  • Has anyone seen a video alt like this one where someone made a setup to watch a complete rotation of jupiter in one night? It's REALLY hard to find :( I forgot the user.

  • This is simply marvelous.

  • Is that a subwoofer in your boot at 2:42? :P

  • Great video (of course)! I hope to go on these kinds of adventures once I get a steady job and/or win the lottery.

P.S. The combination of my education in the French language with my mental maturity of an 11-year old made me giggle at the title of the video. XD

  • I must say that I'm very much enjoying this vicarious trip around the good 'ol US od A.

  • I think they're coyotes.

  • Wow I really need to take a trip out west. Living in the north east we never see that many stars. Maybe you could do a video talking about your telescope setup if you haven't already.

  • oh and the sounds at night were coyotes =)

  • you were near me for a bit

  • lol bought a hairdryer at walmart

  • TF is making me want to rejoin my local astronomy club. I'm fortunate, we have a local club with TWO observatory telescopes. For like $20 a year I could get access to those instruments, and to the collective experience of the other members.

  • very nice

  • @ 0:50 must be a nice place to live

  • Awesome pictures

  • beautiful, as always!

  • The Montana night sky is amazing. Something I''ll never forget.

  • lovly

  • Those 1.5 seconds, I know exactly how much work it took. Fantastic!

  • Does he sleep in his car or set up camp?

  • You always seem to travel alone. Don't you get lonely ?

  • the fuck... thats not your concern.

  • Very nice. I hope I can see a sky like that some day.

  • Another great video!

High on a hilltop was a lonely Thunderf00t

Lay ee odl lay ee odl... okay okay, put down the knife, I'll stop yodeling. ;)

  • @1:42 it's the chupacabras!

  • The Celestron at the planetarium I work at has tracking problems as well. The clutch has been slipping horribly, so it's off for repairs.

  • awesome I love looking up at the night sky

  • Nice footage.

  • Early in the long-exposure "night in montana" starscape, there are a few "shooting stars"--are these man-made satellites, such as the ISS, orbiting the earth? I ask this as an amateur astrologist who doesn't yet own/can't currently afford a telescope :P

These videos are too beautiful for words, tf00t... thanks!!

  • Astrology is that superstitious stuff that pretty much claims that the positions of celestial objects effects human affairs matters.

Astronomy is the study of celestial objects and surely what you really meant to say.

Shooting stars are pretty much meteoroids burning up in the up in the atmosphere. Man-made satellites are not visible from the ground and are well away from the atmosphere in their orbits.

  • "Man-made satellites are not visible from the ground and are well away from the atmosphere in their orbits."

Not with the naked eye, but you can see artificial satellites with a decent pair of binoculars. Just watch any part of the sky at night and be patient; eventually a satellite will cross your field of view.

  • I tell people that all the time when they get them mixed up... so I feel even stupider after I said it myself. Way stupider.

And I remember hearing how it was a big deal when MIR was visible flying overhead, so I was just curious.

Thanks for the correction, and the bit of info :)

  • woo! Rocky <3

  • Hear those coyotes in the distance, they are planning revenge on TF for killing one of their brothers earlier in the trip.

  • Wow... now that's a knife!

  • Wonderful view of Jupiter-the whole video is great. My daughter is watching them with me now (I got her caught up on your past vids for this trip.) She said to tell you that your vids are awesome. : )

  • Amazing - as always! :)

  • So I've kipped down here...

    WITH MY KNIFE >:D

    Haha.

  • thx for this, your astronomy video's are awesome.

  • Coyotes!!!! lol.

Doesn't it blow your mind to watch another planet rotating 483,711,400 miles away? Wow that totally blows my socks off.

Simply amazing - Thanks again TF. I do truly enjoy your videos - thanks for adding some actual Content to this site.

  • Me and Carl Sagan agree, 5 (billion) stars for you and the vid.

  • As for the coyotes, mark a few points of your territory, I think the testosterone in your newspaper will discourage them from introducing themselves, Ive had success doing that camping in Idaho once, then again in AronRa's Five Facts clip, coyotes have that burly bloke's pucker factor going and he sounds like someone who knows animals!

  • Before reading comments I was thinking the same thing =) .....uh Hello awsome thunderf00t

  • Ahhhh....big titties national park. Beautiful place!

    Those are coyotes yipping.

So, do you normally sleep on the ground, or in the car? I imagine with all the driving in the day and telescope monitoring at night, and video editing and uploading inbetween, you must feel like a zombie somtimes.

  • The stars are just so beautiful.

  • I feel like if I randomly go climbing some desolate hills I am DEFinitely going to find thunderf00t on top xD

  • Yep, that was the coyotes coming to find out what happened the their cousin. If their around you the next night, look out!

    Nice footage.

  • WOO!!! You're so close to Logan, UT, you might as well drop in!

