I think you could even buy his album at the guitar stores. I know I bought the tab book and the album had just hit.

he(like many other pros out there) knows what(in his mind) is best for the song.

sometimes complexities can ruin the song. satch is great at emphasising a particular feeling of a song, or a certain section of a song. sometimes to to get that sound or groove it requires doing something completely unorthodox or technical but in sum cases it isnt neccessary. besides for a beginner to watch that would completely change their perspective of guitar playing.

I remember learning this from the tab but it suggested to tie a rubber band or sock around the first fret to dampen the strings so they dont ring open while tapping. but i noticed that satch didnt have anything like that. I wonder if it sounds differently when you play it on a guitar with a locking nut

well its very suggestive you should tie a rubber band. i have a floyd rose and locks don't do anything. When you tap, your getting both ends of the guitar to ring, but if u mute one side, you only get the real piece. my friend has this guitar he's using signed by him and it is pretty weird. I cant figure it out but it can shred and make nice noises and it doesn't need a rubber band

parts of it are certainly tough, but it's more of the talent of being able to write a composition such as this than being able to "shred". The thing I like about Satriani is that he plays with a ton of emotion, and he isn't alive to just show you how fast he can sweep. Same goes for Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, and even Vai has learned to balance it out. Luckily, Joe's very melodic, there's plenty of players out there that put speed in their top priorities. Satch is fortunately not one of them...
