  • I´m drunk, depressed and I really hate the world right now. This song suits just brilliant...Cheers everyone...

  • Can those with access to the other videos for the Midnight Oil protest show outside Exxon in NYC post them on YouTube? I ask only because the show is not commercially available except for used VHS copies. Thanks for any consideration.

  • When I was today in school we translated this song into German and sung it in English an German...

  • When I was in Year 6(12 years old) Our class studied the lyrics of this song for English! and sung it in a group of three and sing in frount of the hole class and my teacher filmed us and sent it to midnight oil

  • wer ist aus 11.1 Rastbachtal thumbs up! lol

  • They have a DVD called '20,000 Watt RSL' Get it wherever you can. Amazon etc But promise me one thing, Play it LOUD.

  • The Revolution is coming. OCCUPY AUSTRALIA.

  • Right in front of Exxon, just awesome!

  • Thumbs up if you are still listening to this inspiring music in 2011 <3

  • When I was in Year 7 (11 years old) Our class studied the lyrics of this song for English!

  • @alloyz1212 you must've had a teacher that loved this music. I'm a teacher as well, I think I should try that!

  • Amazing Song !!!!!!!!!

  • NIce dancing ;)

  • I don't care want anyone says, Jim Mogine was the brains of this band, after all he wrote most of the songs with Hurst! seen them all over Australia, best aussie band ever ffs

  • @leimanaang. I'm sorry to have to tell you this but Peter Garrett has recently decided not to intervene as Minister for School Education and stop the use of corporal punishment in non-state schools in Australia. In particular the states of Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland. His music will live on but while he has the "power" to change the status quo in Australian non-state schools he doesn't have the "passion" anymore to put his principles of social justice into practise.

  • @sorb1000 I tried to find out what exactly you are talking about.. Couldn't find any news about this. I don't live in Australia and searched the internet for any news about corporal punishment and Peter Garrett but couldn't find anything. Got a web site I could check out? Would be interested to find out whats up =).

    Thanks

  • Even Joe Strummer loved this band.

  • thanks, one of the most moving moments in musical-political history

  • Can't believe people are saying how much Peter Garrett has changed.... He is helping to educate the next gen by being the Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth... He is still out there making a difference!

  • @leimanaang I am so glad to hear that since I keep reading negative comments. I will always love Midnight Oil, my political environmentalists! Peter Garrett will always be A+++++ for me:)

  • Someone put up the whole concert...my DVD is scratched.......

  • ♥ #Liberty ☼ #Libertad ♫ #Freiheit ♪

  • Beautifully crafted music - no rush for lyrics. Even if you don not agree with the heavy left wing polical message this is just a great song. Like most of Midnight Oil's songs. Take the message away and we a left with such precious much.

  • and this goes out to BP aswell... British Pollution...

  • it would be nice to see the whole concert again,

  • this is how you know a band is good. a randomly organized concert in the middle of new york and people and people arent just walking by but stopping to watch/listen. and i reckon most us people wouldnt know who midnight oil was, especially back then. more aussie bands should try this sort off stuff

  • Passaram se vários anos...mas toda vez que eu ouço esta música fico arrepiado, pois, ela continua muito atual...

  • what happened ?????? you have become what you most hate

  • It's to me one of the best impromptu live performances I know. They arrived outside the Exxon Building on a flat-top truck with all their gear and just did it.. Permit or not, the NY cops dug it too.

  • I still don't buy anything from Exxon to this day and never will.

  • Pete G was pretty crook when he sang this one...you can hearit in his voice...

  • Nach über 20 Jahren leider aktueller als je zuvor.

Wie laut muss man es denn noch hinausschreien, bis irgendjemand handelt .....

  • This kind of music comes once in a generation. America: We've been carried along.

  • Definitely with very strong message, love it & real superb musicians on the higher degree!!!

  • AWESOME! (:

  • One of the best live performaces for me. The fact that they rolled-up there on a Flat-top truck and did it all with the mixers is a credit to the band. And look at the New Yorkers. They know talent when they see it!

  • We're all shareholders now!

  • besides the fact that he dances like a worm, they are GREAT!

  • RYAN ARMSTRONG IN MELBOURNE VICTORIA LOVES THIS SONG :)

  • BP 6 months ago, Peter always did the right thing.

  • BP 6 months ago

  • CONS CI~ENCIA ERRADO DE PROPÓSITTO ENTENDE.... OU JAMAIS ENTENDERÁ; SÓ É TEU AQUILO QUE TE PERTENCE. ASSIM É O VERDADEIRO CONHECIMENTO???????????????????????

  • thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of art...

  • INTENSE !!!!

