This is too beautiful not to be famous. Maybe someone like Michael Buble could do a cover and make it famous, but I can't imagine anyone else singing it this beautifully but Don.
@vinstyles Yes...beautiful isn't it? I haven't heard this song in over 20 years, since I was a big fan..."I had always hoped this boat could carry two..."
my vinyl track also has the same crackles on this particular song ( thought it was from the too many times I played it) This one is hauntingly beautiful, heartbreakingly close to the core. It sends a chill down the spine each time I hear it. The string arrangements are so mournful and tell you not everything in life is sunshine and light. Brillliant, this man is a genius
Love the addition of the lyrics. The crackle and pops are very nostalgic as that is how I heard this song for decades. But I gotta say, the clean CD version is less distracting and the purity of the music is the sole focus, that is only my opinion. This is your upload and you can present it anyway you like. Cheers and thanks for uploading.
Gosh how I love this song. I don't think I've found it electronically, I suppose I could dub it from my old LP, but I don't think the turntable is even connected these days.... How strange. Listening the 3rd verse comes back to me, and I'd rather forgotten it, or even that it was the genesis/inspiration in part for one of my own songs. Thanks for posting. I need to look for "The Statue" and "Chain Lightning" and "Jerursalem"
His 3rd album is one of the best introspective albums ever! What a shame it was so badly accepted, and not understood/appreciated. This doomed Don popularity and I wonder if it also encouraged his for later drastic change of genre. =(
@KeathGrahamIve wore out many copies of this album , its a lifes guiding tool to me , too profound for "the Many" . . . but carefully written for "the Few", . . . .yes its true , its honest , . . . its Don Mclean , . . .
This is also my favorite song. I am so happy it is at Youtube, at last i may say. To me it is about the tragic in general that people lose eachother in live, without real reason..
Great great song. Have loved it for 40 years.

My favorite male vocalist and my favorite song, this is a wonderful tribute to the grief for any one of us who has lost a lover. Thank you.
