge's sister was the Maid...Mommy met Daddy, Bill Byrge's Nephew. I'm their Baby. I make my son laugh with the same expressions. I am autistic. I love saying of this video "My Uncle is the Dead Guy in the Casket"...yeah.

  • very funny :[]

  • this music video features some of the most elaborate special effects among the many music videos Ray has starred in. it's from 1990 and it's one of two music videos he did that year. The other was "Help Me Make It Through the Night".

  • @ACcountryFan Both of these videos were laugh-out-loud funny! I really enjoyed the way he put a comedic spin on "Help Me Make It Through The Night." I wonder if Kris Kristofferson and Sammi Smith shared my opinions...
