If you sample the osscilating sound from the cannon. Then play it back thru a loudspeaker you can knock the sound out. (What is called cancelation or sonic collision). Also you can reflect the sound back using a sheild, something like a round bbq grill top would work good! and ear plugs! Bring your GEAR! The people should not be afraid of their government, The government should be afraid of its people! Raise the fist !!!
Yeah, let's let the anarchists disrupt everything because there is no absolutely harmless way to stop them from doing so. Isn't modern life wonderful? Especially for lawyers who try to cast everyone as a victim, no matter how much of a selfish or violent A-hole they are in the first place.
what i am worried about is how it could hurt children, infants or others with a low tolerance for such sound, if it causes pain to an adult, and also possible brain damage who's to say it wouldnt kill someone of a young age, they also didnt specify what kind of brain damage which leaves me kinda iffy, theres also lots of footage of it being used as a test on general public not having to do with protests all over the net
well if you had to decide, would you rather be tazed or get some pain to you ear? I would choose the latter. But here's a better question, why not just stay away from riots unless you're a rioter yourself.
This is a very poor idea. Permanent damage could be done to citizens - including people who are not even in the protest but happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is like a bomb (indescrimate and crude).
If the police use this, they will end up with lots of lawsuits which will cost millions.
Very, very poor. idea.
I do sympathize with the police, mind you. They need something to deal with these hoolings. Just the wrong weapon, that's all.
Okay I know this is bad, and I'm sure it could cause long term damage on your ears, because the dumbass pigs probably don't know how to use it and they'd turn it all the way up... But why do people protest at the Olympics again? Confused...
The protest is not about the Olympics exactly. It's about the massive over spending the government does for the Olympics. The Olympics could be held without such grand spending. In all reality, people can host competitions without spending billions of dollars.
There are several reasons why some are protesting. The fact that that money could go to needed housing for the poor or other social services is one big one.
The Police should not be given carte blanche but there is no real reason for people to protest the games now. There is especially no reason for Americans to come to town just to protest. That really annoys me.
While I agree that rich land developers are profiting from the games I really don't see any correlation with the games and the downtown east side and native land issues. As many have stated the protesters are simply using the publicity from the games to further their own goals.
And what about the people that just want to enjoy the party now that they have to pay for it? You know, people that actually work and pay taxes. What right do you have to disrupt the games or worse disrupt the lives of people that don't want the games and simply want to get home from work?
The anti Olympic message is not being silenced in the media and all the venues are secured so whats the point of protests? Threatening peoples safety and disrupting their lives will not win any support now.
@aftpuser I'm totally with you. The raytheon active-denial-system could be on the streets soon (microwave gun aka 'pain ray). To me, the LRAD is the modern version of the firehose, like those used on african-american civil rights protesters in Birmingham. Orwellian stuff...
@johnd94 It's not that people would protest the olympics, it that the olympics gives activists the platform to be heard on the world stage. Obviously, in a time of economic crisis, you could argue spending a billion dollars (on security alone) for the olympics is a waste
@sl1m0thy if that's true I'm glad to hear it- they would not rule it out during that press conference. It seems like a no-brainer to at least come and and say they won't use it, but I doubt they can "disable" the function to use it as a sonic weapon
Of course they intend to use it as a non-lethal weapon against the people.