Where did you get this...thanks for sharing...

    brings back good memorys...

    Frankie

  • Sadly, this song after almost 20 years remains more relevant today. The Oils gave the most intense live concert performance in all my experience.

  • Where are bands like this now?

  • great perfomance of a great band from Australia...

  • wouahh

  • money rules the fuking world, that proved it, and now another disaster ffsss

  • ist echt ne scheiße was die aus unserer Erde machen.

Das schlimmste das die überleben die auch das verursacht haben weil sie Geld damit veriend haben.

    Die werden noch belohnt dafür,

    schlachten wir sie !!!!!!!!

  • This video needs to come back around! It holds true! Boycott bp, or at least do something! Because it'll never end! Their greed knows no limits!

  • malheureusement un clip d'actualité !

  • We still have not learned from our mistakes. We should've stopped using crude oil a long time ago.

  • Its time for BP to get their asses kicked, come on Peter how about getting the Oils over to BP HQ?

I remember the sign from this show "Midnight Oil make you dance Exxon make you sick."

  • cette chanson sera, malheureusement, toujours d'actualité!!

  • hammer ding wär gern dabei gewesen

  • 20 years later and we still don't get it.... :-/

  • pete garret help my gulf of the mexico its terrible

  • Still actual, silly world. Great band.

  • Deja Vu all over again. BP, Halliburton.....fuck em all

  • Where are you Peter? Sad enough that today this song is more actual than ever was, oil is gushing in the ocean, we poison the sky and the see.

  • @ankh523 We as the human race should be outraged. Our lives are being taken away from us.

  • @Templehatchet and still we can say fair enough

  • Amen -Peter put everything in perspective. Bono is good but he did not do what peter did especially going away to work for change!!

  • banda foda,vocal foda,letra foda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Midnight Oil é du caralhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

  • Great song, great band, pertinent message...saw them live at the Surfair in Mudjimba circa 1982...nothings changed in 2 decades...Exxon, chevron, marathon BP, Shell, Halliburton...the list of the profit mongers goes on and on and on and on......

  • Dust in my hands,in my soul....the world is not the same!

I'll never see again flowers in my window...........

  • Is there such thing as a political band anymore. This lead singer is now a patsy for mainstream aussie politics,. short memory must have a short memory. btw he is suprisingly very religious and what americans would call pro life. great songs though. sellout

  • @dazzabrit You're a complete wanker to use a British term . :-) Well done.

  • Think there's any chance these days for a "political band" to play a song like this in front of the Exxon building?

  • Haha, the Singer fckin reminds of Maynard Keenan

  • the singer is 20 years older than Maynard Keenan or whatever

  • I think Pete makes a far better musician than a pollie!

  • COOL , SN.

  • Excellent !!

  • Is there anymore of this concert online? I'm always amazed not only how damn great this band was live but how, not the Clash, not U2, not Bruce, stood out in front of an entity like Exxon and played their stuff. I've seen the entire show once and this is the first time since. What powerful songwriting, great musicianship, and singing.

Now I want a riot of me own!

  • I am about to riot every day now, and I am a fan of this band since I have heard them first. You might also like their song called tone poem. The best live show I have ever seen.

  • @cabronte AMEN!!!So revelant now!! Have the greatest respect for Midnight Oil and this concert!!Let another band do what they did for a lot of causes!!

  • @cabronte google videos black rain falls

  • @cabronte Yeah ..they have a DVD called: "20,000 Watt RSL' you should be able to buy it though Amazon. Great Value. But you have to play it LOUD! ;-)

  • @RowieOutthere That's a CD. I'm looking at several online descriptions. But thanks for the heads up anyway.

  • @cabronte Hey ...yeah also on DVD with all the videos and clips.

  • @cabronte Hey, They have a DVD called '20 Thousand Watt RSL. it has all their good stuff on there. You might pick it up a Amazon or someting like that. Get it and play it LOUD!!! Peace.

  • @cabronte There is a Midnight Oil DVD called '20,000 Watt RSL' containing this and all their gems. I'm sure you'll find it somewhere in here (the web)! ...to me this is one of the best live performances ever. After the Exxon Valdez disaster, they just arrived on a flat-top truck and made the statement t! Pure magic. Never tire of it! I think the NY cops dug it to!

  • Garrett's a great man. A greater man than I'll ever be - typing away at a keyboard.

  • Peter Garrett made a lot more sense singing, than he does being Bob Brown's office bitch

  • You cannot change things by yelling from the sidelines. Prime Minister of Australia, Peter Garrett, will be a reality one day. The Labor Party of Australia is a tough gig, but Peter Garrett will never give up. And he, and the Oils, will always be on song.

