I can't believe I was 3 when this song came out! Sometimes I found myself longing for some good ol' hk pop songs, even though I listen to mostly english songs. This is easily one of my favorites! Thank you for composing such great tune for all of us here to enjoy!
@MyNameIsMeh Most probably, I watched and recorded this off the TV myself. In those days (probably still is?) most artists lip synced on so-called live TV shows.
Thanks Mr Yung for this beautiful song, its so special to see the composer here chatting with us. thanks leslie for performing this song with his charming voice
I totally agree with the previous comments. Absolutely masterpiece, Mr. Yung. I love it since the first time I heard it, and I still love it today - we are talking about 25 years plus !!
It's so great to actually have the composer to chat with us. Mr. Yung thanks for giving us such a memorable song. I'm so sad that Hong Kong music industry has gone all the way down since mid 90s. To me the Hong Kong songs in late 70s to early 90s are the best! Salute to you , Mr. Yung!!!!! thanks !!!
I'm the one who should thank you for digging out this page and actually listen to the songs. I don't have too many Cantonese songs on record... only about 33, in my opinion most of them are ruined by terrible lyrics or murdered in the hands of some incompetent arranger at the time, but now that I'm fast approaching 60 and looking back on it, having retired from the music scene since the early 90s, I am thankful for the opportunity to at least let a few of my meagre efforts be known.
@Jonwucf I totally agree with you! Songs in that period are the best! I hardly listen to any "new" songs since then and it has nothing to do with the fact that I've left the country! :)
@suminexsan I did, but they always say my tunes sound too 鬼佬, hence in 1986, together with my good friend and fellow composer formed the duo "齊成 TsaiShing" and released two albums of our own material with their original English lyrics. You can find a separate youtube page for our band, just copy and paste the name above in "search" above. Hope you like the songs there. Matter of fact, I prefer those to the ones here... anytime! haha
Ahhh~~~ The good old days :) Actually, I don't even know why I'm saying that, I wasn't even around during the 80s... But I guess that shows how far reaching the songs in the 80s are. 30 years on, and still loved. I guess that's why they're called classics :D
I was born in 1986, and I fell in love with this song when I first listened to it in 2009.. A good song can definitely withstand time! It's beautiful! Thank you Mr Yung!
Mr Yung, your works are not numerous but each and every one of them are of the best quality. Thanks for all the memories, music and colour you have brought us ..
Can't find another singer/actor like Leslie Cheung in this world. This song is one of his best song, the music, the words are perfectly match. He is always in my mind-but find anothe one like him.
I agree with you. Furthermore, I feel 80's is the peak of cantopop culture, hk movies, and HK in general. After 1997, HK or cantonese language will become increasingly irrelevant among the chinese community. Sad but true. I am from hk.
Many thanks for uploading the video clip of the performance of Leslie and Eliza of this romantic song. The tune of this song is indeed very beautiful & Leslie's performance was wonderful as usual!
Thank you Mr.Yung. I like this song better than the other one which was a cover version of a Japanese song because this is an original one. But poor Eliza, she looked like a big sister beside the beautiful little prince. I still sing this song whether I go to Karaoke.
Yung Ka Sai, I really like TsaiShing's music. Went to Canada in 1978 and a friend brought me into TsaiShing. I'm glad he introduced your music to me. I still have the casette tape but the sound quality is really bad now..........
Great song. I like it better than the other one which is a cover version of a Japanese song (誰令你心痴). But the matching is a bit odd because Leslie was too beautiful to match Eliza. That was a problem. It was always unfair for female singers that nearly all of them looked like a big sister or mother beside him!
That's the normal practice in those days, probably still is. I mimed to my own songs in TV appearances on several occasions myself, watch them at: youtube/tsaishing
dear mr.Yung, thank u for ccomposing this beautiful song which is one of my favorites. great performence of Leslie and Elisa. i think they turns to be very close friend lately.(mahjung you :)))
You are the composer of this song? This is my all-time favourite canto-pop song. It's so melancholy and the arrangement is beautiful. No one can intepret this song better than Leslie and Eliza. Perhaps, Eason..but can't think of anyone, female, can sing as soulful as Eliza. Thank you for posting this Mr Yung! Hope you can write something so beautiful soon for Eason!!!
Thank You. I've retired from the music scene long time ago, but my nephew, Howie Yung of the Hong Kong rock band "Dear Jane" has taken over now with a more contemporary sound I guess...haha.
But Mancini's a legendary composer and I'm merely some Hong Kong guy who wrote a couple of alright tunes. But thank you for really making my day....haha
You're welcome Mr. Yung. I meant every word and you are very humble. This is an incredible song. It reminds me of Mancini's "Romeo & Juliet" but it has the flavour of Hong Kong's Canto-pop uniqueness. Please consider writing again...
OMG, so you really composed this song. Cheers, you know I heard this song when I was a small boy and I have never forgotten it. It has always been one of my fave Leslie duets.
i'm born in 1990 but i'm in love with this song and the rest of Leslie's songs. Thank you Mr. Yung for this beautiful melody.
