Has anyone seen a video alt like this one where someone made a setup to watch a complete rotation of jupiter in one night? It's REALLY hard to find :( I forgot the user.
Wow I really need to take a trip out west. Living in the north east we never see that many stars. Maybe you could do a video talking about your telescope setup if you haven't already.
TF is making me want to rejoin my local astronomy club. I'm fortunate, we have a local club with TWO observatory telescopes. For like $20 a year I could get access to those instruments, and to the collective experience of the other members.
Early in the long-exposure "night in montana" starscape, there are a few "shooting stars"--are these man-made satellites, such as the ISS, orbiting the earth? I ask this as an amateur astrologist who doesn't yet own/can't currently afford a telescope :P
These videos are too beautiful for words, tf00t... thanks!!
Astrology is that superstitious stuff that pretty much claims that the positions of celestial objects effects human affairs matters.
Astronomy is the study of celestial objects and surely what you really meant to say.
Shooting stars are pretty much meteoroids burning up in the up in the atmosphere. Man-made satellites are not visible from the ground and are well away from the atmosphere in their orbits.
"Man-made satellites are not visible from the ground and are well away from the atmosphere in their orbits."
Not with the naked eye, but you can see artificial satellites with a decent pair of binoculars. Just watch any part of the sky at night and be patient; eventually a satellite will cross your field of view.
Wonderful view of Jupiter-the whole video is great. My daughter is watching them with me now (I got her caught up on your past vids for this trip.) She said to tell you that your vids are awesome. : )
As for the coyotes, mark a few points of your territory, I think the testosterone in your newspaper will discourage them from introducing themselves, Ive had success doing that camping in Idaho once, then again in AronRa's Five Facts clip, coyotes have that burly bloke's pucker factor going and he sounds like someone who knows animals!
Ahhhh....big titties national park. Beautiful place!
Those are coyotes yipping.
So, do you normally sleep on the ground, or in the car? I imagine with all the driving in the day and telescope monitoring at night, and video editing and uploading inbetween, you must feel like a zombie somtimes.
Gawd created those nebulae so we would be dutifully impressed by them even though the Babble does not mention them. And Gawd created them 6,000 years ago with together with light that appears to be 450 billion years old.
That Gawd. What a jester, eh? Creates lots of evidence that contradicts the Old Testicles and the New Testicles and demands that we believe one or other of them or He will torture us forever.
My kids and I were on that pass just three weeks ago, after camping for the night at Gros Ventre. We heard the coyotes calling, as well. My oldest was disappointed, as he wanted to see or hear a wolf.
That's coyote yipping. They are hunting in small bands and each one is essentially communicating info on nearby prey to each other. Once they get a kill, boy you know it! The echo sort of yipping goes into a full on orgy of barking, yipping and squealing. They really are harmless to humans, so long as they aren't rabid.
I wish i had a telescope that good. I can't even seem to make out the crab nebula with my 5 inch Newtonian and all the gods damned light pollution around here.
i must ask... isn't it incredably uncomphortable to sleep in your car? i remember i did that a couple of times when i was getting tiered on long road trips. i imagine you experience the same?
They're coyotes. There are packs living in my area, with one not to far from my house. Annoying in the middle of the night when you have to be up at 6 am.
That was probably a bear, as they snort. They are usually just curious. The one I ran into snorted and ran away. They are very fast. Mountain Lions are what you must be carefull of, as they hunt humans sometimes.

Great video (of course)! I hope to go on these kinds of adventures once I get a steady job and/or win the lottery.
P.S. The combination of my education in the French language with my mental maturity of an 11-year old made me giggle at the title of the video. XD

I tell people that all the time when they get them mixed up... so I feel even stupider after I said it myself. Way stupider.
And I remember hearing how it was a big deal when MIR was visible flying overhead, so I was just curious.
Thanks for the correction, and the bit of info :)