  • Well dunno what you talk but I hope the Liberal Party will win the next time, Labour is too lame on immigration.

  • Je ne suis pas musicien, mais l'intro me file des frissons, longue vie à pete et ses amis.

  • Was there at the Exxon building for this show !

    It was Awesome !

    Thanks for posting...

    Nicley Done !

  • Kgv1. Great to see you aknowleadge the shit that goin on. i dig garrett heaps. I think its better to have someone like him in parliment than shit eating vote grabing turds, his hands are somewhat tied but he WILL make a difference!!!

  • he hasnt changed just gone on to better things

  • How Peter Garrett has changed...........

  • Buen tema ,buen sonido y gran banda Midnight Oil.....yeaaa........anthony un trago.

  • Voila de quoi me retendre les nerfs !

  • This song and video is without doubt the biggest statement I have ever watched and listened to at the same time...

Well done M.O. you are waking sleeping souls right up to this present day-amazing, thank you for the awareness!!!

  • just superb,fatastic song

  • I had almost forgot about Midnight Oil--they are truly great--with great messages.

  • god bless Bon Scott .But i'de like to say burn the midnight oil most underrated band they fucking rock

  • makes me wanna' cry,........

  • great song from one of the greatest bands. Best conjunction of political compromise and artistic quality!

  • this is a wake up call to all and that means u

  • I love the environment and sea. However think... we ratify Kyoto, introduce carbon credits, effectively destoy major Australian manufacturing, who commit to being as environmentally friendly as possible, where does substitiute product come from? Namely Steel and Aluminium. China and Indonesia of course, who not give a flying fuck about Kyoto or Carbon Emissions..We are not solving any problems, rather destroying our economy and shifting already out of control problem focus needs to change!

  • because of course, the economy is more important than clean air and water....

  • yo, with no economy, you wouldn't have a computer or youtube. Changing energy habits on a national scale is important, but will take time to do in a way that won't leave everyone penniless. In the interim, we should all be making efforts on the grassroots level, by recycling, consuming fewer low quality/disposable products, reducing our energy use, and voicing our support to Congress. It's much more difficult, but much more effective, than a one-line youtube post.

  • clean air and water and the economy are all great. The problem is endless population growth. It is easy to fix. Just have 2 or less children.

  • wich means cutting off the balls of thousands of poor people

  • Esse video é show

  • That's but one of the reasons why products from those countries should be heavily taxed or bloody well right out boycotted..

  • "market failure"

  • We are better off with people like him in parliment, Sure he wrote music, but his influence is underrated as a polly! Go green. Keep battling Pete! once green always green. Peace and love to all. What a beautiful earth we live on!! the glass HAS to be half full

  • One of my favorite bands. Excellent musicians who are terribly underrated. One of the best live acts as well. They remind me of The Who as far as the energy on stage. Would love to see them again damn it! I try to turn everyone I can on to them. Absolutely love them.

  • Just shows it is easier to be on the outside, being an "activist" rather than being on the inside trying to govern. I think President Obama is learning that the hard way along with Mr. Garrett.

  • Today marks 20 years since the Valdez oil spill, which led to this performance among other things

  • i think garrett can achieve more being frontman in midnight oil, writing unmistaken lyrics than being forced to compromise and therefore losing all the credits he deserves

  • my exact thoughts "i think garrett can achieve more being frontman in midnight oil, writing unmistaken lyrics than being forced to compromise and therefore losing all the credits he deserves"

  • yeah...now...what's he doing about the 250 million tons of cude sitting on QLD beaches at the moment ??

I guess he better throw a concert huh? Garrett lost my respect a while ago. Great muso and activist...he sucks as a minister though. He's too conflicted now.

  • no mate you heard wrong, hes doing the nobby thing,he aint coming back

  • Saw them Live in Canberra last night, they were just amazing, 2 encores!!! Check their website. Two concerts in Canberra, "Up close in the capital"

  • I heard they are back with a concert in Aussie!

  • This song has a great meaning and is beautiful. With the Vocals and the melodies, it is just an all around great song. Especially live like this.

  • NY crowd: "Was that in English???"

  • Shame that his sold out on us.... authorising pulp mills, proposing legal whaling, raiding anti whalers... whats will you do next garret?

    Bring back the old Garret!

    Great vid,

    Fred

  • Good song and weird cool voice!

  • bloody awesome song

  • OZZ...don't go down the path the socialist Bush and the UBER-Marxist OBAMA have taken once free and strong America. Hey American sheep...you will never miss FREEDOM until it's gone. Obama '08

  • moxxx53, the poor grammer in your statement makes it hard to determine your stance on this issue, but i have to assume you're anti-socialist. we've had public healthcare down here since i was born, and aside from an occasional wait due to government red tape, it works just fine. a bit of socialism never hurt anyone. much better than your citizens getting crushed by unpayable doctor bills.

