oh ya! Barbershop at its best....they deserved the title at this Festival...Choir of the World. And they still are perfection...won the Barbershop International Contest in 2010.....God I wish I was 20 again....I'd swoon for sure.
Nailed the barbershop style. Aside from that the ensemble was just awesome. Natural and effortless come to mind. Hardly a contrived or weird visual or vocal affectation that often comes from lessor groups from this style. Some virtuoso control of phrasing and vocal AND visual energy. The best yet.
COMALite, I'm sorry to say that's not entirely true. A: Masters of Harmony have lost twice. The years escape me, but it was once to VM and once to another chorus. Also, Westminster chorus was formed back when the Masters of Harmony were nearly twice as big, meaning that they couldn't fit everyone properly on the stage and risers at the international contest. I believe it was also once tradition that the westminster chorus was only age 25 and under from the Masters. they're mostly the y members.
@Icyveins906 are you sure? im pretty sure COMALiteJ is right. their site says 7 consecutive wins. i dont think VM and MoH have ever gone head to head, but you never know with them W boys...
yes, COMALiteJ was right--they placed 4th in their first competition in 1989 when the Alexandria Harmonizers won, and they have placed first in all of their appearances since. and Icyveins, obviously Westminster wasn't founded because MoH had too many people--its purpose was to bring together young male singers who wanted to sing with others their own age.
They're from the Los Angeles area. Most of them are also members of the Masters of Harmony (also of Los Angeles), which has never lost a Barbershop International contest since they won their first one.
They also count among their membership the four members of the contest-winning Quartet, OC Times (look for clips of them here on YouTube).
They rehearse in Westminster, CA — thus their name.
9:55, fucking stunning . . . the most AMAZING part of it is the way the effect is done. the volume seems to be perfectly controlled by justin's hands. Its as if the power were coming FROM his hands. Godly.
Amazing singing! Goodbye, Dixie, Goodbye is my favorite of the three. Although, the chord at 05:30 (during Their Hearts Were Full of Spring) was powerful.
