  • AMAZING

  • what is the name of the song?

  • @chidop song & dance is Gion Kouta.

  • Dance is Gion Kouta.

  • is your film out? i want to see it!

  • 美しい!!

  • love-love-love!!

  • I want to see that film. Where i could find it?

  • the green is the maiko

  • i want download this film... but i can't find...

  • Even without the costuming, you can really tell who is the geiko and who is the maiko...the geiko looks so much more fluid and confident. More expressive, too, quite lovely.

  • I like this video. Im going to use it for my Japanese extra credit project. :)

  • @faefae44 I like Geisha in general but it is something about Maiko....they are so colorful and they are showing the colors of life and so young....they are like flowers in bloom.

  • I am just in love with Teruyuki-san's obi!

  • :)

  • <3

  • I'm in love with Teruyuki's kimono! Butterflies are my favourite motif <3

  • Anyone knows who's singing? I love her style and voice. Amazing...

  • Zoom out...this cameraman.... /sigh I missed out on half of the dance.

  • I suppose you had to be there; no, really, very nice !

    .

I like the piano thing accompaniment, too bad we didn't see her playing it.

    .

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • es muy bueno

  • da music is sooo peaceful. so natural... so beautiful n so wonderful. they r both sooo pretty n dance so gracefull . da dance is like an art representing da legacy of beautiful Japan. thanx 4 sharin.

  • Thank you so much! This is very beautiful!

  • Compared the Mons of the maiko to the Hanafusa house in Miyagawa-cho. Exactly the same. hmmm i wonder if they lent this one out or even borrowed from the Tama okiya whom I hear is collecting Maiko obi from other different okyia.

  • i wanna see that film o.o

  • i love the music but i dont like the dance.... its... strange

  • Tengu? As in a bird demon or as a god?

  • very beautiful.... thanks for sharing this with us.

  • Maikos are so much more beautiful than geikos, over all :)

  • @kattmat, its just your opinion. Haha. My opinion is that I enjoy the sight of geikos more because they seem 'put together'. Everyone has their own likes... :]

  • @kattmat Ahh but Geiko are much more elegant and uphold what is considered most beautiful to the Japanese Aesthetic =p

  • 2:12 jakie oooczy. ;d

  • Love the dance and both the geisha and maiko are very beautiful. I found myself paying less attention to the dance and mostly listening to the Shamisen music though. I just love the sound of a Shamisen I want to own one (I bet they are quite pricey lol)

  • the maiko is green and the geisha is blue

  • oh, I'm so absolutely in love with their hand movements (I think it's the most beautiful part of Japanese Dancing (*-*))

  • The maiko's sash is very beautiful. Also I think that blue works well on that geisha.

  • Great! I wish i could watch it in real.

  • it makes me happy to see real geisha for once. :) the maiko's kimono is beautiful.

  • Sensational. I respect the work of Geishas very much. Japan feels like another planet, sometimes, I mean that in the best possible way.

  • this song is very popular. whats its name?

  • @HSamaUP

    Gion Kouta

  • @HSamaUP "Gion Kouta" ..in case no one replied already.

  • Can anyone please tell me what this song is about??

  • @Megawatkins This song is called the 'Gion Kouta' or the 'Ballad of Gion'- an ode to the exotic beauty and captivating charm of the Geisha district of Gion in Kyoto. Here's my attempt at translating the first stanza- 'The half-hidden moon is visible beyond the eastern mountains/the signal-fire hidden behind a smoky haze/the crimson cherry blossom trees invite me in my dreams/a secret love flares in me for your long sleeved kimono/Oh my beloved Gion, oh that beautiful silk sash.

  • @Megawatkins it's "Gion Kouta". you can find the lyrics online

  • @Megawatkins The song Gion Kouta is about the Maiko's Darari Obi (long flowing sash).

  • piękny taniec,fascynująca kultura:)

  • Beautiful singing, dancing & maiko

  • The geisha sing has such a powerful big beautiful voice. And the dancing was glamorous

  • where can i see this movie tengu?

  • the woman in blue seems a boy...

  • Yeah, in Kabuki, the dudes dress like women, but geisha are supposed to be women.

  • wow.... faszinierend! (°.°)

  • well i hope its really a girl some are mistaken to be a girl then its a guy but the dance is great

  • Absolutely gorgeous..

  • some one does know the name of this dance? i've heard (and seen) this one before!

  • It's Gion Kouta.

    It's pretty much a staple.

  • I bet when they turn around they make ugly faces!^^ LOL

  • sehr schön,wunderbar Roger!

  • cool

  • Teruyuki quit her life as a Maiko on December 25th. I'm going to miss her. :(

  • Beautiful video. Thanks 4 sharing.

  • so beautiful dance and voise. thanks for information that it was Fukumomo singing.

  • What a beautiful voice. I never knew Fukumomo sang like that.

  • Then again, this isn't the whole dance.

  • at 1:33 right?! haha i saw it

  • yup! the first time i saw it i had to play it back im like no way a geiko accually messed up!

  • the geiko messes up...... and thy say only new maiko mess up.lol

  • This is really unusual for a geiko I think, and Terukoma (geiko's name) is quite old and skilled for making so big mistake in gion kouta :D

  • I actually thinks it's cool that she made a mistake, it makes her more human... and, I suppose it's because I also don't feel so bad myself when I make mistakes at things like Kimono dressing and Tea Ceremony, knowing that no matter how skilled one can get, there's still always going to be the mindless moment. Besides, I also thought it was rather cute.

  • when I was 5 years old I was so scared to that kind of women

  • that maiko is dressed in my favorite color!

  • Very beautiful film...

  • OOh :) thank you sooo much for high-quality Gion Kouta!!! Kawaiii!!! I love the way that the geisha alway looks at maiko-sans darari obi. It is when the geisha who is playing shamisen and sings 'Gion koishiya darari obi yo'... It always looks so interesting

  • The geiko is Terukoma and the maiko is Teruyuki. They are both very beautiful.

  • Thanks for pointing out their names.

  • No problem, the geiko in green, though, I could not tell who she was. Hopefully someone could come here and identify her. But I liked her singing as well. Let us know when the Doc is released

  • @Dame: The Jikata Geiko is Fukumomo.

This is one of the best "Gion Kouta" videos I've seen on youtube. Ookini!

  • You are welcome! And Ooki ni you for your nice comment.

  • @DameDiabolique Is Terukoma In the blue kimono or green?

  • @DameDiabolique i thought the maiko was Kikuyu..?

  • as far as I know, (And Im no expert), the maiko is newer to this craft and so she gets to wear more bright colors to draw attention to herself.

The Geisha is the older and so wears darker colors.

  • Teryuki (left) and Terukoma.

a maiko(at left) is an apprentice geisha.

  • Wow! That was a very interesting look into the Japanese culture; thank you! But, I have two questions: why are the dancers dressed so differently? And, what is the difference between a geisha and a maiko? Thank you!