  • WHAt a intro! love it:)

Stop work ! This is dangerous for humanity and there's no matter to have ridiculous and vain luxe ! Remember the light on the hill and spell with good intentions.

  • And give us that fact the nature back? -.-

  • I love this version, when all the "suits & ties" come out to watch!

  • Wow, that's terrible! How dare they? Heheheh...

  • azndude001 pissoff u spammer SOB.

  • Coal Emmisions, Oil in the Ocean, The Byo-Systems Compromise only for Business-Thanks Many Thanks GREAT MIDTNIGHT OIL; For Your Great Defense At Human Rights!

  • 6.8 BILLION Humans jammed on this Earth. God, I love Midnight Oil, but the Oils are from the last wide open space on Earth, with the frigid exception of Antartica and Siberia.

23 Million people on 3 million Sq. Miles of Continent. Peter, save Australia...the last hope for mankind. Protect that jewel. Watch your borders...watch your culture....channel your passion....and, please, let me in.

    Thank You,

    A Sad American

  • Interesting about the amount of Americans moving here Downunder now.

  • I love Midnight Oil... but what a bunch of sheep they lead

  • I am all for PG bashing if it were appropriate. He ran and succeeded in government with real power to change and in less than a year we have had more change in than we have had in decades.

Look at the new environmental policy under PG, a world leading initiative. You have to have jobs and paper, I don't like the pulp mill particularly, but I do use paper and under the new legislation they will be charged for CO2 emissions AND for every tree they cut down to make it.

    Not just great music!

  • He's so passionate!

  • Short Memory Mr.Garrett.What ever have you been thinking?

  • the pulp mill in Tasmania is a disgrace. Thank GOD our bloody premier resigned. && Yes, whatabout the environment, Mr. Garrett?

  • oh stop bitching we got a de sal plant and a nuclear reactor. bloody Tasmanians

  • Why is the pulp mill bad, it is being built just across the river from me, and I hope to get a job there, just because you are already wealthy, dont have to find a job, doesnt mean you should stuff it up for us younger ones. Do you want all the young people from Tassie to leave for the mainland because there are no high paying jobs in the state?

  • Peter always made me think of a guy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. With his stage show he could have come from a psycho hospital...!

  • I always liked them for their sound, their melodies, through all of their career. This song especially for the intro, amazing guitar, scratchy, edgy, rough....one of the reason I decided to play guitar many years ago. brings back to this time of bright melodic guitars like in the Bunnymen, Smiths...Peter was a crazy showman/singer. RATM before RATM lyrically speaking.

  • This video never fails to give me chills. The first time i saw it I wept. I remember the Exon Valdez and the tragedy that one incompetent, drunken captain on a single-hulled ship caused.

There will never be another band like Midnight Oil.

  • Yeah, great concert in front of Exxon - I'll always love Midnight Oil.

Peter seems to be compromising a bit as an Labour Minister, but still better he than anything the bLiberals have ever offered.

  • I love the political point made here in front of Exxon offices!

Peter Garret is now Environment Minister of Australia. Unfortunately he is allowing the dredging of Melbourne's bay, and the permission for a new Pulp Mill in Tasmania!

    What about the environment, Peter?

  • J'ai découvert Midnigt oil lorsque j'avais 15 ans et passé mes soirée à traduire leurs textes, j'en suis toujours accros aujourd'hui... Et en accord parfait...

  • in front Exxon building.Good point!!!

  • I vividly remember when I saw Midnight Oil in concert here in the Alps in Switzerland (Leysin Rock Festival), the gig was so powerful. This song is one of my favorite of MO, the first time I've heard it, I thought to myself... "this IS the band" ! I admire Peter Garrett as a man and whish him the best in his political duties.

  • best band out

    Ausssssie reppinnn :D

peter Garret is a legend, and still is

    so please haters

    shut your C*unts

    :D

  • Why does he keep doing those wierd inapropriate movements.

  • i think he was practising for when he got back to oz to see his girlfriend he must be sex starved

  • That was neat.

  • Thank you Peter Garrett, youve just confirmed in my mind that you have become a horses arse puppet, after loving your music for as long as I can remember, you now go and allow Port Philip Bay to be dredged.

    Cheers-brother

p.s. what have the rest of the band have to say about this?

The river runs red- your blood has run black

  • What do you suppose happened? How do people lose their will to FIGHT for what they are passionate about?

  • he has not lost the fight - u need to accept the vagrancies of politics.