  • cool

  • Sounds like coyotes to me.

  • Amazing! :)

  • Wow. I didn't know you could see stuff like nebulas just from a small telescope like that. Really cool!

  • best quote ever "sorta kipped down here... with my knife."

  • Thanks so much, really appreciate the opportunity to share your adventure.

  • I was there last month...:)

  • Gawd created those nebulae so we would be dutifully impressed by them even though the Babble does not mention them. And Gawd created them 6,000 years ago with together with light that appears to be 450 billion years old.

That Gawd. What a jester, eh? Creates lots of evidence that contradicts the Old Testicles and the New Testicles and demands that we believe one or other of them or He will torture us forever.

Gawd was created in Dick Cheney's image.

  • Why the fuck are you whispering?

  • brilliant montana sky, the best yet.

  • My kids and I were on that pass just three weeks ago, after camping for the night at Gros Ventre. We heard the coyotes calling, as well. My oldest was disappointed, as he wanted to see or hear a wolf.

  • That's coyote yipping. They are hunting in small bands and each one is essentially communicating info on nearby prey to each other. Once they get a kill, boy you know it! The echo sort of yipping goes into a full on orgy of barking, yipping and squealing. They really are harmless to humans, so long as they aren't rabid.

  • i wouldn't go in da woods alone without a boomstick.

  • Roger the shrubber.

  • I wish i had a telescope that good. I can't even seem to make out the crab nebula with my 5 inch Newtonian and all the gods damned light pollution around here.

  • Isn't all this driving on dirt roads ruining your telescope's collimation?

  • Only takes 10 minutes to collimate it when you set it up for the night.

  • Oh yeah... He doesn't have to deal with his diagonal banging around! I gots to get me an SCT.

  • Thunderf00t u really are an inspiration!

  • whenever I hear someone say "shrubbery" I think of Monty Python

  • +1 :)

  • Is it not used in American English?

    *wants to learn*

  • not much. We mostly refer to as "bushes" or "hedges"

  • Thank you.

  • I hear that coyote sound every night here in Northeastern Kansas. Sometimes they get really close to the house.

  • Coyote pack in background

  • hey!!!! the horse head nebul. cool, exploring that in mass effect right now!!!

  • Great video, I would like to see more footage of the stars and sky though 0_0

  • I was at the tetons like 2 weeks ago, amazing place.

  • you should have eaten one of those deer...

  • Impressive effort! Thanks!

  • Great pics!!!

don't worry about the coyotes, they're just a nuisance, it's the wolves and bears that I would be a lot more concerned about!

  • This is the best vacation I've ever been on

  • nice as always.

  • coyotes. they make an ungodly racket, but they're harmless.

i dont know how much good that little knife would have done against the evil wargs there bilbo.

  • i must ask... isn't it incredably uncomphortable to sleep in your car? i remember i did that a couple of times when i was getting tiered on long road trips. i imagine you experience the same?

  • Not if you can set yourself up properly, with all the cushions, blankets, and other comforts.

  • Thanks Tf00t. It's obvious you put a lot of time and effort into your videos. The Jupiter footage turned out nice.

  • Hey, Thunderf00t can see Jupiter from his house! By the Palin Law of Edumicashun he's an astronaut!

  • Telescope.. check.

    Laptop.. check.

    Camera.. check.

    Massive fuckin' knife.. check!

  • rocky music and a jhon rambo knive lol.

  • Awesome footage of the night sky!

  • I was born in Jackson!

  • you need a pitbull like i have!!!!!!! beautiful unless try to you harm me......

  • Man I love those time lapses of the night sky, keep up the good work and more time lapses !!!

  • how does he sleep? Tf00t owNs!

  • 5:15 is beautiful, nebuli are so serene.

  • I couldn't hear them well, but it sounded like coyotes to me. Or possibly wolves, given where you are, but I bet coyotes.

  • Definitely 'yotes. Wolves don't "yip" like 'yotes do.

  • Wonderful my friend. I used to live like this for months at a time. I miss those days. Peace.

  • how did you live?

  • Another awesome vid TF! Looking forward to more, keep up the great work.

  • Those are either wolves or coyotes. Your astronomy footage is nice as well.

  • They're coyotes. There are packs living in my area, with one not to far from my house. Annoying in the middle of the night when you have to be up at 6 am.

  • That was probably a bear, as they snort. They are usually just curious. The one I ran into snorted and ran away. They are very fast. Mountain Lions are what you must be carefull of, as they hunt humans sometimes.

  • As always, great stuff.

Thanks for journaling your travels for others to enjoy!

    It is greatly appreciated.

  • The Tetons look interesting, I have equipment running in the background so I cannot hear the "howls" at the moment, but I'm curious. So to speak.

  • Wonderful series!

  • Jupiter rotating turned out very good really!
