@zorpian Dutch is obviously closer to english than german, but personaly i don't find german that hard. Declension as well as the syntax may be hard at the beginnin indeed... but on the whole german is quite a cool language, very pictural !! There are certainly better examples but for instance: pillow is Kopfkissen: so the thing which kiss your head. TV is Fernseher: what you watch distantly etc...

It takes a really long time to learn how to say the G and the R. I have ben practicing for it in about 5 mondts, and I think I say them well. So to all you out there how think this is very difficult, do a lot of practicing, and you learn :D

@harborhopper go for mate...once you get the basics the rest will fall into place.. I lived there for two years and still go regularly to Belgium and Holland and it just comes back to me...although I don't speak it like native....you could start by searching you tube for dutch kids tv shows... sesam straat ..klok huis etc...that's very simple dutch...and a good place to hear the proper pronunciation..good luck

@colinclarke1000 Why would you want to speak English? It is a horrible language. It never follows it's own rules, it's never pronounced the way it says it should be (how does "who" say "hoo"?) You can't put deeper meaning behind the words. Each word means it's own thing. It has no flow, and a very choppy rhythm with each word fighting for your attention. It moves up and down randomly, it doesn't place gender specific nouns...need I go on? I speak only because I was born with it.
