I've been riding 12 years, and just spent a week on one of these in the twisties in the mountains all around San Jose, California. I was trading with buddies all week for a Ducati 696 Monster, and a ZX-6 Monster energy edition. I'll be honest, this beast out handled both of them in the corners... eaiser to lay down, hang off of, better grip, smoother throttle response. It's not the most nimble thing on the planet, but at this size, it is SHOCKINGLY fast. i couldn't believe it.
been away from bikes for 10 yrs now and so miss my 748 duke.
Hope fully a little wiser with age now and really fancy getting a k1300s but just unsure with all that weight how manageable it would be.Also never had a shaft drive, would appreciate your views.
They feel surprisingly light because the engine's inclined so far forward that it lowers the centre of gravity. I have both a K1300S and a Ductati Multistrada 1100S, and I used to love the multi as I had it first, but the beemer is just so smooth, powerful, and incredibly high quality by comparison.
looks a bit jerky. i have built mechanical quickshift,smoother/faster than that, but on a trailbike/enduro racer.

How's the downshifting?

Downshifting is normal. It's not F1 yet. But the upshift is amazing and you don't have to keep the revs up to make it happen either.
